Think of it this way-you got "friends". The "pro-tubers" have fans. You respond to us, and yer real. The "pro's" never rarely, if ever, respond, and seems to be more superficial. You can only have so many friends, which means a lot, where u can have millions of fans which, except for financial reasons, are nameless faceless people who they rarely give a a crap about,cuz they don't know them.
I've never seen your videos before today, but I'm glad I found them. I have a lot of respect for youtubers who read their comments and respond. After google bought youtube and offered big bucks for lots of views/subscribers, people became more impersonal and more industrialized. Today, many of the big youtubers only read comments some of the time, and respond with gloating or trollish responses. In one sense, you have a more personal connection with your viewers, but thats not mainstream.

Yeah, it can get discouraging. I used to get over a thousand views in the old days on a video with just a little over a hundred subscribers. Now it's tough to get a hundred views. I did get discouraged and stopped making videos for a few months, but when I came back, I got all these comments from people who were waiting for my next video.
Yeah, you can call yourself one of the YouTube pioneers. Anyone who would argue with that wasn't here in the old days.
I know what you mean and I have similar feelings. My views are way down, but some people still watch. I really do it for myself and my friends. None of the big money makers are interesting to me, except maybe MysteryGuitarMan who is very talented. I still watch you, though. Never miss a video, and I would be very sad if you stopped.

LOTS of ppl I used to watch don't post, some who do shouldn't (No names, Montagraph!) and some I watch now weren't around then. Its not for the money, its for the love. Otherwise, whats the point?
If you don't give a shit about the THOUSANDS of people that still watch then maybe you should leave. You should be making videos because you enjoy it, not to be more popular or make a bunch of money.
I've been watching vlogs and the like on here for about 4 years now... I don't visit it as much as I used to, which tells you how crap it has gone recently! A lot of the people I subscribe to no longer upload videos any more, which is a big factor, but I do log in every couple of weeks to catch up with the ones still around. Point is, I still watch ya, so don't stop posting! Ironic really, I came to YouTube because it WASN'T TV, that's what attracted me to it in the first place!
I'm glad you wont be leaving youtube. Times are changing and getting views is harder and harder for all of us. And youtube has more glitches than ever! IT's not you, Zippy. It's the way things are changing in the world. Youtube IS like television. Isn't that sad?

Ahh yes.. the Golden Age of Youtube when it really was about "Broadcasting yourself". When community was supreme and a few thousand subs meant something. I remember when features were people you didn't already know. Interesting vlogs by netizens just like you. Good to know there are still a handful of us "talking heads" still doing what we do in-spite of the changes. It will be a sad day at Youtube when you decide it just isn't worth it any more.

wow. Electric bill and car payment. That is better than I thought. Not bad. I know you work for it but it doesn't sound that bad. I enjoy You Tube but never wanted to get wrapped up into it. I made a few videos and things in my life changed with the death of my Mother. I knew people didn't really want to watch where my head and heart was. Most of the BIGGIES I didn't really care for. Trippy, Smosh..I could go on and on....but I did find LOTS of people I adored, and that included you.
I think the 20-20 special drove home what many of us "oldsters" have been trying to avoid admitting. YouTube is all about money and "stardom" now. Not one word of acknowledgement of "Community," or of those who made it what it is. The old "Broadcast yourself" is long gone, and the "You" is no longer what it's about. If they cracked you open, a singing frog would jump out. You are a cornerstone of this behemoth. You were one of the first vloggers I saw- before such a things as a "vlog" even existed- and because of you I decided to give it a whirl. It was like the Wild West back then, but it actually really was very small community. It felt like it was the whole world because we didn't know any better. All they did was build a skyscraper above a little house & the dancing frogs are still in the house.
as you say the vids in here have change...not all but many ...and all the hysteric "please comment ..the best comment gets a give away" and hit the like button and you up for some free gifts ..and so on makes me puke ....i thought the main thing with youtube was to broadcast to get some backfeed ..but as you say things have changed a lot

We all miss the old Tube. I watched your FB link and almost felt a bit disgusted. Time and time again, it's the same faces. I don't mean to seem like a hater, but I'm leaning with you on this one. You'll never hear about days of old unless one of US does it the way is SUPPOSED to be done, otherwise, you'll only keep hearing about to the top subs "Cried" on YT, who make "THE" weakest content, imho.

