  • This is like fighting your Granddad. Respect to Archie, what a warrior to hang around in the sport for so long and remain a high-ranked competitor. The only man to fight Ali and Marciano.

They don't make them like the Old Mongoose anymore!!

  • look at cus pick him up at the end. R.I.P

  • How old was moore here?

  • Флойд красавчик. Классный боксёр. Его скромность красила его. Мужик.

  • it's too bad that didn't fight at LHWT could've been the G.O.A.T at it. But there's just no topping the Heavyweight Championship of the World. And he won it at 21! WOW!

  • crazy seein patterson execute the "peekaboo" then watchin Mike Tyson utilize it...

  • @ViceVurze1: Patterson and Tyson had the same coach (Cus D'mato). Cus taught Tyson Patterson's style.

  • @ViceVurze1 whys that?

  • @ViceVurze1 Agreed.

    Especially at 6:18.

    peekaboo, peekaboo

    left hook. lights out

  • @ViceVurze1 crazy to think they both had the same trainer

  • Patterson the best boxer on movements

  • Floyd has been whithout dubbios, the first boxer of the new boxing era. Him was very different by all fighters before. "Greath Cus'...". Patterson in my opinion, have a different phisical by Mike, but us can see some tecnique, like the terrible left hoock, exactly same than Mike. That images are very important for undestanding who are different the old, by the modern boxing tecnique..

  • Patterson was a solid champion but his "glass jaw" was his only problem. He was a gentleman in the ring and out of the ring - a classy guy. Archie Moore spanned 4 decades of fighting with a 183 wins 25 losses l draw and a withdrawal I believe. Great men of the sport of boxing.

  • PATTERSON HEAD MOVEMENT IS EXCELLENT! JUST LIKE A YOUNG MIKE TYSON!

  • i really like rocky's voicing the fight they should have fighter's do that more

  • Floyd is the man...what a fighter he was...Moore was a good one also.

  • i don't mind that patterson isn't one of the all time greatest..

i just live his style and aesthetic. he's just an awesome image for a boxer.

LOL at rocky on the mic!

  • @auraliztic Maybe not one of the all time greatest Heavyweights, but pound for pound he ranks highly, in my opinion. He was more of a natural Lt. Heavy, and in fact started his career there with great success. Brilliant fighter at his best. If only he'd have kept at that weight for the majority of his prime.

  • Ha! Just think, Youtube was almost 50 years away when these men fought!

  • Floyd Patterson left hook lifted Moor

  • When the camera up and changes to a completely different view, is it just a camera change or is there footage missing? Happens a lot in these old black and white ones

  • this is a excellent patterson fight

  • You’d think the referee would have had enough fricken brains to stop the fight after Moore was knocked down. He was in a daze and completely defenseless.

  • omg d commentary is so boring....there,a terrific left hook....zzzzz....zzzz...lol

  • The ref only counted 8 seconds lol wtf. at 6:34

  • who do you think would win in a match between a prime marciano and patterson?

  • @wamiqm ---u cant answer that question? Patterson had one of the worst chins in history. U dont think that Rocky would catch him and level him sometime over 15 (or even 12 rd ) fight? Floyd was very fast, and he punched pretty well, but he would not have a chance.

  • Is it me or is Rocky kind of biased?

  • i love both archie moore and floyd patterson but i do love moore a lil bit more lol that was funny get it more hahahahahahaha but anyway it looks like mike tyson got his style from floyd patterson.

  • i hate fighters who send their head in first like that.as a trainer i would never let a fighter do that!!

  • you can see similarities in patterson and tyson courtesy of cus... both crouch down low moving head with guard up and leading with a left hook... and he stands pretty squad on a times in front of an opponent... they defo got some similar traits...

  • @Specktakool ---they were both trained by Cus D'amato. patterson had to use that style, due to his weak chin

  • @loyaldude10

yeah thats why i said you can see the similarities of tyson and patterson courtesy of CUS lol

  • @loyaldude10 'due' to his weak chin? Its a great style to have regardless of chin, and I doubt Cus would have trained him differently had he been tougher..

  • patterson and tyson have similar backgrounds and also have a similar fighting style.

  • @illadelphripper

because they had the same trainer

  • @Bucketheadhead i know

  • At this point in time Patterson had UNLIMITED potential.

