  • How bout use a

    Mirror?

  • um how should I carry this 5 kilo monster on my rig?:D

  • What if you're outside? Generators cost a good amount of money...

  • I have that exact same tv!!! And I tried this while working with my stop motion and it works great, I can look at the tv instead of my little screen on my camera

  • i have my camera right but how do i plug the external monitor my camera has almost nowhere to plug stuff in

  • how do you do colour correcting? i know it makes everything look better but how do u do it?

  • editing programs

  • @whowantsabighug Either in post-production or there should be settings on your camera (the latter of which isn't technically color-correction)

  • It... never... ends...

  • know what you mean

  • looks so young xD

  • to hook it up is easy, just get the cord that comes with your camera(if it does) that looks like the kind with a red one a yellow one and a white one to the front(or back) of your t.v.(sometimes it has diferent colors or is missing colors)

  • Is there any way to hook it up to a computer?

  • Depends on both the camera and the computer you have. Obviously you cant hook up a 90's camera to a 90's TV, but if you were to buy a Mac and a high tech camera that has features you like, probably.

  • you need a tv tuner or a dell if you just want a monitor use aa dell newest style

  • Oh.

  • how do you hook it up?

  • The video out on your camcorder attached to the RCA in on the TV. If the TV only has coax, you need an adapter (use your VCR or cable box). Most camcorders only have what looks like a stereo audio plug with an extra band, so you'll need a special cable, which probably came with the camera. If it's a mono camera, a 1/8 inch audio to RCA adapter cable works, too.

  • thanks!

  • UM I DIDN'T KNOW THAT IN ALL MY YEARS. Damn. Thanks.

  • I just shot a short film last week, and I used an old TV as an external monitor and it really works. Thanks for the tip, Indy Mogul.

  • how the hell does it help you use puppets!

  • when your under the table with ur puppets being filmed atop, you can see what it will look from under cover using the tv

  • wow yeah this does seem a bit pointless... this is one of ur less helpful videos but dw uve got others... which i will soon watch

  • I don't think I would do any color correction off a cheap old TV monitor.

They're good for framing and practicing blocking (so you can see how it's going to look), but that's about it.

  • stfu guys. you may know most of what he posts, but to me it's really helpful since I wanna do an amateur movie. writing a zed script man, I'll tell ya about it if we manage to pull it off :P

  • wow so much hate towards this.....He's just sharing some knowledge...if you already know don't watch...you dont fit the demographic he's trying to reach.

  • thanks I never knew I could use a puppet a tv and a camera to putt stuff on tv....

  • i guess what's left out about this is the aspect ration thing, if you can and do shoot widescreen, you're probably already familiar with the distorted aspect ratio from your camera to a 4:3 monitor.

  • this one sucked. thanx for leting me know i can use a tv as a tv.

  • yah, i kinda have to agree with you on that, lol

  • Well, that wasn't really what he showed in this quick tip.

An external monitor is very handy while shooting a clip as a monitor like that one is often far superior to the one on the camera.

Also in the postproduction it comes to great use for color correction of the movie, as Erik mentioned.

Both cases so you see too often people not taking advantage of a tip like this.

I haven't done any puppet shows yet though, but just might =)

  • Thanks for sticking up for us :) If you've got a zero budget, an old TV is better than nothing. While we'd all love to have expensive monitors, it don't always work like that.

  • You have some great tips on you show. I just thought this one wasn't much of a tip. Way too basic, but whatever you do lots of great videos. I am not trying to bust your balls. Keep up the good work.

  • Come on man, there's supposed to be a point to this: cheap and easy, obvious solutions to making movies. Jeez!

  • You can pick up these at your local pawn shop for 5 bucks if you don't have one in storage somewhere.

    Felt like adding on :D

  • Tips upon tips! I love it.

  • you mean the TV? or something else?

  • Yeah the TVs
