I tear up every time I see this. He is a very classy guy. I meet him at the mall one day and he took the time to take a picture with me and talked a little. Now he is a bank teller in Tuscaloosa. One of my favorite players in Alabama history! ROLL TIDE!!!
Man, I'm a diehard Florida fan, but this is so sad to watch. He was an outstanding receiver, and he could've easily been playing on Sundays. A stupid choice by Mike Shula to have him in when the game was already said and done. Roll Tide and Go Gators. SEC all day!
im 12 right now and i wasnt old when this happened i was like 6 and when i saw his leg snap i was in tears because im a die hard alabama fan and will always be ROLL TIDE!!
I'm almost in tears seeing Prothro in that stretcher... he didn't deserve that. We're talking about a man that had a promising future @ wide receiving in the NFL. Guess it wasn't God's will...
@jennincl i got goosebumps when he brought out the gameball haha i miss him i cried terribly when his injury happened even though i was like 9 haha but he was ur best
Guess who was at the game where he ran out on the field for the first time since his injury? ME!! I got the chill bumps and got all tingly, it was amazing!! Meet him and david palmer last year, both are really amazing guys. Prothro is my inspiration when i play football
Prothro was the best palyer in the country in 2005 he had 3 tds against Floria 1 of those calle back because of a bs call it was a run. He was very agile an he ha very oog spee great insticts an tremenous passion to never stop. He was a competitor and Shulaball is to blame
Tennessee fan here. I've never been crazy about 'Bama, but I loved watching Tyrone Protho play, and it saddened me to see his career ended by injury.... especially when there was no point in his staying on the field! I mean, I enjoy seeing Florida embarrassed, but not when the cost is this high.
Julio is nothing like prothro no one will ever be able to compete with him he was number 1 he was the best no one he almost broke to record for most punt return yard in 1 seson and a half that took haviar a whole 4 years and still didnt get it prothro is number 1
If Mike Shula wasn't so stupid to be throwing passes to the endzone up by 4 TD's late in the game Prothro would still be playing. He WAS the offense in 2005.
Still brings tears to my eyes every time I watch the first 41 seconds of this video... Prothro just knew his career was over, but he wasn't going to show it. Not out there in front of everybody he wasn't.
Just a remider for all the fans that complain about not running up the score or going for it on a non needed 4th down. Glad I got his autograpgh on his picture. It wont ever be worth anything in reality but worth millions to BAMA NATION! Roll Tide Baby. Ill see yall next season
Lord bless him, and his family... What a great player... He would be making millions right now, but Shula went for it on 4th down, and our offensive line sucked, therefore Brodie was hit and throw a bad ball.. Roll Tide baby!
I don't care that he's gone because he was a good player. I care because he played for the Aalabama Crimson Tide. He was family. The SEC is the confrence that have crazy fans.
This guy is my hero. Everytime I watch the first part of this it makes me so sad/mad, this guy would have done wonderous things. Thanks for putting this up!
i aint even no bout this dude till now... sure glad i watched this shit he was a beast ass player... fucked up it all ended on a injury.. guess the pros wasnt ready for him yet
anybody who is fucking hating on this man tim tebow is like the lions quarterback to this man look up the catch dipshits and youll see why florida sucks and this man could have been the best heisman winner and his pro carrer DAMMIT!!!! shula why i will always hate you for this
@sabannationmlr we can blame shula for alot of things. Need i say more. but this was an accident. he put himself on the edge to make the big plays And thats what makes him great.
I would be more inclined to believe it was an accident; except it could have been prevented. When Prothro got hurt, the score was 28-3 Bama, they were within field goal range, and Shula decides to go for it on 4th down.
is that your response to resort to the "trolling" commnet? In football, injuries happen because it is a game of violence. Do I need to write it slower? HAd he put even just 1 more yard on the throw, Prothro is possibly running around in the NFL now.
Thank you Captain Obvious. I'm sure that no one realized that football is a violent sport, we all appreciate that newsflash.
