I like the conversation between 8:00 and 9:00. I was wondering how the WBC understands scriptures that say if you break part of the law, you break the whole law and that there is no one righteous who seeks God. If you believe strictly in God punishes the lawbreaker but not the one who follows the law without any message of grace, then everyone ends up in hell. We all sometimes do good and sometimes do bad.
Wow, I feel SO sorry for those kids. They may just be another "Heaven's Gate" "Jim Jones" kind of thing. Which in the case of Shirley, I've got a spare pistol for ya, but all those little kids?! It seems, as an American, that the government can tell me how to make love, pray, relax, and protest (not to mention what my GF does with her vagina) but they can't do anything about this? I'm completely disgusted. They're very selective about how they keep the government out of my life! Just sayin'.
the world is supposed to end, i believe, according to phelps. either that, or there's a suggestion of a cult mass suicide. (that's my guess. they seem to have very little conscious control).
@natas809 you'd think they would, or at least for what is readily seen, such as their running with an angry mob wanting to cause them harm is knowingly putting the children at risk of harm. That should be good to charge for some sort of abuse or neglect.
@natas809 I don't think they beat their kids in the WBC these days. At least not to the extent that was described here.
You have to remember that he is talking about the 70s and 80s here. Back then it was perfectly acceptable to beat the living shit out of your kids and the state could do nothing about it unless you beat them into a fucking coma.
@paulpizzey1973 i wouldn't say that believing in God is necessarily a bad thing. yes there are those freaks that start wars and hostile relations over the topic of religion, but most of people use the concept of "God" as good thing in their lives. I think that everyone needs 3 things in life: something to love, something to work at, and something to believe in. anything can fit these categories, and it doesn't have to be God, but some people do. By the way, I'm a christian and I'm not insane.
Oh geez what a cult! Any *real* Christian knows that no one knows a specific time that Jesus will return. It says in the Bible that even Jesus *himself* doesn't know the time the Father will have him return. Therefore, Fred Phelps, Harold Camping, and any of them that say that the world will end at so and so a time is full of baloney and ain't worth the time of day.
@kubrox91 So what you are saying is this...only "original" christians are true christians. The rest pick and choose.
OK i'll go along with that. The bible has beed changed and edited so much since then that modern day believers probably have no idea what was originally said.
This man is very intelligent, along with brave, for going through what he did and coming out with such an understanding of the world and the individuals of the WBC. He makes some very good points.
1-the phelps klan are legit plus are being used by a faction from the mystery schools to help usher in one of the multiple splines constructing the nwo ..ex: one doctrine or death type thing 2- for this ex phelp member to have this rational from his past as excusing his newly defined confusion..not adding up reasoning of existance of God is bogus & still he is bonded by the "without excuse" rule once judgement is upon him.:= regardless of how evil his dad was from any age-no excuse he knows this
I have no doubt whatsover that when Fred Phelps dies (or any Phelps for that matter) that good, decent people will picket the funeral and give the Phelp's a taste of their own medicine.
I was raised like this. Not this extream but i went to church for 15 of years of my life. N im gay :) There views are hippocritical and wrong. if there isnt a hell or heaven then HA serves em right i honestly hoope there is so when they die the get judge by the TRUE god. Shirley had a child out of wedlock, lol. What a whore!
"Shirley had a child out of wedlock, lol. What a whore!"
That's kind of uncalled for, and to be honest a bit reflective of your username. Remember that the stigma of "having a child out of wedlock" comes exclusively from religion; no physical change or anything meaningful arises from the ceremony of getting married and having a child before or after the ceremony is the same process.
That said, I feel very sorry for that child that has to be brought up in that environment.
@maynrdjkeenan Yeah, it was uncalled for because i'm stooping to their level of judging. My username isn't relevant to the topic, but then it again it represents everything that Shirley is or does. Also, it's uncalled for her to protest the soldiers funeral, but we live in a violent society, so we must face the facts.
@maynrdjkeenan It's not uncalled for at all. Shirley wants to paint herself and her church as the only righteous people, according to her religion, but because of that, she isn't, and she deserves to get called on it.
@TheJkuy Well they know who there going to have to answer too in the end and if they dont commit suicide we can just laugh at them like we did at Harold Camping.
I'm agnostic myself, and I'm certainly NOT a fan of Fred, but at least one of his kids (That I know of so far) turned out.... pretty well. He has sympathy for people. He's smart. And very sensible.. :] RESPECT!! :D
its interesting how nate was brought up in the most harsh of religious environments and now he's literally one of the most sensible individuals i've ever heard talk about religion.
From what I've seen the WBC has always been careful not to make statements that can be directly falsified. It's v hard to demonstrate a statement like "God caused the tsunami in Japan" (for eg.) to be false. It's surprising then that Shirley has pitched the return of christ as happening on exact date...(mind you she denies she said any such thing)
@xXGriff25Xx That's interesting, I've heard May 21, 2012 from other people. Oh dear, when they wake up on May 22, they are going to be real disappointed.