Once he had the title his manager Cus D'Amato would not let him fight his top contenders (Machen and Folley) and unfortunately stopped his development.

  • 2 great fighting legends patterson and moore but patterson was better on this night

  • Floyd Patterson... First time I've seen a fight of his... Truly awesome.

We need more fighters like him. We need more gentlemen... Not those chest beating gorillas we have to see nowadays...

  • boxer: Willie Pastrano

  • Who is the commentator?

  • Rocky Marciano.

  • @TheGreatA thatz awesome

  • @albertspangler Patrice Quarteron

  • @albertspangler thats Cus d amato

  • @rickosuave29 no its rocky marciano

  • Rocky would have kill Patterson. he has a chin made glasses , KO the first fighter to get KO'ed by a Jab!

  • @sugarfrankjr Patterson should not have even BEEN a heavyweight as in he was just too small the guy walked around at my weight 170 and was one of the only boxers i think who had to GAIN to fight in his weight class

  • @MrKeepnit100 True he should have been the greatest LtHeavy champ but DAmato really wanted a heavyweight champ. As far as the difference between Rocky and Floyds fights with Archie the biggest difference was style and speed certainly not power or strength. Floyd is not given the credit he deserves for what he accomplished unlike Rocky who ran 15 miles a day to trim down to under 200 where as you said Floyd had to gain weight to make 180+. Rock was a natural heavy and Floyd was a natural S-Middle

  • Quick count on the 2nd knockdown.

  • Floyd beat a lot of good fighters in the 60seven when he was past his best days. This Floyd in '56 was a very good fighter, super fast with underated power.

  • If the "Old Master" was gassed and out outclassed by the 4th how ugly would it have been for Marciano?

  • @PUGCAT - Marciano woulda caught Patterson on that chinny chin chin and KO'd him.

  • I guess Marciano's happy he's commenting on Patterson instead of fighting him lol

  • @blackezi3 - Yeah, Marciano would've hated to have had to KO such a gentleman like Patterson.

  • Prime Patterson here... since he lost 2 sonny liston he was a different fighter

  • @sugarfrankjr - I don't know who shit themselves worse... Patterson on the way to the ring against Liston or Michael Spinks on the way to the ring against Tyson.

  • What about Marciano V Patterson in 1956 if he hadn't retired?

I'd pick Marciano because of Floyd's shaky punch resistance but I wouldn't say the outcome is certain.

  • one of the kings of left hooks right there :)

  • Archie Moore made a mistake using a cross your heart defense against a guy with a left hook. Especially in close, it's really hard to block a left hook with that defense. He also kept his hands too low even on the inside. Strange fight from a guy with his experience, although Patterson's speed probably made anything he did useless anyway.

  • @TA152H01 could give Archie Moore boxing lessons.

    LOL

  • @marcxopoco Unless it's God himself, any human can make mistake. Look at your parents, they had you.

Some guys fight the same style without taking into account the guy they were fighting. In this fight, you see Moore hit by the left way too many times, and you see him employ a defense that is not effective against the left hook.

Draw the conclusion for yourself. And, by the way, Moore made a lot of mistakes. Everyone does. It's part of being human.

  • Halfwit .@TA152H01 thinks Archie Moore was the only fighter ever to get hit by Patterson's left hook.

TA could give Archie Moore boxing lessons.

Bright boy TA knows that Patterson never hit anyone else with his left hook--not Johansson, not Hurricane Jackson, not Henry Cooper, etc etc etc.

  • @TA152H01 , like all low mentality inhabiters of the gutter, can only resort to ad hominem trash talk 'attacks' when he is confronted with the fact that he is another in a long line of phony youtube instant 'experts.'

Next half-witted TA will tell how us how he could give Isaac Newton math lessons and Rembrandt painting lessons.

Keep pouring out the crap, halfwit.

  • @marcxopoco Kind of funny, how a degenerate like you can't even see the hypocrisy in your own statements. But, then, the unwashed and vile rarely can see their own flaws, that's why they are what they are.

Fact is, cross your heart defense doesn't protect against the hook well. Fact is, Patterson knocked him out with a left hook.

Archie lost a lot of fights, and made a lot of mistakes. Look at how he fought Marciano. He tried to outslug a slugger.