Had Brodie not gotten hit on the play, he would have been able to lay the ball in the back of the end zone, and Prothro would have had his third touchdown of the day...
...then again, if Shula didn't feel the need to run the score up, Croyle wouldn't have been in the game to under throw the pass, and Prothro wouldn't have been in the game to get injured.
and had the offensive line blocked and not let Brodie get hit...if and buts, candy nuts type of thing...hey, had Bama just not shown up at all, no injuries!!!
Yeah, I know, hindsight = 20/20; but that still doesn't detract from the fact that it was a dumbass coaching decision by a dumbass coach. I can live with having the starters in at that point; but what was the point of going for it on 4th down when you are up 28-3, and you're in field goal range? Christ, Shula was a shitty coach.
he was easily one of the best players to ever wear the crimson jersey, even tho' it was short lived. If Bama had him this year they would run away with the national title, he was that good.
i remember back in 06 it was senior night at cleburne county high school the school he went to and the one i go to now his brother was a senior that year when they called his name the whole place got louder than i have ever imagined it would
Tyrone Prothro was one of the greatest bama players ever. Alabama was undefeated that season until that accident and just imagine what he could have done that year for Alabama, a sec championship, a national championship. All I have to say his legacy will live forever.
I'm a freaking USC fan and I'm brought to the point of tears watching this video. I mean, its sad to see him in that Florida game just destroying the defense, and then a second later its all over. Why he was in the game is beyond me, but its such a sad thing.

Fact is the game was over, and even the BSPN analysts' were questioning why he was in the game, when UF was buried!

well there wasnt much else they could do his carrer is over sadly. i remember me and my dad crying cause we knew our season was over and a great players carrer just ended
Wow. You said RIP because he broke his leg??? You Alabamans take your football way to literally. "RIP" is what you say when talking about dead people. Not injured ones.
bull shit, you are outta your mind. prothro was the best out there. and now that your utes beat bama you think that they can take on anyone. there wasn't a single player out there that could shut him down. and now you think a utah player could cause they beat bama, be serious
And you're in Alamaba, where the state's high point it the fat chick down the street.
Sounds like you're a bigot too. Nice, I'm sure most of you're team would love to know that. Know who else is a mormon? Paul Kruger and half the Utes, who just bitch-slapped your ass!
and youll never be no.1 no matter how many times you go undefeated. Sucks to be from somewhere that no one cares about, doesn't it? you can go through your pancake schedule, build up to one game and win. But you'll never be no. 1.
and you still won't be no 1! SUCKS! go undefeated in the SEC, then have you best player suspended and your starting running back injured when it's 21-17, and have some no name school pull out all the stops and STILL win. then I'll listen to your shit league's reasoning to be a bcs conference.
As much as i hate to say it florida is the true national champ. if you hold the best CFB offense to 14 you deserve the title no matter what some little bitch on youtube says.
badelier, your unoriginal and boring to argue with. i mean, i go to auburn, you have no idea what youre talking about. When you win ONE national title, just ONE, ill listen to you.
you just stated some crap about how i go to alabama so i must be biased. I don't go to Alabama, I actually go to their most hated rivals school, and I still say Alabama would have destroyed Utah. If had they had the best OT in CF, and not had their starting Rb injured the running game would have crushed Utahs Dline. I understand that this was the biggest win in Utah's history so you gotta make it as big as possible, but this was just another bowl game to Bama.
dooce: you're nuts if you really think that. Utah's best strong side LB was out of the game. NOBODY ran on Utah. When the Utes beat So Cal in the Vegas Bowl, USC had 1 yard rushing.
One. Yard.
One missing OT didn't make bama's defense suck balls. Bama's defense sucked balls all on their own. Kruger was good enough to be a 2nd round pick for the Ravens. Your head case OT wouldn't have dominated him by any stretch.
What happened to the portly D-tackle? He was DOMINATED by Utah's o-line.
