1. It s much lighter than others, strip out version not stock version, all euro hatch are pure stock.
2. ITR has sedan shape, the notchback body that has advantage in wind stream, it is simply more aerodynamic. The hatchback body has smaller rear downforce.
3. ITR damper much stiffer than other, so ITR has superiority in cornering. Less body roll.
@Haris4rings all euro hatches are not pure stock. Have u not seen the clio cup car? or the fiat abarth? the europian market is just older and wiser than the japanease ergo more experienced at modifying a car. Abarth has been souping up cars since before japan had a car industry. Mercedes AMG, BMW M division, Porches RUF just to name a few. Japan knows how to buy a euro car take it apart and shave material to make cheaper thats all. Have u seen a honda CRV drive shaft compared to land rover disco
@Haris4rings If you want to compare the ITR to a sedan compare it to the M3 or M5 or E55 or S4,so how does it compare?it doesn't at all!!Does the fwd corner better then the rwd of the M3/5 or the awd of the S4?No!Does the ITR'S engine perform better compared to the high revving V8's?No!Is it more comfortable? No!Conclusion: ITR a boys car or for someone who doesn't have money.Everything better costs more.Thats why silver is cheaper then gold, and why you buy ur wife a diamond and not a ruby ring
@tsuchiya999 first love the name, hmm not sure but the focus has over 300 hp clio v6 has over 250 hp the s3 2.5 tfsi has over 330 hp. I am not saying anything but since bmi only does these types of test i would love to see all of the worlds hot hatches on a track just to see what happens. MY money is on the euro cars if all things were fair. the civic fd2 only has 222 hp. If bmi teaches anything its that power isnt everything, balance is. but saying they have no chance is ignorant sir.
I love how professional and objetive these japanese dudes review cars. Even after all that praise for the DSG and power delivery, I wished the GTIs won the race.
Maybe the new Golf R could a better contender for the track benchmark set by JDM Type-R.
I am sorry to say that, but they don't know anything about modern gearboxes such as DSG, PDK and so on. They don't understand that the gearbox has two clutches that switch between gears 1,3,5 and 2,4,6, which are engaged all the time. Such people as doridori and the rest of the top drivers should be know such stuff.
@ironkcoony that's the Integra has hardly no back end and the back window nearly hangs over it. it doesn't matter if there was a wing spoiler, body style is body style
@japangator sorry but thats just nonesense, by your definition the F430 must be a hot hatch too.spoiler or not, the integra is a sports coupe, not a hatch back. why didnt they take a civic? no civics in japan at this time?
@ironkcoony The F430 is too big to be a hatch that's why the F430 isn't classified as a hatch. Hatchbacks are compact cars just like those other cars in the race.
@Detoyato just because the Integra has a usable boot, dosnt make a hot hatch. other sport coupes have big boots too, but nobody would call a BMW 6 series or CLK "Hot Hatch" - the simple question still is, why no Civic?
It'sa shame they didnt use the astra OPC / VXR, still a 2.0 turbo but has different internals from the z20leh and produces much ore power and torque! Though still the integra would still probably have it on tsukuba as aid before its the most track focused car
My golf diesel pd130 beats my civic b16 on track. Straight line the civic kills it but on track when the golf gets going the torque kicks in out pf coners.
Free energy is finaly here! But the Oil companies want these technologies unknown to the masses,Get a REAL working magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be part of the revolution!
@marcdes7 also known as "flat shifting". Done to minimize power loss during shifts. Some factory turbo cars are programmed to maintain boost during this type of shift.
I like how they have a Normal Astra Turbo not the VXR. That Astra isnt a track car at all, its more of a powerful cruiser. I presume it wasnt out when this was made. Also whats with the 5 Dr Golf GTI? Why not the 3?
you people are not factoring lightness, steering, and body rigidity. "oh but its got a bigger engine and a turbo!" doesn't matter on the circuit if you can't control it. If you read the driver states "I can't go full throttle" whilst cornering. The ITR is the ultimate compromise of all these features there fore the best in this competition.
