read deeper into that (see the book Blood and Soil), it wasn't a genocide the way it happened to armenians and jews, it was more akin to a settler invasion....hereros weren't taken out of their homes by their neighbors, germans went into Africa and started fighting battles....
In 1904, those conflicts resulted in an uprising, known as the Herero Wars, by the Herero and Nama (interestingly, the uprising was planned in an exchange of letters among tribal leaders and some of these documents have been preserved). After a period of success for the well-equipped insurgents, the German Empire sent a military expedition corps of about 15,000 men under the command of Lothar von Trotha.....this is still a small-scale genocide, but it was also a military reaction to violence.
You forgot to mention that the uprising was the German's plan in order to fulfill their doctrine of LEBENSRAUM. Something you should read deeper into. The uprising was only in a small area in the south - the Germans though attacked ALL Herero. The Herero were forced to flee into the desert, the 16.000 survivors were put into concentration camps where they worked to death. No need to downplay this - denying this is inspiring to others.
