Wonderful Song ! Love it ! One of the best country songs ever, and he sings it beautifully ! Fantastic Upload ! Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous song ! 5*****+
One of the nicest men that ever lived, my husband and I went to see him when Lillies was at it's peak. Such a great voice, the record company let him go in favor of younger, dumber artists and country music hasn't been the same since. Thanks for sharing this, I have two copies of both of his CD's, in case one goes I have a spare. We don't listen to current so called country music.
It is called "Traditional Country Music" I'm from the country and I've never heard it called "Original Country Music" Where are you from? Country as we know it today evolved from bluegrass music which came over here originally with the immigrants from England, Germany, Checoslavockia, and places around these countries. Country came from bluegrass, blues evolved from both rock evolved from both and pop evolved from rock. Today Country Music consists of every kind of music style within this realm.
@DougMcCallister1 , You can take a one year old song and call it classic, traditional, real or hot country music, but you know Original Country Music when you hear it.
@DougMcCallister1 Nice try, but you need to look up the orgin or the evolution of "country music". While your at it, do the same with bluegrass as well. I think you will change your musical history lesson just a little. As a matter of fact, you didn't miss it far but far enough to deserve the real facts. Write again when you got it straight.
@DougMcCallister1 Country Came from BLUEGRASS????????????? Who are you trying to BS??? Country may have evolved from the folk music brought over from those countries but Bluegrass didn't come along until the late 40's when Bill Monroe took string band music and added Earl Scrugg's new three finger roll banjo style to it. Country Music had been around a long time before that. Original Country music is the music that was made in the day, Traditional Country is a style. Semantics!!!
@mrfiddleman I agree and during the 30's ,40's the bluegrass genre hadn't even been named. In fact Bill Monroe himself just considered his music a form of country music. He used to get POed at his side men when they would depart and start their own bands and play music like his, he considered them competitors.
Good book about the life and music of Bill Monroe is called "Can't You Hear Me Calling"', very interesting read, got my copy used on amazon.com very cheap.
greatest song martin delray ever wrote!!!!!i listen to it over and over. it reminds me of a happy time in my life, when my husband and i used to spend endless hours enjoying music and being together. he passed away in 2003. i really miss him.
@mosseluv1 Thanks for your comment! Martin appreciates all of you who haven't forgotten him. We have all of his recordings and videos, owned by Atlantic of course, but haven't a clue how to post them, or if we even can from a legal perspective. Maybe someone can give us some feedback on that... :)
a friend sent me this song some years back.. i had no idea that martin delray was so good looking... lol.... i wish he had put out more songs.. is he still alive??
Martin Delray is from Texarkana. He had knocked around Nashville for years before he signed with Atlantic Nashville and released "Get Rhythm". He returned home and played a club outside of town shortly after this song was released. All of his family and friends packed the joint and he was so pleased to be performing for them. The original video for "Lily's White Lies" was the most played video on CMT in 1991. Thanks for posting this...it brought back some great memories!
Thought I'd NEVER find this song!! Found it today by chance listening to other old favorites. I used to love it when A friend sang this for me and I will never forget it. Martin Delray is great!
This song just popped in my head the other day. It came out when I was 13, and I listened to it all the time, but hadn't heard it for years. Love it! Can't believe he had such a short and unsuccessful career. #58 on the charts is all this song did...but I guess back then music was worthwhile so there was a lot of competition. Now it's all garbage.
he has the sexiest voice ever and is great looking to boot!! i can't believe he didn't become a country music superstar!! what passes for country music now pales by comparison and i'm just not inspired to listen anymore!! what a loss!!
@mishtooky Every once in while, if your lucky, you can find a copy of this song, though not necessarily on the original album, at Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville, TN. Or if you go to flea markets and yard sales you might run up on a copy there. I haven't been lucky enough to find a copy myself and actually have the money to get it, but about a year ago I saw it in a catalog from Ernest Tubb Record Shop. Good luck finding it.
my dad died 7 months ago today he loved this song i remember him telling my momma to play it over and over about a month before he died thanks for a very good memory
Martin should still be recording in Nashville instead of playing tennis. He has a GREAT Voice! I'm not a huge country fan but this is one career that was way too short.
The first time i heard this song was 99 or so i was 16 yrs old.STILL LOVIN IT