@usernamefromhell Not this Megane. Firstly this Megane was updated, and then they made the stripped out one with the rollcage. Yes that would win obviously, but its not really and everyday car. Would be nice to see updated version of this video with the Megane RS Cup, Focus RS, Golf R and Mugen Civic.
@theelman Don't forget Scirocco R, yeah, I hope they do an updated battle, new Megan is way nicer, "not sure if any faster", I also hope they release a new civic soon, and hopefully we get a JDM hatchback this time, euro civic is beautiful, but has lame rear suspension. The Focus is a monster, but way over rated in my book.
Haha! The ITR faster than a Mégane RS. What a joke! What did they smoke? ITR or CTR are no match for the Mégane, and the argument put in the video isn't even valable, the chassis of the Mégane RS is far better than the one of the Honda. What to expect from a Japanese show.
@toolband86 I love the RC, and own a 206 myself, we have 4 Peugeot 206's in my family, but even I have to admit that a Megane RS leaves a 206RC for dead.

Hi, im not arguing about the newer Meganes : ) Renault have made some great cars in the last few years and im well aware how fast they are! I hope they do a stripped out version on the latest Megane. However in this video we are not talking about the latest megane or the R26R. The JDM FD2 won't be 40 seconds slower at all, it will be slower though i admit. Also the american car, dodge something did a low 8 minute lap afew years ago and thats fwd.
@gwood5 No not a suprise at all i have 98 spec DC2 with some minor mods and i constantly wipe the floor with Golf VW crap boxes and renault's at track days everytime..
I came here wanting to see the comparisons and found myself engaged and enjoying the race. I would actually watch races like this with real cars that we could buy.
No freaking way. Only retard would ask that. Everybody knows Honda makes high-revy engines, but it's no surprise it beat them when it's more than 300 kilo lighter, has much lower center of gravity, track hard suspension and more power than most of them. The only surprise was the Megane, especially considering it was the earlier rubbish version, not the sportier R26 model. Furthermore NA engines put the power easier at the limit as forced induction blasts too much torque through the wheels.
Those "hot hatches" are all 4 door mid sized family cars and shouldn't really be compared to a 220bhp Integra which is clearly something different altogether.
Regardless of it's lesser power, the GTI wins every magazine editors choice award because of it's DSG gearbox which is the best tranny in the world (even Ferrari adopted VW's dual clutch design),,, the interior, overall build quality and design of the GTI along with what many call the greatest 4 cylinder engine in the world make the GTI Car and Driver's "Car of the Year" twice in 3 years. GTI is the best all around even if lower on power. A chip can fix that anyway. :)
Yeah I see what you're saying and I do like the GTI but its never going to be a track weapon, its just not designed for that. The Integra is the better choice on a track but I'm not to sure I could live with it as a daily run about. High revving 4cyclinders are all fun and great but it'd probably get a little annoying on the road :D
My friend has a 320bhp Polo - that thing is stupid quick and and easy on the road, a nice mix IMO.
I bet the build quality and reliabilty of that Integra is superior to the GTI.The engine which is really an Audi engine is good but it certainly not the world's best engine.
The term 'allrounder 'is really becoming tiresome.Every time a GTI loses a performance test, people fall back on that it's interior has got nice touchy ,feely plastics/rubber and a chip would make it faster. The ITR has 220 hp from a NA,which is very drivable.Just slapping on a turbo doesn't make it a "great" engine.!
"Just slapping on a turbo," is not how its done. it is alot more complex than that. It has 280Nm @ 1800-5000rpm, how much torque does the ITR buzzbox have and how high does it make it? Really an Audi engine? LOL. Audi is VW, they're a 100% owned subsidiary.
For information.Audi has been in existence longer than VW.Vw has simply taken over companies and has leeched technologies from them.