God bless this guy for standing up to his family's cult. Same goes to that one girl Lauren who left as well. I believe the two of them have earned forgiveness, and I personally would love to see the looks on the rest of their family's faces when they burn in Hell.
as far as the WBC believing in the whole 2012 conspiracy i don't believe that, i don't get any ungodly impression from that church, to think they believe in the 2012 mess is beyond my thoughts. i have never once heard them speak of anything like that, and iam going to start digging really hard on that comment he just made. if i ever heard them speak of such disturbing things, i would totally not support them any longer. hence, i support them because they are on scripture, from what i'v seen.
@BaptistGiirl --- This group is def. not Christian. They pick and choose what they want to believe about God. They totally ignore the Grace aspect of God & Jesus Christ. God tells us not to judge others and they make a sport out of it. Love the sinner and not the sin. I am not angry at these crazy people anymore like I was when I 1st met/heard about them, I just feel sorry for them. I pray that God finds a way to reach them before it is to late. but this is a hate group nothing more.
@icequeenspooky if you think i will believe for a second, that the WBC are a hate group, you are looking at the wrong person. iam a firm believer in the true gospel, and i know that the bible speaks highly about loving your neighbor, so much so, that you will be willing to tell them the true word of god. for if we do not protest, and tell the true gospel, you must then hate your brother or sister? if in fact they aren't willing to listen, then you have done your part, but pickets can be holy.
@BaptistGiirl I tell of the gospel everyday in my life. I tell what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross, the diffrence is I do it with love. Jesus was about love and compassion. There is nothing compassionate about this "church." BUT I will not sit here and argue with you.
I will Pray for your soul too. I pray that God will reach your heart and show you more love and compassion than you show, if you truly believe this group.
@BaptistGiirl i am offended by the existence of a human so insanely stupid, bigoted, and irrational as yourself. Do you realize how sexist the bible is? are you willing to give away your suffrage? how about your right to be considered a "person" under the law? if not, then how the hell does it make sense for you to protest the rights of others?
@icequeenspooky ALL christian pick and choose what to believe from their book. WBC pick out all of the bad shit, and "good" christian pick and choose the good stuff. By your own admission it's all in there. Even if there were a god, he's not worthy of praise. He's morally bankrupt like these WBC idiots. "Good" christians get their morals from empathy, not the bible. The quicker they learn that we have no need for a god, the better for all of us, except the WBC.
@paulpizzey1973 well, original christians were following a doctrine created by Christ, so they were not picking and choosing. it's not like 500 years after they encountered Christ they said we're gonna start this belief in whole and we'll pick events from the already published bible to base it all off of.
lol no there is no bad the old testiment things were handled diffrently and god changed it to new covenant for a diffrent way and diffrent people the phelps are following verses not ment for them or this time there is only the new testiment now and there is no bad verses in it to do any wrong to others only forgiveness and love you pick and choose the christians you llisten to to bash the ones doing right, just because you dont understand you hate @paulpizzey1973
Remember this is the man's family. I'm sure Nate's experienced enough violence without comments pointing at death threats to his family. Westboro has already shown us hate is not the cure.
MAYBE they're all planning to kill themselves like a cult THINK ABOUT IF THEY ARENT DISBANDED FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE YOU WILL HEAR OF THIS THEY WILL SYMBOLIZE OUR GENERATION
I HOPE that one day people could be a little more sensitive to understanding the dynamics of abuse. It would be a tragedy if the legacy of this sick man's abuse lead to the suicide of the people he held in violent bondage for so long. I think a better resolution would be an enlightenment and rebellion and dissolution of this "church." These people may be hateful but they are suffering terrible because of Fred's violent and abusive tendencies.
we all must remember, fred phelps represents God the wrong & perverted way. he will be very much accounted to God on the way he represented him on judgment day. the Bible says God is Holy. God does everything in truth & holiness. God's ways are not our ways. as it says in the book of isiah. anyway, since Jesus is God did jesus act like fred phelps while he was on this earth? a big NO!!!!!!
I really hope that they all commit suicide on that date. They need to do the world a favor. It would be sad to think about the babies and kids that they would force this upon but in a way, it would be better for them.
I feel so sorry for the rest of the Phelps family, that they don't have the courage to escape like Nathan did. And I am getting as far away from Kansas as I can during their so called "rapture."
'Cult suicide'? was this journalist not listening...it's the rapture Nate's talking about, the WBC think they'll be whisked off to heaven whilst everyone else dies horribly. Somebody should put some lithium in their drinking water.
Wonderful human being. Completely refreshing after seeing a WBC video. I couldn't agree more with this man... If the God that WBC believes were real, no one would any part in it.
Great interview. I had not heard that they had set a specific date for their rapture, although they have certainly emphasized in nearly every TV interview that time is growing short.
So now we have one group of these whack jobs, the Harold Camping cult, who set the date in May 2011 and the Phelps clan putting their chips on July 2012. This isn't going to be pretty.
please please tell me....when did the bible says that july 21 2012....will be the start of tribulation. please because i sure as HELL never heard that B.S. in my life. all i have heard was the mayans and nostradamis. but never did the bible say 2012 was going to be the end. plus thats 8 days before my birthday and i hope i get somthing good for my 17th birthday. =]
This whole 2012 prediction is just another Y2K bullshit, nonsense. Only thing is gonna happen is the Mayan calendar will end. Actually the correct date for this ridiculous prediction is suppose to happen on December 21, 2012. There won't be an apocalyptic event in 2012 whatsoever. People just love to make these ridiculous, absurd, and preposterous predictions, predicting the end of time and I find it ridiculous. We should be thinking of building a brighter future for ourselves.
Damn, Dave good interview! You're the only interviewer who asks the right questions of/about WBC. Other interviewers just use the "interview" as a forum for their phony outrage.
i KNEW it it is a cult fred beat them and kept them under control but still they have no excuse non of them! my father was a white-supremacist and a homophob he was just as bad as fred and imperfectly okay
a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
The first one is the most common one, I think, and he didn't agree with it. Also, atheism is just the opposite of theism (believing in a god), and since he doesn't seem to believe in a specific god you could just as well call him an atheist. We shouldn't force labels on people though.
@Nomiss9 The thing is that agnostic has a range and its anywhere from over 0% to 99.99999999% because at 100% you have theist and i was an agnostic at one point i was a high up agnostic that was somewhere in the 80% and what that means is there is a good chance there is a god but still might not be and now i am an athiest because my number of agnostic kept getting lower and i would say i have only been atheist for about a year now
@Nomiss9 I consider myself the second type of agnostic. A lot of my best friends are Christians, but most of my skepticism comes from religious psychos like Fred Phelps. I haven't completely turned away from God, but I'm just not sure which side of God is real, the loving side I see in my friends or the dark and evil side I see in people like Fred.
Why? Shirley is incredibly intelligent. Thoroughly indoctrinated and lacking any form of empathy, but incredibly intelligent. Most of the Phelps family is very smart. Especially Fred.
Just because they're wrong, doesn't mean they're dumb.
@colourfulwithaU i don't agree. i believe that ignorance is dumb, and if there's any word that can describe the WBC, it's ignorant... or maybe evil. lol
of course he doesnt know what god is,,,he has been brainwashed into something different,,,,hell