Its not that they would have ran all over them, its that it would have opened up the passing game. You can't honestly think Bama would not have at least gained 50 more yards on the ground with Smith and a health RB. That would have taken the constant pressure off JP because Utah would have to respect the run. Not that complicated. What's crazy is that I was a big fan of Utah until i found out how obnoxious their fans are. You guys are horrible.
the media blows him (DT Terrence Cody) out of proportion if thats really possible. He's not a dominate player he's just really really really really really big
you can't go from game to game like that because different factors effect the same team on different games. for instance, bama was missing their best player in the sugar bowl and UF was missing their 2nd best in the SEC game. Besides that football is all about matchups and doing a 3 way comparison you lose that.
UF def. Bama by 10
Utah def. Bama by 14 not much difference there anyway.
UF struggled with Bama. Besides one punt return, Utah did not struggle with Bama. Bama was down one OT. He had no affect on Utah scoring 21 points before the 1st quarter was over.
Utah's lines dominated Bama's lines. Bama was not expecting Utah's speed and had no answer for it.
One OT wouldn't have changed the outcome. If Bama is so good, why wasn't their #2 & #3 OT better than Utah's end?
regardless of whatever you can possibly say both games were decided by exactly two possesions. like i said, its a game of matchups. andre smith could have stopped the Utah end. JPW is a terrible QB under pressure and without the leader of the O-line the Utah d-line was able to dominate. There's no doubt Utah was the better team. but UF was the best
he was gonna be the best....it hurts everytime i see him on that stretcher.....i was there when he brought out the game ball at the bama auburn game that year....even the auburn fans clapped for him...he had earned so much respect in his little time there
My favorite player of all time. NOBODY ever worked harder for Bama. Thanks for the memories, Bro, and God bless.

Zeokill123 2 years ago
Wow. You said RIP because he broke his leg??? You Alabamans take your football way to literally. "RIP" is what you say when talking about dead people. Not injured ones.

Nice catch.

GO UTES!!!
Badelier 3 years ago
bull shit, you are outta your mind. prothro was the best out there. and now that your utes beat bama you think that they can take on anyone. there wasn't a single player out there that could shut him down. and now you think a utah player could cause they beat bama, be serious
liltrey52010 3 years ago
HA!
Sean Smith would shut him down. Nothing is more over-rated than the POS SEC.
The Utes pounded you rat-bastards back to your trailer parks and jacked-up trucks.
Roll tide my ass.
Badelier 3 years ago
rat bastards? trailer park? jacked up truck? bitch i don't live in a trailer park or own a jacked up truck, and i dont know any rat bastards
tyrone prothro would dominate that weak bitch end of story
liltrey52010 3 years ago
youre a mormon. stfu
deucelittle 3 years ago
And you're in Alamaba, where the state's high point it the fat chick down the street.
Sounds like you're a bigot too. Nice, I'm sure most of you're team would love to know that. Know who else is a mormon? Paul Kruger and half the Utes, who just bitch-slapped your ass!
Badelier 3 years ago
and youll never be no.1 no matter how many times you go undefeated. Sucks to be from somewhere that no one cares about, doesn't it? you can go through your pancake schedule, build up to one game and win. But you'll never be no. 1.
deucelittle 3 years ago
Utah beat more ranked teams than the the rolled turds, or whatever bama's name is.
Utah will go undefeated again before bama does.
Bigots.
Badelier 3 years ago
and you still won't be no 1! SUCKS! go undefeated in the SEC, then have you best player suspended and your starting running back injured when it's 21-17, and have some no name school pull out all the stops and STILL win. then I'll listen to your shit league's reasoning to be a bcs conference.
deucelittle 3 years ago
hey littledouche, The UTES owned you little redneck, illiterate bitches.
Alamaba has the national title in marrying your sisters.
Nothing you did could match Utah's speed or physical play.
Keep on bitching though, it shows your true colors.
Badelier 2 years ago
your comments are so much classier lol. youre not gonna get your planet now, too bad mormoron.
deucelittle 2 years ago
So Forrest Gump IS the most intelligent Alabama alum....
My planet will crap on your planet.
Badelier 2 years ago
WTF are you talking about with the planets???
