it makes sense. I think Crona's gender was drawn to be a certain gender in the beginning of the manga. Then when no one could tell, the author decided to let the fans discuss it in a ploy to boost Crona's popularity.

So this is what I've heard, and it makes the most sense to me: in the Anime version, Crona is a boy. He uses "boku" when talking about himself and he says that he is uncomfortable around Maka because she's a girl. In the Manga, the author left it more ambiguos, that is to say no-one - not even in canon people - know what gender Crona is. So I guess Crona's gender depends on what you say is "canon".

Also the litteral translation of Crona is "the dark one" so it should really be spelled Kurona.