Its a new audience these days-the crowds don't seem to care about the real people. It's gone comercial big time, and I'm afraid some people knew to play it that way from the start. One of the things I love about you is you were here, doing what you did because you loved to do it, not a scripted production. I'd be gutted if you left, because you really ARE one of the true original pioneers, and will always have more respect from me for that, as well as that I just love you anyway!

Hi Zipster, please stay. I am one of your silent viewers. I don't comment but watching your videos always puts me in a better mood. YouTube users, like the global community needs big cities with big entertainment but also the quite intimate places where you meet real people as they are. I am too shy to vlog or even post a picture but I adore people like you that are not afraid to express themselves. Just know that you have the ability to touch people and do good by simply being yourself.
I'm always lurking at your videos, but free time to comment, interact, etc is just too short and in between. I'm glad you never changed like some of the others from "back in the day", though. :)

I think the community still exists on YouTube, but we are under the surface. Sometimes I wonder if all the views the big guys get are computer programs or are they real. I mean, don't get me wrong... I enjoy some of their content, but it's just a nagging doubt I have because of bots that can show you have a lot of subscribers, I wonder if they have a program that makes it look like they have more views and then it's a mental thing where oh you have to be subbed to them cause their big.

I totally hear you and can understand why it's discouraging. But, my dear, you really don't need all the bells and whistles. You ARE the bells and whistles. I have been watching YouTube videos for years now and YOU are the only one I consistently watch and am exdited to see a new video. Yes. There is talent out there for sure, but you have a unique niche with your "ahem" no holes barred vlogging and cavalcade of characters. You would leave a terrible void if you left.

You're a dying breed! You are one of the last of your kind with a changing environment. YouTube is no longer about the community, but more about mindlessly staring at your Sub box until something new appears - people no longer create content because you can no longer compete for views, or even get a damn comment!

I've been a long term loyal viewer of your work. Do you know if there is an alternative site? I am so sick of all the ads (they often cover up items that need sto be seen that are relevant to the vid). Also the censorship has way gotten outta contol! Onision bleeped out two words that are NOT censorable (ejaculation & semen). Those are valid technical words and are NOT dirty words! I am not looking for an X rated site, just one that isn't so uptight. I adore my yt, it is just not the same. :)

Youtube has turned into a race for money. Its sad to see some of my favorites turn that way. The only thing I changed was my theme (I got tired of the really weird emails LOL). You inspired me to make videos, Terry - I know you are a pioneer.

I couldn't watch the entire show because I found myself feeling 'less than' and at this point in my life (in the midst of a horrible mid-life crisis and all) hearing about all the "accidental" YouTube success stories just isn't having a positive influence on me. Well, yeah, the unfortunate thing is money talks and bullshit walks and those people that have enough money to pay to be the most viewed or people produced by a major media company get views because YT is absolutely NOTHING like it was in 2007. I remember the front page was simply people that were featured, chosen by the staff, but it was user-generated content and a lot of them were simply people that made a decent video with their webcam.

For all the improvements that YouTube giveth, the other hand taketh. It's a real chore to come here nowadays. Personally, I just became disinterested in what goes on here, but I like making videos. My camera isn't the best, and I can't be bothered half the time to edit the raw footage into something watchable.
It's also clear that to be visible, you need to grease the wheels. That's the only explanation I can think of for some videos on the main page.
Ps. Youtube has been a huge financial flop for google. If the ads and making some youtubers into tv channels allows the rest of us a chance to become whatever we want/or are tallented enough to be, then I think its worth it. In the old days of movies and tv, none of us ever had the shot of being something, even if we were tallented. It is great that there are stars which millions of people adore. But it is also great that we have stars which thousands, or hundreds of people adore. You're a star!