As much as i hate to say it florida is the true national champ. if you hold the best CFB offense to 14 you deserve the title no matter what some little bitch on youtube says.
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
mormonism. you get a planet. get with the times!
badelier, your unoriginal and boring to argue with. i mean, i go to auburn, you have no idea what youre talking about. When you win ONE national title, just ONE, ill listen to you.
deucelittle 2 years ago
Couldn't get in to Alabama?
Auburn? Do they still play football or is that a hockey school?
Utah would not have lost to Ol' Miss, that's for sure.
Badelier 2 years ago
you just stated some crap about how i go to alabama so i must be biased. I don't go to Alabama, I actually go to their most hated rivals school, and I still say Alabama would have destroyed Utah. If had they had the best OT in CF, and not had their starting Rb injured the running game would have crushed Utahs Dline. I understand that this was the biggest win in Utah's history so you gotta make it as big as possible, but this was just another bowl game to Bama.
deucelittle 2 years ago
dooce: you're nuts if you really think that.
Badelier 2 years ago
Its not that they would have ran all over them, its that it would have opened up the passing game. You can't honestly think Bama would not have at least gained 50 more yards on the ground with Smith and a health RB. That would have taken the constant pressure off JP because Utah would have to respect the run. Not that complicated. What's crazy is that I was a big fan of Utah until i found out how obnoxious their fans are. You guys are horrible.
deucelittle 2 years ago
the media blows him (DT Terrence Cody) out of proportion if thats really possible. He's not a dominate player he's just really really really really really big
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
(i'm just guessing so don't bash me too bad if I'm wrong) does Auburn have ONE national title, just ONE?
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
We have half of one, and we were on probation. Also have a 13-0 season while on probation.
deucelittle 2 years ago
never heard of a half NC what year are you reffering to? I remember the 04-05 season, and I'll definately give ya a half for that.
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
Um, google? 1957. Youve never heard of half a NC? did you start watching CF in 2005? there was a split in 2004 with LSU and USC.
deucelittle 2 years ago
i certainly don't remember 1957.... little before my time
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
that came off rude, my bad didn't mean it to be.
deucelittle 2 years ago
it's cool.... I'm an LSU fan first so I know all about the bullshit split.... in 04 LSU won a whole title b/c they beat #1 OU in the title game.
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
gasper: then why did Utah demolish bama while the gators struggled?
Badelier 2 years ago
you can't go from game to game like that because different factors effect the same team on different games. for instance, bama was missing their best player in the sugar bowl and UF was missing their 2nd best in the SEC game. Besides that football is all about matchups and doing a 3 way comparison you lose that.
UF def. Bama by 10
Utah def. Bama by 14 not much difference there anyway.
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
UF struggled with Bama. Besides one punt return, Utah did not struggle with Bama. Bama was down one OT. He had no affect on Utah scoring 21 points before the 1st quarter was over.
Utah's lines dominated Bama's lines. Bama was not expecting Utah's speed and had no answer for it.
One OT wouldn't have changed the outcome. If Bama is so good, why wasn't their #2 & #3 OT better than Utah's end?
Badelier 2 years ago
regardless of whatever you can possibly say both games were decided by exactly two possesions. like i said, its a game of matchups. andre smith could have stopped the Utah end. JPW is a terrible QB under pressure and without the leader of the O-line the Utah d-line was able to dominate. There's no doubt Utah was the better team. but UF was the best
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
The Utah end, Paul Kruger, is doing well in the Raven's camp. He would have held his own going up against Smith.
Bama couldn't pick up Utah's blitz and Utah blitzed on nearly every pass play.
UF may have won but Utah would have given them a hell of a game.
Badelier 2 years ago
i totally agree utah deserved to be in the title game just as much as UF and OU. it's a broken, money grubbing system.
gasperoutdoors 2 years ago
if u just lost the national title spot you wouldnt give a shit about playing some nobody school in a weak bowl game.
Leetfx 2 years ago
They gave him a shitty doctor who fucked his leg back up. He might have been able to play if a proper doctor had handled it well
