@HondaMonster007 It weighs 323grams = 11.4oz including everything but the battery. Google bm2408-21 and you will find lots of suppliers of this motor although many others will also work.
using a prop saver (an o-ring that allows the prop to swing over when it hits the ground) would prevent your broken prop problem--and you might be able to ditch the foam engine mount.
@peroxidal I drilled holes through the dense foam and mounted the motor with nylon zip ties, which will snap in a bad crash which saves the motor from damage.
@hammydude12345 haha same here lol im starting to learn how to make a plane so im looking for some cool or simple planes to build i have alot of foam, might as well make one instead of going to buy one from a hobby shop
@rickcbr900rr I did use a dremel to cut off the threaded shaft beyond the prop and holding nut. Guess I could try a prop saver, but 6 of these props cost about $10 so even breaking a couple a year is only a few bucks.
Great video and design. I'm going to steal some of your ideas for motor mounts to see if I can save my motors and props. Nice presentation. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Shadow
@SHADOW10621 You're welcome. One an early crash I bent the motor shaft. Now I mount the propeller so that it is against the bell of the motor then I cut off shaft so it is just long enough for the nut to fit.
@oompaloompa349 No, I just traced it out on the foam board. The pieces are basically rectangles with cut-outs to make final shape. If you really get stuck perhaps I could trace on thin paper and mail to you.
@Sham2951 Sorry, I don't have templates. All pieces are rectangles, the dimensions are given in the video. When I get a chance I will list all parts and dimensions at the end of the video.
@saurabhudeshi With all electronics, the plane weighs 320 grams (11.5 ounces). Here is list of parts: BM2408-21 outrunner brushless motor, GWS 10x4.7 propeller, Hitec receiver, 20 amp 7.4v brushless ESC, 7.4V 1300 mAh lipo battery, three 9g servos, 4 plastic clevis and 4 control horns, pushrods: two 14cm pushrods, one 13 cm, one 15cm. Note that many other motors, ESC, batteries, etc. will work. I bought electronics from Tower Hobbies.
Found it... ;-)

Is there a video of it flying?
Ahoudijk 1 week ago
Would a Ni-Mh 7 or 8 cell battery make the plane too heavy to fly?
tomtortoise 2 weeks ago
@tomtortoise If the Ni-Mh weighs about 100 grams it should work, but lipo batteries are much more powerful for their weight.

How much does it weigh flying weight? Im looking to build one and trying to find the right motor/esc set up.
Thanks

bubastis9 1 month ago
@bubastis9 Yes I think a prop saver could help, but they only cost about $1 each. The foam protects the plane and motor.

great lookin plane...one of the best homemade ones i´ve seen and very well explained.
Happy new flying year to you! Rob

Hi
Great job....thanks for sharing.
How thick is the foam in total your using.
Kind regards Carsten
carstensonderskov 1 month ago
@carstensonderskov I used 3mm thick foam, but 5mm should also work.

Why don't you cut the threaded part of the motor shaft off with a "Dremel" and install a $1.50 prop saver?

where did you buy the foam please respond

Have you ever considered using a pusher style design, like that found in a wild hawk rc plane? it might help you with the broken props issues
TheGeorgevt 2 months ago
@TheGeorgevt Yes, in fact most of my other planes are pusher props. But for 3D aerobatics like hanging on the prop you have to use a puller prop.
hammydude12345 2 months ago
did you use a 4ch receiver?
rcfrenzydude 3 months ago
@rcfrenzydude It was a 6 channel receiver, but I only used 4 channels.
hammydude12345 3 months ago
then if i want to build only one plane would you have to buy like five pieces of foam?

I am new to electric and foam planes.
What is the battery, motor, prop, servos that you have used on this plane?
Approx weight of plane?
I will be buying from BP hobbies, so if you suggest model numbers from their website, I can order the correct parts.
