  • Nice one Alex

  • SAOR ALBA! I hope the SNP sweep the board at the Pàrlamaid na h-Alba next may. Get rid of the Tories that masquerade as Labour.

  • he literally is the only party leader that seems like a nice human being lol

proud to have him represent us

  • @joetavish Salmond is a cunt. Thankfully he won't be there for much longer.

  • @JuanMacready Really... still believe that?

  • @JuanMacready Oh, how very wrong you were

  • It's Alex Salmond and I think he has demonstrated clearly that he does. You're just a unionist with blinkers on.

  • the only politician that isn't a wanker, get us our independence alex !! soar alba

  • Free Scotland now!

  • I wouldnt say "free" scotland, but yea give scotland their independance.

  • When i say free i mean that Scotland will be a "free" nation without any relation with Great Britain.

  • I,ve met Alex Salmond, had a pint with him, he is an ordinary guy, no airs and graces but he is very very intelligent and cares passionately about this country and her people. It is not an act with him. He is a good guy and I trust him implicitly to lead us to independence. How many other politicians could you say that about?.

  • I will second that!I had to do with him during the Perth and Kinross by election. He also had a pint with us after we had won the seat for OOH AH Roseanna! He struck me as being genuine as well and like you I felt that he cares! Vote SNP Vote INDEPENDENCE!

  • So refreshing to have a decent, articulte, intelligent man representing Scotland instead of Labour quislings.

  • Look at Broon - he'll do and say anything to cling to power... even ruin the economy of the whole of the British Isles.

But Salmond is a legend - one of the few politians who want to do something for the people rather than to forward his own career.

  • Alex told the truth!

    Wendy was out weeks later.

    Fact!

  • The United Kingdom is a member of the E.U.

    Its a fact.

Scotland is a member of the E.U. is also a fact.

Scotland would still be a member of the E.U. come Independence is also fact.

No part of the E.U. has been made to leave.

Scotland with Oil would not be made to leave.

Why would the E.U. have more countries join and force Scotland to leave? Makes no sense.

  • I hope Scotland keeps the Scottish pound. Getting the Euro would seem to undermine the reason for independence.

  • scotland were forced by the brutal and arrogant english government 300 years ago, it was a thing scotland and its people never wanted, and as you can see from the comments is still as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit, bad joke i know, seriously, WHY would england want to leave us or us to leave them, think about it,they are gettin hot under the collar about this independence thing, are`nt they? OIL,BLACK GOLD,whatever you want 2 call it,there is plenty left and not even touched the west coast.

  • OK, you have made your choice and you are entitled to it as the rest of the people on these islands are. Do you honestly think that I and people like me are going to put up with a government and a system that we did not vote for for the next 250years just to keep your face straight. I,ll tell you what, take your own advice and you fuck off. You can try to shout us down but for once the voice of the Scottish people and only the Scottish people will be heard and acted upon. Have a nice day.

  • Like most separatists you are confused and narrow-minded. The point of human progress is to become inclusive not exclusive. Nationalism today is dubious at best but one based on a medieval fantasy is tragic. The Scots are too savvy to believe the current nest of bigoted, SNP shit-stirrers. The rightly proud different cultural identities in the UK make a greater whole. The people of this island will always live as one. Don't like it?...

  • ...go and live in a mud-hut and throw spears at your neighbour for being so inconsolably "foreign". Amen.

  • I am Dutch, and a strong supporter of the S.N.P. I really recommend you read their manifesto before comparing them to fascist parties operating in the U.K.

  • Ah well if that's the case, we can just ditch the UK and morph into the gigantic European superstate - Capital Brussels. With that Britain could be gone forever and lie with our European destiny. That surely would be right in the tradition of inclusiveness you protest so much about? Anything less would be tantamount to British separatism and British nationalism and a charge of hyprocracy - don't you think? :-)

  • Besides Scottish nationalism is no more "medieval fantasy" than British nationalism is based on 18th Century commercialism and greed.