Boxer = Newton? You pathetic dolt

  • Self-proclaimed youtube boxing "expert" and low grade moron @TA152H01 has uncovered the amazing fact that of all the 231 fighters Archie Moore fought, only Floyd Patterson had a left hook.

  • @marcxopoco Self-proclaimed would mean I said it somewhere. Show me where I said I was a boxing expert. I guess you're a moron, huh, because I never said it.

You again, being a bottom-feeding dolt, miss what I said. You are one dumb bunny.

Patterson had the speed to get inside, and throw it before Moore could react, making it the wrong stance. A slower fighter he could react to better.

Moore also kept his hands too low against a fast fighter. He never compensated for the speed

  • @TA152H01--- the self-proclaimed youtube boxing expert who could Archie Moore boxing lessons.

    LOL

TA could also give Ty Cobb base stealing lessons and Rembrandt painting lessons.

He could also give Caruso lessons in singing and Beethoven and Bach lessons in writing music. Not to mention Mozart.

    Keep the crap coming, halfwit.

TA is the ultimate internet youtube twit who sits on his ass in the safety of his trailer park and expounds on his "superiority" from his fantasy world.

  • @marcxopoco Again, little dork, I never claimed anything, except Moore made mistakes.

I'm not a big fan of Beethoven. And you did mention Mozart, by saying you weren't. You're a real dumb ass, huh?

Ty Cobb wasn't the greatest base stealer. Lou Brock? Ricky Henderson? Maury Wills?

Why so much anger? Did your boyfriend move out? When are you getting evicted? Any chance of finding a job before then?

  • @TA152H01 is the ultimate trailer park youtube "expert."

At this point poor TA is reduced to posting feminine "insults" since he is unable to explain why trailer park trash like himself knows more about boxing than Archie Moore.

From the wooden crate he sits on in front of his trailer park welfare department donated computer TA tries to explain he could instruct the great Archie Moore in boxing.

Not to mention instructing Nikola Tesla in electrical engineering and Rodin in sculpture.

  • @marcxopoco You're one dumb bunny. You think Archie Moore never made a mistake? You think even smart boxers don't look at a fight and say I did this or that wrong? Only an ill-bred butt monkey like you has no insight into this.

Instead of sphincter licking Moore's ass, tell me why cross your heart was the correct defense. You can't. It was a mistake, and he lost because of it. He probably would have lost either way, in all fairness, but that "defense" didn't give him the best chance.

  • @TA152H01 not only is incompetent when it comes to boxing, but he is running out of gutter level "insults" he picked up from his fellow homosexuals --all of whom--of course-- are "experts" on boxing just like he (she?) is.

  • @marcxopoco Again, you can't answer the question, and head to hypocrisy. If you use homo references, you can't criticize them.

Now, I'm guessing (well, it's not a guess) you know nothing about boxing, and can't understand what I'm saying, at all. So, you simply take a blank statement that Archie Moore couldn't have made a mistake, even though his IQ was not that high, and he clearly did since he lost so badly.

Stop looking at these guys butts, and watch what happened. Dumb bastard.

  • Half-witted, foul mouthed youtube poster @TA152H01 could give Archie Moore boxing lessons.

He will tell you so himself.

TA's posts instructing Afrchie Moore on how to box are a classic example of the delusional fantasies of the low mentality loser who has found his niche, posting his delusional fantasies on youtube.

  • @marcxopoco You prove my point again. You can't answer the question. You're too fixated on rump.

Take some testosterone so you can get your mind off his buttocks, watch the fight, and see what happens. He's fighting against a guy slower than Patterson. Because of the way your balance is, and the where the hands are, you can't fight a guy much faster with that defense, or you get nailed.

It's good at taking away the jab, but vulnerable to the hook if the guy is fast. Result? KO!

  • Potty-mouthed low-grade moron TA has access to a computer and in the safety of the unreal world of posting on youtube he poses as a boxing "expert."

In fact such a boxing "expert" that he could Archie Moore boxing lessons.

His (her?) posts are a classic example of the delusional fantasies of the low mentality loser who has found his niche, posting his delusional fantasies on youtube.

  • He looked just like Tyson in this fight. Only a lot lighter. That was Patterson's problem. To small for a heavyweight and not enough chin.

