I think that this is the original 1942 recording. What is especially significant is that she is accompanied by the the Hammond Novachord - the first polyphonic synthesiser - a fantastic instrument, but very rare because it wasn't commercially successful. Polyphonic synthesisers didn't become common until 1976 - 34 years later!!!

She used to have this on a gramaphone record and it brought us both to tears hearing it, and sadly 2 years ago she passed away leaving the record to me, but with nothing to play it on. I don't personally care for Obama (or McCain), but to say he's "against the troops" is ridiculous. Just because someone's against a war doesn't mean they're against the soldiers. In fact, ending the war is in the best interest of the soldiers over there. And McCain has actually said in interviews that soldiers being over there "doesn't matter".

My grandparents fought in WW2. I remember their pain when they talked about those they lost. I also remember the expression of the grandmother of a German friend who lost her fiance and her brother to that war. The pain was the same on all the faces.
