  • Is that an ebony fingerboard?

  • @LabelBob

    Yes Bob.

  • i don't think i've ever seen a WB in the flesh, but i discovered them while searching on the net for an aria LP i once owned. everything i read about them seemed that they are probably a great classic forgotten instrument. and your video, even thru the tiny amp, confirmed what i thought: a double-cut humbucker axe that would be perfect for 70's era santana style. Great playing, great guitar! i am so jealous!

  • @popstone1 Thanks, man. It needs another set-up though!

  • Great playing nouriel. Nice to see someone else using a Westbury instead of just demoing it. Especially liked the Claptonesque snatch of Layla (?) at 1:31 the nice unusual exit from the hammering into a bend at 2:29 and of course the overall solo construction. 5 minutes and no boredom. Great writing and playing. My paltry Westbury effort encs as a video response.

  • @JonniVanPlatoni

thanks very much. the layla thing wasn't conscious, it's just a blues riff thing. the other bend is definitely a jeff beck influenced lick.

  • Hi, Good playing and nice guitar. I have a few questions about your Westbury guitar, How wide and thick is the neck and are the frets tall?

  • @101Volts No, it's @ 1 5/8 at the nut (which could be ordered polymer, bone or brass. The bridge and tailpiece are gibson stock. Most had a nashville bridge and hard-tail, This one here has the Gibson Harmonica bridge and hard-tail. The frets are very low, the action on my custom is such that a dime fits flat between the string and twelfth fret. If you ever come across a white DeLuxe, sell your first-born if you have to!!

More info on FB Westbury Guitar owners Forum!

  • Hi there, I had to come and have a look and a listen again, ...cant resist a westbury. Do you know if the pickups in ur guitar are origional and if so have you ever had them off and had a lok at what model they are... I know they wrere dimarzios, info is a bit sketchy, some ppl say it was 2 super distortions, other say a SD and a paf pro-but the paf pro didnt come out until several years after westbury died.. I Im goig to be building a my own super custom and want it accurate. Cheers

  • @growguyuk

Hi growguy, they're the originals. i think they are both super distortions.

The guitar sounds better than what you hear in the video as it was put through a 5 watt transistor practice amp.

I'll try to get a rough video up soon with the guitar going through a an orange tiny terror.

  • my standars is a super d-bridge and a paf(vintage, not pro)-neck.the super d has hex head pole pieces in both coils...the paf has one coil with solid, the other coil being regular old slotted screws...hope this helps...

  • hi .. i love westburys too . ive had a westbury bass for 15 years now .i found it at a carboot sale for £20 .. i wish i could find a 6 string standerd ive been searching every where! ebay and other websites but ive found nothing yet.. they are such an awsome guitar i wish that a company would reissue them ..

  • @growguyuk Not entirely accurate.. The Super D's have allen wrench poles in both rails, the PAF's have one row of screws and a row of flat-top poles. The PAF Pro isn't what's in the pre-81 guitars, it's a PAF design that was hand built and hand-wound by Larry Dimarzio and family from a small start-up in Brooklyn, NY.

a super-custom had wax-potted pups with covers. There's much more info on Westbury Fan site on FB..

    Cheers, The goose

  • @growguyuk I know its a bit late but.............. My deluxe had a Super Distortion on the neck and a Dual Sound on the bridge. The Dual sound was just a Super Distortion that had one the option of having one of the coils switched out.

  • i'm not that good of a player yrt,but i have a standard that was given to me that i refinished...i love it!!!

  • Hi there, Im a lover of westburys-since i saw one in a shop aged 15 and stared at it every day for bout 3 years-it was a black delux, then round the corner was a tobacco sb custom, and someone I knerw had a red standard..

Your guitar confuses me, it looks like a custom but modified? is it? Ie the micro switches where the 6-way should be, or is it a wtn200 through neck-the last westbury guitar model and only through neck. Your very guitar is included on the univox website I think. Distinctive

  • On the univox site it says it's the "antique walnut (W2300)", the sound on the video's not great because it's through a transistor practice amp. will try and get a proper video up soon. Regards.

  • got a westbury custom for free in horrible condition

$60 at a local guitar shop for a fix kept all original parts plays mint

  • i just bought a deluxe off ebay for £200

  • Uncle Pentatonic doesn't work at 1:47-1:50

  • Any chance of 'homeward bound'?

  • Would need to spend a couple of months in a woodshed to get up to speed for those chops..

  • good taste. i used to play a friend's westbury and it had not that little toggle switches near the bridge pickup. is it an improvement you've done by yourself?

thanks for posting and additional info.

  • I think that could be down to the model in question, telecaster. The standard has the toggle in the "traditional" les paul position while the custom's is near the bridge.

  • ok. thank you and keep up the good work.

  • Hey cool video! I gotta question,is your guitar neck wider than normal or do you just have small hands? Don't take it wrongly, I love your playing.

  • To be honest i've never though about that. Now that you mention it, I've had a look and you're right. Thanks for the comment man.

  • awesome i love ur style you got any idea where i can get the tune-o-matic bridge for my westbury deluxe lost mine when i took it apart last lol

  • Hi Shredder, enjoyed your priest videos by the way.

That's a tough question. I got mine second hand about 17 years ago and it has all the original hardware. They stopped making Westburys around 1982 so I reckon it would be tough to get a bridge. I'd recommend finding a good luthier where you live and bring the axe there. Also you could check out the forums on Harmony Central: there are some really knowledgable guys on there. There are also some reviews of westburys in the review section.

  • You really got the feeling, and your Westbury sounds good too. Is it standard?

  • Hi Maja, no it's a custom. As far as i know both guitars share the same pickups (dimarzios), but the custom has more switching options, in and out of phase and all that.

  • Indeed..I have 2 standards,I've played everything but nothing feels like home other than my green westbury standard...You can't argue with no frills simplicity...The nutty collectors will be coming for the pick ups soon...They aint getting mine!!

    Cheers for the vid!

  • Westburys ROCK I have an Ivory Deluxe I can see by your Facial Expressions you feel it!

  • ohh mann i have one of them its all apart though i painted it like an ass it was the tobacco sunburst deluxe i hate myself for ruining it too so nice it was too

  • Oh yes. westbury guitars :)