  • D'Amato was a great trainer

  • Floyd Patterson was very sharp here. At 2:00 he threw 6 left hands and slipped every single punch that Archie threw back at him all in about 2 seconds.

  • Wow! Marciano commenting! Awesome boxing insight!

  • Patterson here was SO much better than he was later on.

His left jab was messing up Moore.

Interesting how much slower Patterson's hands got later on.

    Marciano's comments are excellent.

  • Floyd was in his prime here.

  • Patterson was never as good again after his first title defense against Hurricane Jackson.

His fights with Moore and with Jackson in his first title defense were his prime.

  • Daaaaamn,u can sure see the same style in Tyson and Patterson! Tyson just had the power and was more aggressive, but D Amata did a damn good job with both of them!!!

  • If Patterson wanted he could have been LH Champion. Actually, considering he beat LH Champion Moore....just saying.

Today he would have the chance to capture the title at 160/MW, 168/SMW,

    175/LH, Cruiserweight.

I can't see anybody beating him from at least 160-175 right now.

  • Actually, not really sure he could have made MW although I guess with how fighters do it today with "making weight" for the scales then rehydrating, why not. I would still favor him for the sake of it if you pit the Gold Medal amateur version of him against somone like Pavlik who is MW Champion.

And of course can't see who beats him from 168-175.

  • And Floyd had the 10 times heart ,skill, speed and intelligence than Tyson. Damato was Floyd's first "maneger" who was fired by Floyd later on. It was Frank Rivelle who trained Floyd.

  • Nor Ali nor Patterson were faster than the referee counting Archie out. Fast hands!!!

  • Archie was hurt bad.

  • That was a heavy hook he threw to knockout Moore, indeed a heavy weight champion's Arm. RIP

  • The "Kangaroo punch"

  • Patterson had extremly fast hands for a heavyweight, probably faster than Ali's

  • That because he was a light heavy fighting heavys

  • Yea why do they make him like a slow slugger in fight night 3 when he is fast boxer puncher.

  • 'why do they make him like? a slow slugger in fight night 3 when he is fast boxer puncher'

    I'll tell you shall I?

Its because Fight Night is actually a PIECE OF SHIT GAME that people love because its ALL THEY HAVE.

Its like some people with religion, a last bastion, when in reality, its a piece of over hyped crap that should be a LOT better than it actually is.

But what can they do about it, play DK Prizefighter?of course not, so they suck on E.A.'s cash cow, even though its sub standard.

  • Not faster than Ali but fast

  • Many times faster than Ali's.

  • @marcxopoco amm no.Floyd is 6 feet 180 ibs,Ali 6,3 feet 215 ibs,world of difernece.Is to say that if Ali was Floyds size he would b faster then him.capish?

  • @bojanstoiljkovic Two different fighters. Patterson had a real left hook, and was a quicker, but your point is absolutely right on the money. Ray Leonard was faster than Patterson. For their weight classes, meaning where it mattered, they were probably the same.

But, the big problem was Patterson couldn't take a heavyweight's punch. Many point to Ali's hand speed as his greatest asset, but I'd argue his chin was.

To beat great fighters consistently, you need a chin.

  • @TA152H01 in his prime, prior to the break of 3 years when he wasnt allowed to box, probably his legs and reflexes were alis strongest weapon then. but his hands were pretty quick and most of all his punches were very accurate.

  • @pearsnockie I'd kind of agree his legs, because he didn't really have much of a chin when he was young, but his reflexes still got him nailed repeatedly by a slow Liston, and Foley.

I think Holmes was as fast as Ali, and I think Patterson was faster, both in their primes. But, watch Holmes move around the ring, or Patterson. They look clumsy compared to Ali. Only Ray Leonard moved that well, and both guys lost their hands before their legs, Leonard particularly so.

  • @TA152H01 I dont see how he "got nailed repeatedly" by "a slow Liston" and Foley. Neither do I see that those fighters were slow nor that he got nailed by him repeatedly. Also I dont think that you can really improve a chin over the years. Certainly Ali was tougher in his "second career" but the few knockdowns he had before 1968 rather caught him offbalanced than that they really hurt him.