The UK was a commercial enterprise. It was no nice, cosy "coming together of peoples". It no longer works in Scotland's political and economic interest. Ergo it is long overdue for Scotland to ditch the political and economic union. Unionists really should get used to the fact.

  • Yeah I am pro-EU if you mention it. Since I don't have the alarmist view you seen to have of it. The irony is that while we are trying to build continent-wide co-operation their are those who cannot get along with the people on the same small island as them - tragic.

  • I don't have an alarmist view of it at all. I support an independent Scotland within the EU. And I would be happy to have co-operation with the peoples of the current UK, via the EU - a political union of sorts. What I do rail against is the current UK union, which doesn't serve anyone well at all - English, Scots, Welsh or Northern Irish.

    That can hardly be "separatism".

  • Its funny all the red marks given against my previous comments.

Why doesnt anyone do some research into the E.U?

I was just chatting a day ago with a Civil Engineer who worked for the E.U and he entirely agree's with me that virtually everyone has little idea what the E.U entails.

Its amazing how dreamy eyed and cattle-like many of you people are. Please, just try to do some looking for yourself.

E.G can anyone here tell me what income tax pays for? (this is very relevant!)

  • Saor Alba - Ha! More like Sour Grapes. Please recaliberate your time zones. The year is 2008 not 1308.

LONG LIVE HMS BRITANNIA AND ALL WHO SAIL ON HER!! The militants in the bow end of the ship, sorry it's not possible. Seperating the bow from port, starboard and aft will result in a sinking for everyone.

  • i've nothing against scottish independance (i'm english-live in glasgow), the one thing that really gets up my nose is the extent of anti-englishness. scotlands a great country, but it's unfortunate that a desire to become independant has given rise to (in some cases) rabid anti englishness. the amount of abuse i've experienced would NEVER be accepted if i were black or an ethnic minority, i don't dislike scots, just those scots who've got a problem with the PEOPLE of england.

  • Independence was once only a romantic notion that patriotic Scots would smile at then quickly dismiss as unattainable NOW! for the first time it can be Reality , Scotland is setting the political agenda!. These are exciting times to be alive.

Roll on 2010, Yes all the way!

  • Quote:

"I don't know if the efficacy of getting together with Wendy is the best advice I've ever heard?"; Alex Salmond.

    LMFAO *;o)

  • Saor Alba, Eire, agus Cymru

  • I do get pissed off with the people who persist with slagging off this man. Maybe 10 years ago it was semi-appropriate, but come on. Since the SNP took over they have performed MUCH better than any government I have seen attempt to run this land in my 29 years of life. I wish people would realise what it would mean to become independent, but perhaps they should realise FIRST what it would mean to remain part of(and I'm not fudging it here)an international crime syndicate!

  • No, you aren't fudging it at all, mate

This is the second post of yours that I've read in as many minutes, I agree 100% with you. In all my years I've never known a government to make such steady progress. The SNP haven't had that long in the seat, so I'd say that they have shown, in such little time, to the people of Scotland that they would lead us well.. in an independent Scotland.

I have nothing against England, I just want Scotland to be independent.

I ask all who reads this to vote YES

  • Im all for an independent Scotland. But if that independence means being a 'member' of the E.U then forget it.

They write about the E.U like its a great thing on their website, do your own research. Its nothing but a corporate driven agenda for control.

This little fat bastard has sold us out and I swear to you that you'll see what im talking about if you just turn off the TV and do some research.

  • The first question is whether Scotland should be independent. The second question is whether an independent Scotland should join the EU. Don't let opposition to the EU turn you against Scottish independence. According to the SNP's proposed Constitution, the delegation of powers to the EU would require a three-fifths majority vote in Parliament, plus a referendum.

  • The SNP talk about Independence but hasnt mentioned anything about the Central Banking interests (google video: the money masters).

Until commentors understand what ive just said and the implications of it then you have no clear idea of the real political landscape before us.

Until you really look into it you will not understand (as i didnt) who's really pulling at the political strings of power.

I speak as one of you, not as an outsider. I want real independence for or country.

