Do you know which version was better? I know that Saturn games were almost always better at 2D, but I've heard that in this case, the PS1 version actually didn't suffer from the slowdown.
@ptwob The team that developed this game for IREM (also made R-Type) went on to make the first Metal Slug game forming a company called Nazca, which was bought up by SNK and the team went on to make a few more of the MS games under SNK.
Hey, this looks ok! I normally don't like aquatic/fish based games (I find them disturbing) but th looks good, it has a Metal Slug kind of look to it..
The PSX version has much fewer frames of animation than the Saturn version. If you enjoy'd the animation you saw here, or the animation you'd expect from a Metal Slug, the PSX version will disappoint quite a bit.
The whole game was made by the same team who made Metal Slug, not just the backgrounds. They also made Gunforce 2 which was not that good. They later changed their name to Nazca and made Metal Slug. If you check out Undercover Cops it also has a similar graphic style as well. Irem made and makes some great games.

one of the most underrated games of all time, like someone doesn't say that about some game every day, but this time I really mean it. This game was totally ignored because it wasn't 3-D and now looking back it is one of the most beautiful shooters ever made, and the PSX exclusive soundtrack ROCKS
I agree, the 2-D visuals in this game are fantastic. The slowdown isn't terrible, as you can still enjoy the game. But WOW is it hard later on. YIKES!
have you ever compared the 2 versions ? I prefer playing shooters on the the Saturn but this case is the example not to do. DoDonPachi was also badder on the Saturn.
actually this version has better animaition than the psx version and the slowdown is also present in the original arcade version i read somewhere that it was stratigicly placed so theus the saturn version is a superior port you are right about dodonpachi the playstation has better sound on both pachi games
I played this game through when I was 12. Really good game, but also really hard!

Hmm.. I wasnt impressed greatly with Donpchi on the Saturn, but Dodonpachi was alot better speed and sound-wise IMO..
