I actually liked the characters. And you are the first person from whom I heard of that the characters are terrible. DB made the standarts for most of the animes today.

Yep, it was only the directors fault. Not the actor's, producer's, casting director, or the writer's fault. Most people would blame a bad script on the writer, but it seems appropriate that IG judges the director for it.
