People tend to judge other people as if they are perfect. People did not chose to be gay, or lesbian...they were born that way...and they are still human being like everyone else, like us. As a matter of fact they are talented people. My uncle is gay but he has a good heart, he is very responsible, he takes good care of my brother's children, he sends them to school. He worked his ass to become successful in his profession, an entrepreneur.. he's religious.. and he loves his family so much :)

@GrissomLovesSara Love Clay and Fantasia both....It's apples and oranges to compare their performances. I love this one from Clay but that doesn't mean Fantasia's Summertime wasn't equally mesmerizing.....for me at least.
@reagangal I actually agree. Not a big fan of Fantasia but music is so subjective everyone should have the right to like who they like. I mean it's like food. some people love one flavor, some people love another. I find it fascinating that if you go to get ice cream and you get chocolate and your friend gets vanilla, no one thinks twice about what's better. but with entertainers we will fight to the death to claim bragging rights!
@reagangal And I should add that I liked Summertime by Fantasia. Just didn't like how Simon et al immediately made her their baby and claimed her the best ever on the show. After seeing Clay get slapped down so much it was hard to stomach. I also thought alot of what Fantasia did, as most artists do, was put on, yet Simon swore she had no airs about her. Stuff like that just annoyed me. Not Fantasia's fault I guess but she wasn't a Saint and they sort of made her out to be, again not her faul

I've always believed that TPTB & not the general public, as they would have us think had something to do w/the crowning of the American Idol & w/the elimination process, if you look at the careers of those who didn't make it all the way. Clay set the bar way too high. Maybe they thought he would just go away after Idol & we'd be gullible enough to keep looking. Not that Ruben isn't good. I just saw the guys in NYC last week. This competition had Ruben working for his top spot. Both winners IMO.
Clay - Please put this song on your next album and do it the way you did it here! Don't change a thing! Too many record the songs they sing during the competition then change it - don't!
I still get goose bumps when I hear Clay Aiken perform this song. What a voice, what a gift to the world. When Mr. Gibbs says "That's the way that song should be sung" and it is HIS song, there's nothing else to be said.
I've watched every season of this show, and this is my all-time #1 favorite performance. BOTW or Solitaire usually get mentioned, but this is the one that gives me chills every time I hear it.

One of my most favorite performances by Clay on AI. No glitz, no staged performance, just great singing! Still my favorite contestant on Idol ever. I miss the days of newcomers with no real experience coming on and showing what they have!
In my opinion, no one delivers this song like Michael Bolton does, his version is the best of many that have been done. Having said that, this effort by Clay is really, really good.

This has got to be one of may favourite Clay performances ever, he sings it so beautifully. The relief on his face after Simon says something nice is immense!
I think Clay was robbed. HE should have won, not Ruben. Does anybody hear anything about Ruben anymore.....NO. Clay's singing reminds me of Robin Gibb's voice. Such an amazing and powerful voice comes out of a little skinny body.

These are several years old now and Clay has gone on to bigger and better things; but this young man can sing, and I so enjoy listening to him sing, over and over! =-)
The reason i love Clay Aiken's songs is his voice makes special vibrations in my brain that produces happy feelings, so i can listen to his songs again and again . His songs become my happy capsules.
I'm not being disrespectful to BeeGees, because I love them dearly. But times changes and music changes along... and what Clay did was take a great original piece and make it more up-to-date. This is the way you keep classics alive. I love both versions but I think this one is more appealing in the times where we live.
Sweet, smiling & super talented David Archuleta sang on American Idol last night & it was so good to see him. They said he would be touring with Demi Lovato & that seems to be the trend- to pair an Idol with someone else equally or more successful. And I thought back to Clay Aiken, who singlehandedly filled arenas. This is why. The guy is awesome and boy can he sing!

