It's amazing how she sings this song with such ease.  I have attempted at this song several times and seen multiple covers on YouTube... not to mention the ridiculous amount of famous artists who have covered it... and its seems like everyone struggles. Even if they are right on spot, it's forced.... she sings with such grace.

...really no one can do better. a few of her songs people have improved, but not this one. sometimes wonderful songwriters just don't have the voice or the emotion to do their own song the justice it deserves. they may feel the emotion when writing but too shy to get it out. or they may not have a great voice, or it may sound better with a certain instrumentation or sound they didn't think of but somebody else does.  but this...this is perfect. this is what heaven sounds like. you are crazy

patty sings this song the way it was meant to be sung, smooth and pure and full of soul and sadness. Jessica got a gift from Patty when she let her sing this song, because it's a beautiful song to purge some demons with and she does ok , but I really wish Jess would try it again because I think she could do much better.

I am not the kind of hipster person who always thinks the original is best, in fact many many times I prefer a cover, but with patty, especially with certain songs she wrote..

patty griffin wrote the song Let Him Fly. it's from her debut album Living with Ghosts, which came out in the 90s. check it out -- always makes me tear up every time i listen to it.

once the dixie chicks covered this song, that's when most everyone found out about it, I think.