I've been watching vlogs and the like on here for about 4 years now... I don't visit it as much as I used to, which tells you how crap it has gone recently! A lot of the people I subscribe to no longer upload videos any more, which is a big factor, but I do log in every couple of weeks to catch up with the ones still around. Point is, I still watch ya, so don't stop posting! Ironic really, I came to YouTube because it WASN'T TV, that's what attracted me to it in the first place!

Ahh yes.. the Golden Age of Youtube when it really was about "Broadcasting yourself". When community was supreme and a few thousand subs meant something. I remember when features were people you didn't already know. Interesting vlogs by netizens just like you. Good to know there are still a handful of us "talking heads" still doing what we do in-spite of the changes. It will be a sad day at Youtube when you decide it just isn't worth it any more.

I think the 20-20 special drove home what many of us "oldsters" have been trying to avoid admitting. YouTube is all about money and "stardom" now. Not one word of acknowledgement of "Community," or of those who made it what it is. The old "Broadcast yourself" is long gone, and the "You" is no longer what it's about. Yes, it's disappointing, Zip, but whaddaya do?

You were one of the first vloggers I saw- before such a things as a "vlog" even existed- and because of you I decided to give it a whirl. It was like the Wild West back then, but it actually really was very small community. It felt like it was the whole world because we didn't know any better. Its a new audience these days-the crowds don't seem to care about the real people. It's gone comercial big time, and I'm afraid some people knew to play it that way from the start. One of the things I love about you is you were here, doing what you did because you loved to do it, not a scripted production. I think the community still exists on YouTube, but we are under the surface. Sometimes I wonder if all the views the big guys get are computer programs or are they real. I mean, don't get me wrong... I enjoy some of their content, but it's just a nagging doubt I have because of bots that can show you have a lot of subscribers, I wonder if they have a program that makes it look like they have more views and then it's a mental thing where oh you have to be subbed to them cause their big.

I totally hear you and can understand why it's discouraging. But, my dear, you really don't need all the bells and whistles. You ARE the bells and whistles. I have been watching YouTube videos for years now and YOU are the only one I consistently watch and am exdited to see a new video. Yes. I've been a long term loyal viewer of your work. Do you know if there is an alternative site? I am so sick of all the ads (they often cover up items that need sto be seen that are relevant to the vid). Also the censorship has way gotten outta contol! Onision bleeped out two words that are NOT censorable (ejaculation & semen). Those are valid technical words and are NOT dirty words! I am not looking for an X rated site, just one that isn't so uptight. I adore my yt, it is just not the same. :)

Youtube has turned into a race for money. Its sad to see some of my favorites turn that way. The only thing I changed was my theme (I got tired of the really weird emails LOL). You inspired me to make videos, Terry - I know you are a pioneer.

Well, yeah, the unfortunate thing is money talks and bullshit walks and those people that have enough money to pay to be the most viewed or people produced by a major media company get views because YT is absolutely NOTHING like it was in 2007. I remember the front page was simply people that were featured, chosen by the staff, but it was user-generated content and a lot of them were simply people that made a decent video with their webcam.

Totally understand you Zipster.
For all the improvements that YouTube giveth, the other hand taketh. It's a real chore to come here nowadays. Personally, I just became disinterested in what goes on here, but I like making videos. My camera isn't the best, and I can't be bothered half the time to edit the raw footage into something watchable.
It's also clear that to be visible, you need to grease the wheels. That's the only explanation I can think of for some videos on the main page.

Ps. Youtube has been a huge financial flop for google. If the ads and making some youtubers into tv channels allows the rest of us a chance to become whatever we want/or are tallented enough to be, then I think its worth it. In the old days of movies and tv, none of us ever had the shot of being something, even if we were tallented. It is great that there are stars which millions of people adore. But it is also great that we have stars which thousands, or hundreds of people adore. You're a star!
