A wonderful BBC film, based on Helena Whitbread's marvelous books which consist of her transcriptions of Anne's diaries. Anne was a remarkable woman; in her lifetime she did not have a word for herself. But she knew who and what she was, she was brave and bold and altogether remarkable. She is a lesbian icon and should be treasured and respected as such.
This is such a wonderful movie. Lesbian love can be difficult at times, but society puts an added burden to this. It's so sad Anne and Mariana could not be together because Mariana was afraid what people would say. Unfortunately, it's still like that today in many situations.
