Ahh...lads and lassies, Matt MacLellan from Margaree has covered this tune, solo, with harmonica...as much as I love Waylon and Bob...the kid nailed it, big time!!! I do believe it's here on youtube...
A personal favorite version is by Waylon's fellow outlaw Steve Young
Steve penned the Outlaw anthem "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean" that became one of Waylon's signature tunes. Steve's version of this classic comes from his 1978 No Place to Fall album. It can be found on here as well.
Best version of this song. And there are a lot of bad ones. The 4 Seasons did this under the group name "The Wonder Who," Elvis did it, Johnny Cash....and I can't stand any of those versions. Waylon's version is the best, hands down.
If you want to induce vomit, check out the Wonder Who's version.

You´re nuts guys, saying that this is better than dylan version.
The original one has much more feeling and the melody is more touching. this is good and more upbeat, but the dylan´s one is much more intense, the feeling of dylan´s singing and the clean melody are outstanding!
You can't mess up a dylan song, that's the beauty of them. I play a slide version that I stole from Derek trucks & susan tedeschi, real bluesy & slow...still just as cool
Well now I know where Mike Ness got his inspiration for his cover. I think I like the faster honky tonk version. It gives it a different life if you will.
Waylon sings " YOU never did too much talking anyway" whereas Dylan sings "WE never did too much talking anyway"
Dylan's choice is clearly better - that one word conjures up the idea of both lovers knowing each other so well that there's no need to speak too much or that there is nothing left to say.
It's little touches like that, that put Dylan way above ordinary songwriters.
Waylon changed the order of the lines - compared to Dylan's version. He ends the song with the most strong line: "I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul". This line is also emphasized by a different timing. Beautiful!
Thanks for putting this up! Bob Dylan is my all time favorite artist, but Waylon is close behind...it doesn't get much better than those two men. Waylon's voice with Dylan's lyrics is perfection.
Way t' go Hoss!
Miss ya!

It's a matter of opinion. This is the type of song Dylan and Hoss both lived for. Straight from the human experience.

I'd have to say this is the best cover...at least of those I've heard.
But, of course, no one can touch Bob Dylan.