  • @pearsnockie You don't think Liston was slow? Wow. He was a skilled guy, no question, but his hand speed was very slow. Ali did get hit quite a few times, especially by that clubbing hook. Probably Ali didn't allow for Liston's huge reach. Foley also hit him too often. Neither really should have.

Ali was almost knocked out by Cooper, hurt badly by Banks, and seriously hurt by Frazier (round 11). Round 15 he was just exhausted. But, he was never hurt like that again.

  • @TA152H01 He got up quickly and won the fights convincingly (although the Henry Cooper fight with the gloves affair might be a lil peculiar lol). I also think Pattersons hands were quicker than Alis. But it couldnt make him last against the big guys in the heavy weight division. too bad cruiser wasnt invented back then.

  • @pearsnockie Patterson would have been a great LH, if he was just a little smaller. I think even as a Cruiser, his chin might be an issue, but, he'd certainly be much better there than heavyweight. He might lose a fight here and there by knockout, but otherwise would probably dominate any fights he didn't get knocked out in.

Cooper was a good fighter, and had decent hand speed, but obviously Ali's chin changed. If he got hit by that punch in 1975, you think he'd go down like that?

  • @TA152H01 I dont know man... Ive just watched that clay - cooper fight again and it really was a massive punch that hit ali... and cooper COULD punch. still in 1975 ali was tougher, as if he "leaned" how to take a beating- to compensate for his legs, which werent the same no more.

  • @pearsnockie Well, agreed, Cooper was a fine fighter, but then, look at who hit Ali in the 70s. Joe Frazier hit him with bomb after bomb, at least as good as that shot. Not only did Ali not go down (except the 15th, but he was dead tired), but he took them continuously. Norton's crazy right hands landed constantly. Earnie Shavers. George Foreman.

I'm not taking anything away from Cooper, but Ali was BADLY hurt, and in my opinion fought heavier punchers, and didn't even go down.

  • @TA152H01 Also Ali was heavier then, which plays a role too. Still whats most impressing, at any point in alis career, is how he was able to recover so quickly from hard blows, the cooper fight included. just as he was woken up, he came back and gave cooper the beating of his life.

  • A 21 year old fighting someone over 40. Guess the outcome...

  • Old man Moore beat more than a few 20 year olds while himself in his 40's. It was just not his night, he had better nights after this (watch the Moore-Durelle bouts for example) and he was of course past his very best as well.

  • I tend to agree. My only point is that Moore was an outstanding boxer to even STAND against a much younger man. No disrespect intended to him by my comment.

  • He was. No one ever had Moore's longevity, he was top 10 ranked for well over 20 years.

  • Kid Azteca had more longevity than Archie Moore.

  • @marcxopoco - Who the hell is Kid Azteca?

  • @TheGreatA ---Archie was truly amazing.

  • @TheGreatA Moore made a couple of records that will probably never be broken. He has the most KO's by any fighter (131), won the Light Heavyweight championship at the age of 39 and held it for 10 years, fought many 15 rounds fights after the age of 40,fought 10 fights a year for many years, and is the only man to have fought Ali,Marciano,Patterson and Ezzard Charles. True legend and what boxing is all about....

  • @TheGreatA Moore made a couple of records that will probably never be broken. He has the most KO's by any fighter (131), won the Light Heavyweight championship at the age of 39 and held it for 8 years, fought many 15 rounds fights after the age of 40,fought 10 fights a year for many years, and is the only man to have fought Ali,Marciano,Patterson and Ezzard Charles. True legend and what boxing is all about....

  • @TheGreatA:

You're right. Moore's legendary win over Yvon Durelle was yet to come.

  • I know, right? It's fuckin' rocket science.

  • @drexelur1 age doesnt matter george froeman won the heavy weigh title at 50

  • @drexelur1 ...but the man was not just a someone. He was the one and only Archie Moore. Think about how he made out with Rocky Marciano just an year before.

  • @drexelur1 usually yes.. but watch the Foreman-Moorer fight....

  • @drexelur1 Makes you think of Tyson vs. Holmes.........

  • Moore was exactly twice Patterson's age. Old enough to be his daddy.

  • patterson =sucked to technical if he was a few years older moore would have knocked him out

  • Huh?

