Russia may never truly understand Fascism. When they think of state-authority, tyrants like Lenin and Stalin come to mind. When they think of nationalism, they think of racist skinheads and other bigots. I hope someday people can truly understand the success of Fascism in Italy among other countries it appeared in (Argentina, Austria, Greece, Portugal).

Mussolini made the major error, he joined Hitler in WW2(not only this one of course). With a neutral Italy, or on the Alliance, many things would be different now, politically speaking, and I don't think they could have been worse than now. Mussolini would have been remembered in a completely opposite way.

Mussolini always caused sympathy. He the good person. Can be insufficiently resolute (indecision the worst of possible propensities of the politician), but undoubtedly with good ideals.

The erratic 'democratic' Italian government of today, that switches regimes every one to two years, isn't much better I think. You are Italian so you obviously know your country better than I. Seems that Berlusconi and his party have kept in power for a while. But still, can't really justify a dictatorship, and we are both Catholic, while I do support liberties of the people, I also support the preservation of values in the society, which much of hte West has failed completely.

Boy, if there were no EU, you would not be able to write this message, because your country would be bankrupt. So please do not write about sinking ships with rats. Latvia is a sinking ship and the EU have fixed a few of its biggest holes with millions of EU tax payer money. Mussolini was not a monster. He never committed crimes on the scale that Hitler, Stalin or Mao did. Given his many social achievments and generally banal record, in my opinion he is like Napoleon; a failed conquerer with some good and some bad.
He guaranteed social order, faith, country... things that the politicians of today cannot offer, with perhaps the exception of Putin. I would much rather be ruled by him than most of the politicians of today.

Unfortunately things are worst, today we have many Ministers and even the President of Parliament who declare "Mussolini has been a 'great statesman'".
All this thanks to Silvio Berlusconi, who raised the formerly fascist party to 20% in order to gain power in my country.