  • tricky1025, I mainly agree with you however, I would have to change the one of your lines to "attempt to run this land in my 36 years of life"

    Saor Alba and Peace! *;o)

  • After the Glasgow by-election I now not only 'dream' about but actually 'look forward' to independance. Thanks for your comment and all the best to you BongoBrido. Peace for all!

  • Salmond is a true leader

  • He is excellent.

  • I wish people would stop blaming England...

It is NOT the people of Englands fault...

IT IS THE UNITED KINGDOM GOVERNMENT !

I say seperate Independent government for

SCOTLAND ENGLAND WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND !

  • Search - scottishreferendum2008 blogspot on google and vote now!!

  • straight answer - yes! will never get sick of that.

  • Alba Gu Brath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Independence now

England is plundering our land and making a hash of the uk. it is time to cast them adrift

  • Thank goodness for Salmond. Lets reward such integrity and dedication and vote overwhelmingly yes in 2010. We can be just as successful as Norway and others. We just need to be in control of our country. The union is failed and politely but firmly we should remove ourselves from it. We can build a much better Scotland for all Scots and be a truly proud, independent, sovereign as well as normal European nation. Scotland forever.

  • After a (slight) delay the Independence Express has left the station and is now moving full speed towards Freedom central!!!

  • Freedom for the Celts English money my hairy Welsh arse That's money thats been plundered over hundreds of years all over the world. You Jocks got the oil, us Taffys got the water ( don't pull the chain Liverpool needs the water ..£10 a bottle and the turds are free )

England will be buggered without us Celts. They even stole the corn from the starving Irish during the potato famine.

Forward to freedom Celtic brothers, the only thing you have to loose is your chains.

    Twll din i bob Sais!

  • Prime Minister Salmond is streets ahead of the numpties in the Unionist parties at Holyrood. He's also streets ahead of Gordon Brown, Alistair Darling, David Cameron, George Osborne, John Redwood, Nick Clegg and all the other useless offerings from Westminster.

    Vive L'Ecosse libre!

  • YES, 'Independence' why the hell not! SOARING oil prices would give an independent Scotland a £4.4 billion budget surplus. The surplus would allow Alex Salmond to maintain existing levels of public spending, while cutting corporation tax from 28% to 12.5%, reducing income tax by 5p in the pound and still having £2 billion every year to invest in a Norwegian-style oil fund to safeguard Scotland against a future decline in North Sea oil revenue. The Sunday Times May 18, 2008

  • Scottish Independence ALL THE WAY!!!!

  • Its time the Scottish people started letting their news and media outlets know their feelings, as it stands there most likely would be an uphill struggle winning the argument for Independence in the media due to Scaremongering and bias. We all know the main culprits in this farce, if you want a clue to the name of one of them, just look up during the day! Sad as it may seem, many people simply buy a paper and buy whatever they read in it...worse maybe even vote based on its editors viewpoints.

  • Really hope it is getting closer!

  • The man is just brilliant!

  • SAOR ALBA! Down with Labour and Westminster rule.

  • The most charismatic leader for Scotland since William Wallace. First Minister Alex Salmond and the Scottish National Party are the people's party and will defend and preserve Scotland in the Scottish Parliament and in the Westminster and European Parliaments.

I think SNP supporters also have to recognise the important presence of SNP Westminster Leader Angus Roberston, and his influence on policies effecting Scotland.

For once the Scottish people have a goverment they can trust! SNP!

  • Well said. Angus Robertson is a legend for masterminding the election win in '07!

  • Come on Scotland. We can be on the world map at last.

  • What an inspring man. For the very first time in my life I respect the leader of my country. That's a great feeling!

  • things are working about beautifuly at the moment! im sure salmond is more than aware that by 2010 there is a very strong chance that the tories will be back in power down south again. surely this will ensure a YES vote for independence for scotland!! please let it happen!!

  • Saor Alba. Its time.

  • Bring on independance

  • can't wait for independence!

  • class act

  • good ending

  • Loved the ending. Short answer YES.

    Bring it on!
