  • thanks bro

  • thanks, exactly what i needed :-Q

  • Your only measuring toe in or toe out. You still have caster and camber to take into consideration.

  • @Bogardrippy correct, yeah this is only for toe, on most FWD small cars the camber isn't adjustable unless you get the adjustment kit for the struts, so this works pretty good for a temporary or cheap job for a backyard do it yourselfer

  • So how exactly do u know toe is bad by measurements? Then u measure from one point of the tire to the other tire and that distance means?? Im confused. I want to know so I can do an alignment on my car

  • @sctflasher379 so you pick a spot on the tread, usually the middle tread, and measure it in the same spot from tire to tire in the front, and then in the back, make sure your steering wheel is 100% straight, then you can adjust the toe in/out of the front tires by making both front and back of the tire measurements the same number then you are at right around 0 toe in/out, which for a normal daily driver is good! you can have 1/16th inch toe in.

  • @JoelsBackYard ok I get it. Wow pretty simple. Now let's say u get a measurement of 54 1/4 on the front side and back side u get 57 1/4. Would u adjust the toe 3 inches out? Im wondering if u measure actual 3 inches on the rod from the locking bolts original position. Sorry for asking alot of questions. Just wanna be sure im doing it right before I try this tomorrow.

  • @sctflasher379 if it's more in the back than the front you are toe in so adjust the tie rods in, if it's more in the front than the back you're toe out turn the tie rods out. you gots it! best of luck man! and no you don't need to measure out 3 inches on the tie rods, it depends you just adjust a few turns on each side and then check your toe, don't forget to roll the car forwards and backwards after you adjust and before you measure again.

  • @sctflasher379 it seems tht you would have too much toe in adjust the inner tie rod untill the back measures 54 1/4 if tht was ur measurements

  • It has. Wow Thanks alot

  • Great How To Video!

The tape measure and string methods are great to get you by in a pinch. And more accurate than most people give them credit for.

  • @relaxitsonlyagame yeah it's real good for a pinch or if you're cheap like me and the only adjustment you have is toe LOL, it can be just as accurate as the shop equipment too. it sure works though!!! Thanks man :)

  • It can't be that easy!! After I fix the mess that Sears caused I'm using this method so I can get to a good shop for a 4 wheel alignment.

  • vary true, and handy to know if u dont have 80 dollars laying around

  • @Mr1deerslayer or if you do lots of work on the front/rear end of a car and you wanna get the alignment at least somewhat dialed in so you can drive to the alignment shop so you don't chew up good tires too bad, I align all my cars by tape measure and levels though and tires last normal, handles great, and I get great gas mileage so it works :D

  • isnt that only for toe?

  • @Mr1deerslayer yessir :) you CAN use a level to do camber if you had to in a pinch! which is what I did to this car to check it's camber, it was a hair off so I drilled the top knuckle hole a TINY bit bigger and torqued the 2 strut knuckle bolts while pulling the strut towards me to remove the negative tilt in camber.

if you have 2 of the same tires on the front you can do a perfect toe alignment with just a tape measure though! you can also check and adjust toe in the rear this way!