as far as the WBC believing in the whole 2012 conspiracy i don't believe that, i don't get any ungodly impression from that church, to think they believe in the 2012 mess is beyond my thoughts. i have never once heard them speak of anything like that, and iam going to start digging really hard on that comment he just made. if i ever heard them speak of such disturbing things, i would totally not support them any longer. hence, i support them because they are on scripture, from what i'v seen.
BaptistGiirl 11 months ago
@BaptistGiirl --- This group is def. not Christian. They pick and choose what they want to believe about God. They totally ignore the Grace aspect of God & Jesus Christ. God tells us not to judge others and they make a sport out of it. Love the sinner and not the sin. I am not angry at these crazy people anymore like I was when I 1st met/heard about them, I just feel sorry for them. I pray that God finds a way to reach them before it is to late. but this is a hate group nothing more.
icequeenspooky 11 months ago
@icequeenspooky if you think i will believe for a second, that the WBC are a hate group, you are looking at the wrong person. iam a firm believer in the true gospel, and i know that the bible speaks highly about loving your neighbor, so much so, that you will be willing to tell them the true word of god. for if we do not protest, and tell the true gospel, you must then hate your brother or sister? if in fact they aren't willing to listen, then you have done your part, but pickets can be holy.
BaptistGiirl 11 months ago
@BaptistGiirl I tell of the gospel everyday in my life. I tell what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross, the diffrence is I do it with love. Jesus was about love and compassion. There is nothing compassionate about this "church." BUT I will not sit here and argue with you.
James 3:17
2 tim 2:23-24
I will Pray for your soul too. I pray that God will reach your heart and show you more love and compassion than you show, if you truly believe this group.