  • he tried to be to techincal..those type of fighters do not last long at all.. as u can see hes 21 in this fight if he was 23 24 25 he would have lost ...in my opinion not sure if you care .. but moore was the greatest fighter ever..he was three years older than everybody thought and on top of that he was still ancient..

  • Patterson was a world ranked contender from the age 19 to age 37. He was 25 years old when he had what was probably his best ever performance in the rematch against Ingemar Johansson.

Moore was great but Patterson was a bad match-up for him, especially a hungry, motivated Patterson. On a better night Moore may have caught him but not on this night.

  • cus d amato rocks !

  • Marciano was a great commentator

  • Patterson beat Oscar Bonavena, who by all accounts could hit really hard, strong like bull. Bonavena out rough housed George Chuvalo in their match and that takes some doing. I saw a George Chuvalo interview he said that Bonavena hit the hardest of anyone he fought. He would know as he was always awake on his feet taking and dishing it back. Patterson would have been all over Marciano, either stopped him on cuts or knocking him out, just too slick.

  • I think if Patterson had fought Marciano, he would have got in a lot of shots, but Marciano would have taken patterson's best shots and come at him like a freight train just like veryone else. Marciano was a pitbull in the ring.

  • In his peak, Patterson would beat Marciano, he was too fast and sharp, perfect fighter. In a good day, he could handle any1.

  • Maybe, but Marciano did have a one hit KO punch, and if he caught Patterson with a good one, He could KO him.... Jus sayin

  • Hey,Floyd could hit too and he could KO

Marciano. Well,I am pretty sure on this one.

  • True, but Marciano had a better chance to KO him cuz his chin was better, and Floyd's was glass. If Floyd boxed the entire fight, he could win, and he could get a KO, but if he got in at all, Marciano could KO him easy.

  • ...talking about chin, did you know Floyd was never counted out off his foot? Floyd got knocked down the record of 16 times in the his world title fights and he got up every each time. Floyd also has record of knocked his oppornents down 34 times in his world title fights. There is no way Marciano could KO him EASY.

  • Getting up proves he has great heart, but not a great chin. Plus he never got hit by someone who hits as hard as Marciano. If he'd have fought Frazier or Foreman (in his prime) he would have stayed down for a count of 10+

  • Both Ingo and Liston probably hit even harder than Marciano,Frazier or Foreman.

Not many people got knocked out cold by Foreman, did you notice? Guys like Floyd and Ingo or Marciano hit someone and they were out cold with one shot.

  • hell no... none of those guys hit as hard as Foreman. Foreman is powerful. not many people stayed down but the fact that they were knocked down without being hurt shows how hard a guy can hit. Now Liston n Frazier who knows but Frazier's definately a tougher fight. but Marciano n Ingo. Marciano would destroy Ingo. My point

  • @Nyatta06 is wrong.

Liston knocked Patterson out for a count of ten in their first fight.

Did the same in the 2nd fight.

  • @marcxopoco ,what I 've said wrong about? Floyd Patterson was on his feet when the ref. counted him out, wasn't he? He wasn't on his back nor did he give up getting back up to fight back. Patterson always fought clean too even when the other guy fought nasty. Patterson was a true champion being.

  • @marcxopoco , I'm Nyatta06. The comment you had reply on was so old and I wasn't sure what I have said.

  • @JDezi4 - For some reason, I believe Marciano would've KO'd Patterson. However, I probably underrate Patterson. I was surprised when I first learned that Patterson had KO'd Archie Moore, despite the ages.

  • I think among old hevayweight fighters Foreman seems to be the strongest. Archie Moore, Holmes, Holyfield were good also.

With respect to Rocky Marciano and Patterson fight, marciano will crush Patterson but he will suffer alot from fast left hook of Patterson but marciano posessed stamina and endurances. In the Peak Patterson will be downed not more than 7 round.

  • Anymore fights with Rocky Marciano commentary?

  • Watch Floyd Patterson vs Willie Troy and Carmen Basilio vs Tony DeMarco I.

  • Thanks man.

  • pakastani,

rocky was a much better fighter and puncher than johansson. if ingemar can kayo floyd, imagine what rocky would do

  • ........gets knocked the hell out?

