@ViennasNachos it is less faster, but you can shoot 5 rounds and they can hit the ground on the same time and it is mobile! but i think it is also more accurate and you need only 5 man.
@MaineShag55 a lot...not a G.I., a Marine, and more specifically an artilleryman (not general infantry)...i wanna know why they have rounds lying on the deck among other issues I see...
Just curious, how much does the recoil kick back the next expected shot? Doesn't it kick it off its original standing, so the next show wouldn't be where the first is? Obviously this is not the case because they aren't adjusting its stand but do they take that into account at all, or is the mount sturdy enough for any subsequent shots to land in the same general vicinity?
@1Peezy1 It will stay at it's current elevation if the gun is dug in well, it was designed for it. However the assistant gunner (the guy that sets the elevation) should be rechecking after each shot to make sure its still right. But this seems like a battlefield situation, and speed is key in combat.
@1Peezy1 Depends on the dirt. Softer dirt = more displacement. Displacement is measured in a specific way and the tube angle is adjusted after every shot if needed. Depending on the method with which they measure and adjust the displacement, the fire is more or less accurate but even in the least accurate method, the displacement is offset and the rounds should fall within about 50 meters at most
@libertateaaa multiply each gun's rate of fire by the number of guns, the number of rounds fired, and the fact that the kill radius on a 155mm artillery shell is 50 meters and the result is absolutely deadly regardless.
To make cheers after firing a gun and thus having probably killed humans- a surprisingly disgusting behaviour it would be when seen performed by many nations. But not surprising when done by us troops.
@wasistdaswasdasist sitting in your computer chair making comments on youtube about things you know nothing about.... not surprising when you're an idiot.
@wasistdaswasdasist I know i was cheering pretty hard after I killed my share of Taliban with a M777. We all were. And I'm sure they were cheering after they destroyed the world trade center of over 2000 innocent civilians. Yeah. Not surprising.
@AristograntusMCMLXXX It's already sighted in. Those mortar rounds are moving so fast by the time the recoil hits the machine the round is already in its sector and probably a mile down range by the time the machine digs into the ground and bounces around. So they're about as accurate as about a football field in length and width from 10 miles away.
@AristograntusMCMLXXX 1. No. Or define "small". 2. Not if it's dug in well. 3. Dig holes and place the spades in the ground, then recover the holes with dirt.
@AristograntusMCMLXXX No...just like when you shoot a rifle, after you take each shot, you sight back in and reaim. Same with artillery except the method is more geometrically involved. Just remember we're talking miles and miles of shooting...artillery by nature is not perfectly accurate anyway, so proper precautions are taken in that light. Yes it moves, that's why the 'spades' at the rear of the howitzer are dug into the ground. The howitzer's design keeps it stabilized
It CAN, but its highly difficult, and the one person would have to know how to insert the shell, calculate the firing arc, andhave the endurance to do all of the things at once.
@jbbcu1 because it takes a long time to get the aircraft in the air, its more expensive, and it may be overkill or otherwise not needed by the time the aircraft gets there?
though i cant expect intelligent questions with someone who has a video history of "public farting"
@jbbcu1 A grunt downrange requests air support - air support arrives in 20 minutes...engaging Taliban leave 20 minutes after initial contact so by the time air gets there, the enemy is gone. A grunt downrange requests arty - 30 seconds later you have 100lb high explosive 155mm shells flying through the air aimed at the enemy. They've got less than 1 minute to live.
@kaahaajaFIN Taliban. Afghanistan is not a very oil rich country. Try poppy fields...grown to make opium...largest exporter in the world. Unfortunately, there is barely such a thing as an Afghan 'civilian' because of the Taliban's tireless efforts to bring the Afghan state DOWN to rule, oppress, and brainwash the populace. The greatest effort is that of helping Afghanistan people stand on their own feet, rid the Taliban, and help cultivate this idea you have of 'Afghan civilians'
@DanielPBullis So you're basicly saying that each citizen of Afghanistan is basicly a target, which deserves to be killed? Well that seems to be true, by looking at your Iraq war casualties. Over 60% of that wars casualties were civilians.
@kaahaajaFIN I thought he was emphasizing the difficulty of the situation out there: Because the Taliban are cowardly bastards, its almost impossible to distinguish who's a civvy, and who wants to kill you until they start shooting. Its like Vietnam; because of the nature of the Viet Cong, even children had to be looked at with suspicion. During the World Wars, it was a stand up fight, and it was clear who was a soldier and who wasn't. Here, its so hard to determine, "civilian" doesn't work.
@FallenuD It's indirect fire, meaning you can't see your target. These guns can shoot up to 18 miles. When they need help from the artillery, specially trained infantry call in coordinates for fire.
@MisterHaxor911 you're "ignorants" for thinking all americans are ignorant. you don't know me. I don't talk shit but when someone dishes it out i will dish it back and beat the shit out of them. say it to my face and when you're done you wont have one.
@sissuification he pushes the round in one guy puts it on the lever which lowers it in front of the bore and the guy with the rod pushes the round deep enough so next Marine can put the cordite charge behind which propels the round, and the rod is for comfort so the Marine doesnt have to bent to push it in.

Again, you're not understanding the many same charachteristics the m777 has that only the m198 has. It's not just comparing a car to a car. It's like comparing a ferarri to a ferarri. Much more similar.
Of course we buy SOME ideas from other countries, but at the end of the day, more countries buy our technology than anyone elses, which shows who has the best innovation/inventions
@vigorousAtheist but my orginal point was m777 is british designed i dont dispute they both do the same job not and in essence the same thing just one is british lol. i agree we export a lot but we do buy also. bbl
@vigorousAtheist Sorry but you are totally mistaken. The M777 was originally designed as a private venture in the UK by Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd (VSEL) at the Armamants plant at the Shipyard in Barrow in Furness Cumbria. First prototypes completed in the 1995 to 1998 time frame. The M198 was designed by Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. There is absolutely ZERO lineage between the two radically different designs. You come back with a response like that! Wow. Didnt realise you had such a fragile little ego Oh well carry on. Im sure you will have some incredibly witty response to this.
Well lets say 9 155mm shells a gun and these groups normally have 4 guns so that comes to about 36 155mm shells landing on the people on the receiving end... yep their screwed.
These aren't US Marines. These men are from the Canadian Army. They share very similar camo with the Marines so it's understandable that this mishap was made, but it needs to be corrected.
My dad was a corpsman in the Navy. When he was working one day, a marine came into the hospital with his arm missing. He blew his arm off during a mortar training exercise. I just thought I would share.
I didn't know they still "swab" the tube between shots. I saw a demonstration of a US civil war cannon on TV and they swabbed the tube between shots, but I though that was a quaint thing of the past.

This is the Canadian Army not the Marines..
ak47santic 2 months ago
what do they fight an army of gozillas?
PwnamentDay 3 months ago
Well lets say 9 155mm shells a gun and these groups normally have 4 guns so that comes to about 36 155mm shells landing on the people on the receiving end... yep their screwed.
(SET UP TO FIRE AGAIN!) (Thumbs up if you agree.)