icequeenspooky 11 months ago
@BaptistGiirl i am offended by the existence of a human so insanely stupid, bigoted, and irrational as yourself. Do you realize how sexist the bible is? are you willing to give away your suffrage? how about your right to be considered a "person" under the law? if not, then how the hell does it make sense for you to protest the rights of others?
awesomemaster1906 11 months ago
@icequeenspooky ALL christian pick and choose what to believe from their book. WBC pick out all of the bad shit, and "good" christian pick and choose the good stuff. By your own admission it's all in there. Even if there were a god, he's not worthy of praise. He's morally bankrupt like these WBC idiots. "Good" christians get their morals from empathy, not the bible. The quicker they learn that we have no need for a god, the better for all of us, except the WBC.
paulpizzey1973 11 months ago 12
@paulpizzey1973 well, original christians were following a doctrine created by Christ, so they were not picking and choosing. it's not like 500 years after they encountered Christ they said we're gonna start this belief in whole and we'll pick events from the already published bible to base it all off of.
kubrox91 4 months ago
lol no there is no bad the old testiment things were handled diffrently and god changed it to new covenant for a diffrent way and diffrent people the phelps are following verses not ment for them or this time there is only the new testiment now and there is no bad verses in it to do any wrong to others only forgiveness and love you pick and choose the christians you llisten to to bash the ones doing right, just because you dont understand you hate @paulpizzey1973

Remember this is the man's family. I'm sure Nate's experienced enough violence without comments pointing at death threats to his family. Westboro has already shown us hate is not the cure.

6142 1 year ago 29
@6142

@6142 I wouldn't put it past them. There a pretty strange group.

we all must remember, fred phelps represents God the wrong & perverted way. he will be very much accounted to God on the way he represented him on judgment day. the Bible says God is Holy. God does everything in truth & holiness. God's ways are not our ways. as it says in the book of isiah. anyway, since Jesus is God did jesus act like fred phelps while he was on this earth? a big NO!!!!!!

It's good to see that the Christians who are focused on the Family show their good, Christian family values. Praise the Lord!!!

I really hope that they all commit suicide on that date. They need to do the world a favor. It would be sad to think about the babies and kids that they would force this upon but in a way, it would be better for them.

Wonderful human being. Completely refreshing after seeing a WBC video. I couldn't agree more with this man... If the God that WBC believes were real, no one would any part in it.
knivesandpeppers 1 year ago

72metallicafan 1 year ago
@72metallicafan
We should be thinking of building a brighter future for ourselves.

agnostic doesnt mean unsure it means anywhere from unsure to most likely a god so i think he is agnostic
kazooga1234 1 year ago
@kazooga1234 This is the definition I found:
Nomiss9 1 year ago
@Nomiss9 The thing is that agnostic has a range and its anywhere from over 0% to 99.99999999% because at 100% you have theist and i was an agnostic at one point i was a high up agnostic that was somewhere in the 80% and what that means is there is a good chance there is a god but still might not be and now i am an athiest because my number of agnostic kept getting lower and i would say i have only been atheist for about a year now
kazooga1234 1 year ago
@Nomiss9 I consider myself the second type of agnostic. A lot of my best friends are Christians, but most of my skepticism comes from religious psychos like Fred Phelps. I haven't completely turned away from God, but I'm just not sure which side of God is real, the loving side I see in my friends or the dark and evil side I see in people like Fred.

Just because they're wrong, doesn't mean they're dumb.