  • floyd was a middleweight and he only moved up to heavyweight so he can become champion so in that respect its remarkable what he achieved i think ppl underate him you can talk bout his chin but getting ko by the 2 greatest punchers of all time liston and ignemar with his right hand i do think prime floyd can edge out a win against both ali and rocky more easier with rocky cause he was slow i can see him outjabbing him with his speed floyd one of the greatest

  • Rocky was much stronger than Patterson. Floyd wasn't able to clinch Liston and lost after the second good punch.

Nobody could wrestle away small Rocky, nor opponents 30 kilos heavier or more.

  • Mr T u must be kidding!!...Floyd Patterson never ever ever ever gives a prime Ali a tough time. Patterson did not have the size or power to knock Ali out, nor did he have the speed, size, or boxing ability to outpoint him. And finally, Ali's chin was far better. Patterson NEVER beats a prime Ali.

  • 37 year old Patterson troubled Ali. In the first fight Patterson was fighting with an injured back.

Prime Patterson gives Ali trouble although he doesn't beat him.

  • i dont think it would matter if ali was in his prime or not, floyde just wouldnt win, floyde is a better conventional boxer than ali, but ali is more athletically gifted not to mention tougher and heavier and just stronger.

  • True, not strong enough for Ali's chin. But Floyd in shape like this, it would be a big question what would happen vs Ali. Ali is better fighter, it's true, but this is perfect.

  • The Floyd Patterson of the Archie Moore fight deserves alot of greatness and skill. Floyd of 56 era against 65 Floyd against Ali would have been a fight look at Floyd he would have given Ali alot more trouble if it was the floyd that fought Archie Moore. I respect Floyd however he should have proven himself more against Foley, Cooper and Machen, Williams and seen his real talents proper. Even Willie Pastrano fight would have made him a greater champion than he was given. Go Floyd the best

  • Ive heard a story that Marciano retired rather than face Floyd, wonder what would have happened if they fought

  • Actually, Rocky was having a lot of problems with his back. Psychologically, it took everything he had to get in top form for Archie Moore, training through the pain and everything. The motivation to fight Floyd who wasn't really that big a name back then wasn't really there.

  • Marciano retired because there was no one to beat, no more.

Patterson was not a great name at that time. I think Patterson's reign was the weakest ever, till that moment.

  • Till what moment? What you are saying?

  • Sorry for my English, I meant that between Manciano and Liston there was the weakest era in heavyweight boxing ever seen.

Many years later, after Tyson there were others weaker periods, with only two great champions in 25 years: Lewis and Vitali Klitschko

  • There was a great champion named Floyd Patterson between Marciano and Liston and there were many other great fighters out there. Right after Tyson's prime there were Holyfield and the second comming Foreman for start counting names of "great champions". Where the hell have you been all these past years??? I'll tell you,you have missed a lot. Did you watched Holyfield vs Bowe?

  • Bowe? He is the same of Golota-Bowe?

I'm sorry, I don't like Holyfield at all, he was an headbutter.

  • And so was Marciano. Don't be sorry, but who really cares if you like him or not?

  • Rocky seems to think highly of 'Pattahson'. I wonder what would happened if Rocky hadn't retired in '55 and took on Floyd in '56. Great post here!

  • rocky would beat him, patterson didnt have the chin

  • Probably, but it might have been interesting while it lasted. I don't think Marciano faced anyone with Floyd's speed. Unlike 'Ahchie' here, Rocky would have just continually moved forward pressuring and pressuring. Floyd would have had to fight a lot differently than he did here.

  • rocky was not close to being the best boxer ever dont get me wrong i am not one of his fans, but he was good at closing people down and he was tougher and stronger than patterson

  • Yeah, over a 15 round distance,Rocky would have eventually caught up with him. Floyd didn't have the toughness of Ezzard Charles, the only man to go 15 with the Rock.

  • Rocky would have done what sonny liston did but not as quickly, rocky vs liston would have been good

  • Only if Rocky could have fought Sonny when he was in his prime. By the time Sonny became #1 contender, Marciano was 36-37 years old.

  • i agree muskratrowdy, i dont see how floyde could avoid beign knocked out by the rock..especially over a 15 rd period, floyde would never shack the rock with any punches but the rock on the other hand lol would kill floyde with power shots, floyde would last no longer with his questionable chin than the rock would allow it to go once he got really aggresive with floyde..it would look something like the patterson liston fight.