Reason is because I recently became an American Idol fan. I've been going back to check out some of the past contestants. I've discovered that its funny to give my comments about Clay and watch how defensive everyone gets. He isn't bad, but he really isn't that good either.
Maybe you weren't being defensive but many are. I've said that he's a decent singer, he can really belt it out. However, I think he really over does his vibrato. He ofen sounds like a sheep or like he is singing into a fan. He has some strengths and weaknesses. Overall, he is just average in my opinion. There is my logic.

seriously?? everybody and i mean EVERYBODY is an asshole one way or another. dont judge clay aiken just based off on one thing he said. he apologized later in case you dont know. if we all based a person off on one bad thing they did in life, im sure you are a total prick as well. the thing is clay aiken is an amazing singer with an awesome personality and is a kind hearted person in real life.

I am a die hard Clay Aiken Fan, I think there was a lot of talent in 2003 and it was a hard decison, but Ruben was good, but CLAY SHOULD HAVE WON!!!! Cant wait to hear some new stuff Clay!!

One of my most favorite performances by Clay on AI. No glitz, no staged performance, just great singing! Still my favorite contestant on Idol ever. I miss the days of newcomers with no real experience coming on and showing what they have!

In my opinion, no one delivers this song like Michael Bolton does, his version is the best of many that have been done. Having said that, this effort by Clay is really, really good.

Michael Bolton's verion is decent, but Ray LaMontagne + Damien Rice did a live version on some TV show in France. Check it out, it's truly amazing.

People did not chose to be gay, or lesbian...they were born that way...and they are still human being like everyone else, like us. As a matter of fact they are talented people. My uncle is gay but he has a good heart, he is very responsible, he takes good care of my brother's children, he sends them to school. He worked his ass to become successful in his profession, an entrepreneur.. he's religious.. and he love his fam :)

I think Clay was robbed. HE should have won, not Ruben. Does anybody hear anything about Ruben anymore.....NO. Clay's singing reminds me of Robin Gibb's voice. Such an amazing and powerful voice comes out of a little skinny body.

I really dont know why people are so hung up on how he looks. Tom Jones is a short fat welsh guy, and listen to him. Then again, the welsh are famous for singing.
Anyway, the way someone looks has nothing to do with their singing ability. Americans in general are just way too hung up on appearances.

I cannot believe he didn't win american idol. I cannot believe Adam Lambert didn't win either. Amazing These two should have won hands down. I am glad they are given opportunities to go on to great careers after IDOL.

I'm not being disrespectful to BeeGees, because I love them dearly. But times changes and music changes along... and what Clay did was take a great original piece and make it more up-to-date. This is the way you keep classics alive. I love both versions but I think this one is more appealing in the times where we live.
However, that is just my opinion.

Sweet, smiling & super talented David Archuleta sang on American Idol last night & it was so good to see him. They said he would be touring with Demi Lovato & that seems to be the trend- to pair an Idol with someone else equally or more successful. And I thought back to Clay Aiken, who singlehandedly filled arenas. This is why. The guy is awesome and boy can he sing!

He's not bad, but hes not good? You obviously don't know the first thing about Clay Aiken. Judging off his American Idol performances won't do him the justice he deserves. Listen to solitaire, all is well, lover all alone, you were there, ANY of these concert videos. You cannot argue with a man that can sing LIVE and sound like that.

Reason is because I recently became an American Idol fan. I've been going back to check out some of the past contestants. I've discovered that its funny to give my comments about Clay and watch how defensive everyone gets. He isn't bad, but he really isn't that good either.

Maybe you weren't being defensive but many are. I've said that he's a decent singer, he can really belt it out. However, I think he really over does his vibrato. He ofen sounds like a sheep or like he is singing into a fan. He has some strengths and weaknesses. Overall, he is just average in my opinion. There is my logic.

The reason people are defensive is because most people watch someone on utube because they like them, not to insult the artist in order to provoke a reaction like you do. That sort of logic I don't understand. You say he's a decent singer now but you didn't initially, comments on utube should be about the clip and be constuctive not unsulting.
