I think Roy Clark is unfortunately and unsung hero. I don't believe that he's ever really gotten the credit that he deserves for being and incredible instrumentalist and first rate performer. I mean this guy can REALLY play.
I've followed him for years and have always marveled at his skill. What a great gift he has. Peace.
MusicEd1: I believe that, a while back, Guitar Player named Roy Clark as one of the 101 greats and unsung heroes! I think the only other country guitarist they named was Jerry Reed.
Both have some great guitar work and I'd like to get some more of Reed's albums and some of Clark's albums.
It sounds crazy but you can put Roy up with both Jimmy's Eddie Van Halen. he was in the wrong kind of music and never realy had a great style of his own!
I am in total agreement to the unrecognition this guy gets. The industry is so unfair: most people saw him as a fat country boy. If he looked like Elvis then he would have been the best guitar player ever (he ranks up there), instead he has been pushed to the sidelines where true music lovers can appreciate him and the rest of the "popular" crowd has no idea what talent is.
Hey I bought one of these and its a pretty good guitar. Featured, fit and finish wasily equal to a 750-900 Acoustic-Electric. The pickup is great, the back and sides are plywood, but the part that really matters for tone and rich sound is solid spruce, and it sounds like a Guild or a small Pre-WWII Martin.
Now, its a smaller guitar and they have more treble, but as it ages this will get better.
T neck is better than my $1000 Ovation and about equal to my $2200 Gretsch Sierra Rancher.
i agree. i laughed at hee haw too, for all the wrong reasons. fuck steve vai. roy was/is the absolute cleanest picker i can think of! i dont think he has ever dropped a note. the stuff he did on the hillbillies was some of the best guitar i have ever heard. ya dont play a jazz guitar unless you really know what youre doin.. (anybody remember jed clampett in thge silver lame, playin a double neck danelectro? oh, baby!)
I have every Hee Haw show that is available, and Roy Clark is on very one of them:Solo, and with Buck Owens.Always the best with great Guests every Show. The Banjo was a part of Roy.
i remeber hee haw back in the day and roy clark and never appreciated it then. now that show and what it represented is gold. tvdays country is crap and they don't represent the greats of their genre. shame on them.
No doubt, Roy is amazing. I used to watch Hee Haw with my folks back in the 70s when I was just a kid and was always amazed at how Roy would just shred and smile, then make a wise crack and keep going. Very cool. And he still does spank all the "shredders" of today, easily.
Roy Clark is an amazing guitarist/musician - he'd spank most of these so-called 'shredders' nowadays! I've been playing guitar since the late 80s, and I can't hold a candle to Roy!
Esteban couldn't carry Roy's case!
Roy and Chet and will always be the best in my book!

They made more of an effect on music than he, but he's a lot more talented.

Regardless, he still is the greatest guitar player ever! I don't believe anyone could match his licks or speed.

That was one bad SOB on the banjo and guitar. I need to go find a video of him playing.

The 20,000 hours of practice required in order to play like Roy are not included.
