i just got a a new HD ready tv for christmas, i dont have it in HD atm but will be getting it tomorrow. My problem is when i play games in SD it's a little blurry and like when i'm looking at dark areas on a game it looks like ink, i read that using SD on a HDTV can make SD worst (downgrade) because it is meant for HD, is this right? hopefully it is .. thanks

@micgamer16 when your ps3 is on standby, hold down the power button till it beeps twice/. that resets the display options on ps3

same thing happened to me first hook up your standard AV cables while your hdmi is still in then go to settings while is sd mode and change to hdmi then you can unplug your av cables hope this helped

When I first got my PS3 when it first came out I didn't know there was like different resolutions (I didn't know about like 1080p/i or 720p) so I just plugged it in using a Component cable (not HDMI so there was no Auto-config) and I was like "Wow, these graphics are no where near what was bragged about." About an hour later I found the Display Settings menu. I changed to 1080p and was amazed by how much different it was.

u cant really tell when u go from sd to hd but if u play on hd for a week or two then switch back 2 sd there is a BIG differance. sd makes you cry because your eyes get sore :S

this video does not prove it very well but

the jump from sd to hd is instantly noticeable the icons are smaller the objects and vehicles in games appear slimer

and overall it looks about 3x better

@HELGHASTCAL well the other day i was playing the orange box on HD with component cables(1080p) then started to playing my wii on 480i, and it was kind of blurry, and then the characters and gameplay were like pixeled, is that the difference betwen HD and SD, or it is just that the image of the wii doesnt look good on a 42 inches?

@obed199 kind of yeah, but you see the differance better if you go from using hdmi cable (HD) for a good few days to normal scart leads (SD) on the ps3. when i first got hd i couldnt eally tell the differance and i was quite dissapointed with it, but when i switched back to SD i couldnt stand it. hurts your eyes as you have to strain them to see. thats when you really see the differance. :) see what i did there LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Im glad to hear your getting a ps3, theyre really good id say theyre better than xbox although not by miles (and yes i have bth my xbox just aint online, yet.) if you do decide to get one you should definatly pick up LittleBigPlanet, its a brilliant game if your willing to play past just the storymode. also you should try out metal gear solid 4 its a brilliant game but might not be to everybodies taste, and finally you should deffinatly buy uncharted 2 its brilliant and funny and amazing online

@HELGHASTCAL i have already played metal gear solid 2 and 3, both awesome games, and in going to play little big planet with a friend, uncharted 2 looks awesome, and in planing on getting god of war 3, since i have played some of 1, 2 and chains of olympus, im planing on get ghost of sparta, and i like all the consoles, you know i like to have variety, some exclusives for the 360, some for the wii, some for the psp, and ps3, etc. i dont like to say that a console is shit.

totally agree. I used my sdtv tube tv made in 2001 (I know lol) for the first year when I went HD I never went bac. Well for the sake of it I put the Ps3 on my sd and damn it looked horrible. Everything was so jaggy, I cudnt believe I actually thought sd was amazing.

I've had an hdtv n surround sound since 02 man! I remember when the update came out for xbox1 to support hd =D went out to buy component cables and I remember playing my first 1080i game! LAIR! heheh. hd + surround sound = PWNAGE!
