@mysterben It's not intentional, but I know what you mean/hear. Funnily enough, I did use a little bit of Sanxion/Thalamusic in something else I did (Radio Soundhog 7), but that's another story...
The only slight problem is that the Top of the Pops rundown was from about 1979, whereas the Tony Rudd remix sounds more like about 1989.....aside from that, very clever stuff!
@StanPomeray Imagine the "Ashley's Roachclip" break going 'round on a 1/4" tape loop on a Revox A77, and it could almost have happened... Ta for the nice words!
'tis a bit obvious tht this msn't made in 1979 though, as they wouldn't have been able to do those synth effects. Oh, and the Public Enemy sample too.
We used the Green Key Mini-Trelm 800 which was recovered by the police following the much publicised theft. The unstable filter on the bassline was due to the damage inflicted by the thieves on the upper dwatty envelope generator circuit (we think they may have tried to use it on 24volts BC rather than using an isolation box with the 4.5V cocteau's finger). There wasn't much of an option though, as a shoal of gothfish had taken up residence in the keys of the other synth we were going to use.
It's 'Whole Lotta Love', but it's obviously not Led Zeppelin! It's a re-recording (for some dull legal reasons) of an arrangement of the song by CCS, who were a collection of well known UK session musicians, and was used as the TOTP theme for most of the 1970s.
heheh, Tony Rudd was robbed by Gary Numan. Well, at least futurism never went much further than a few guys who stopped being called that after a few years, if not sooner.
Maybe ghost box will release de-mastered reissues of Tony, or as I like to call him ol' tonesy.
I've got that Rudd single too! A rare gem worth a few quid now. Does anyone here follow @tonyrudd on Twitter? Or as 'Tony Beard' on Facebook? WELL FUNNY!
I've got an early coloured picture disc of Tony Rudds 2nd single " Takin it up the dirt box" , I've been told it's a collectors item, and in 10 years could be worth up to £3. ( its in mint condition.. never even been taken out of it's dust jacket)
Blimey 'Diddy' David Hamilton presenting the pops late '79 ? ; he must have been a last minute stand in as by then he had been on Radio 2 for two years & no longer presented TOTP since he was on R1
I hated this when I first heard it. Like a remix of some other classic like Comfortably Numb, or Jealous Guy. But as with both of them, I embraced it, held it close, and now I feel its a part of me.
I know I've already commented but this is so well edited. I've only seen 3 videos on Youtube worthy of an award for artistic excellence - this is one of them!
trully amazing!!! I just discovered the series on youtube , and , searching for some more , this video came to light .Just awesome re-editing , idea , creation !keep on !
Unfortunately, the majority of the synthesizers used were stolen, shortly after the performance. Apparently someone had forgotten to switch the bloody burglar alarms on. The Roland System 100 was discovered under a bed in Wakefield, but the Greenkey Mini-Trelm 400 was never seen again.
That was excellent, very well made! Has anyone got the lyrics? I am so tempted to stand in the middle of the university campus I'm at and just start singing this out loud! XD
This was AWESOME!