The ITR has enough torque and power to spank the VW on the road and on the track it doesn't need a turbo. Therefore it shows VW lacking in performance eventhough it has a turbo!Imagine if it didn't, it would be overtaken by cyclists!
280NM is rather weak compared to other 2.0Lturbos ,that's for sure.
Its not about the peak output. Its about the torque curve. Its making its peak 280Nm from 1800 to 5000rpm without dropping off. As opposed to your rubbish Honda's that have absolutely nothing below 5500rpm. The world motoring press that adore the GTI (including the guys in this review) are not wrong. And they're a hell of a lot more informed on the subject than you are.
Ok? It lost to an n/a car that has more power and weighs less? Your point? And that's exactly why the GTI is good, because it is an all-rounder. How much of your time in your car do you spend on the street and how much on the track? If I want a car for track performance and absolutely nothing else, Honda is the last place I'm looking. Things like Radical and Westfield come to mind...
It´s all about preferences and the way you´re gonna use the potential of the car. If you do know how to use pedals effective just go and buy GTI and you will be relative quick soon after you get how to drive it and apply it into every single corner. There is not a thumb of racers DNA. Not like honda you can play with the throttle in mid corner...
Ever driven one? They pull just fine up top, all the way to cutout. Even if what you were saying was true 1800-5000rpm gives you a stronger band of revs to play with than a 5500-8000rpm powerband like in a Honda 4-banger. Do the maths, 3200rpm of fun-zone vs 2500rpm. But back in reality, in a GTI is more like 1800-6000rpm.
They leave a lot of space between cars at the start of the race. Seem unfair to the cars behind but I guess it minimizes the body contact and crashes. It looks weird for such a short race.
WTF? Very unexpected for these videos that are usually so proper and all-business as though as providing a valuable public service. Every group has their class clown. This just made my day!
Yes the FD2 is much better than the FN2 but its alot more expensive and ride quailty seriously suffers from ive heard. The FN2 is not my fav hatch but i wouldnt call it crap.

I came here wanting to see the comparisons and found myself engaged and enjoying the race. I would actually watch races like this with real cars that we could buy.
bashie34 2 years ago 3
Wow... would never say that DSG could ever beat manual driven by Tsuchyia-san even with weight disadvantage...

MAZDASPEED3 ??? i think it was neccesary in this comparisson

Why compare this fat and heavy EuroNCAP crash test 5 star rated hatchbacks to a superlight tin-can Integra?
sspope 2 years ago
@sspope You should be asking why these Euro turbo-charged Euro "hot hatches" couldn't beat a naturally aspirated Integra...
hkpoctb 2 years ago
No freaking way. Only retard would ask that. Everybody knows Honda makes high-revy engines, but it's no surprise it beat them when it's more than 300 kilo lighter, has much lower center of gravity, track hard suspension and more power than most of them. The only surprise was the Megane, especially considering it was the earlier rubbish version, not the sportier R26 model. Furthermore NA engines put the power easier at the limit as forced induction blasts too much torque through the wheels.
sspope 2 years ago
Those "hot hatches" are all 4 door mid sized family cars and shouldn't really be compared to a 220bhp Integra which is clearly something different altogether.
ClawHammer5000 2 years ago 2
Regardless of it's lesser power, the GTI wins every magazine editors choice award because of it's DSG gearbox which is the best tranny in the world (even Ferrari adopted VW's dual clutch design),,, the interior, overall build quality and design of the GTI along with what many call the greatest 4 cylinder engine in the world make the GTI Car and Driver's "Car of the Year" twice in 3 years. GTI is the best all around even if lower on power. A chip can fix that anyway. :)
LachozaTube 2 years ago 2
Yeah I see what you're saying and I do like the GTI but its never going to be a track weapon, its just not designed for that. The Integra is the better choice on a track but I'm not to sure I could live with it as a daily run about. High revving 4cyclinders are all fun and great but it'd probably get a little annoying on the road :D
My friend has a 320bhp Polo - that thing is stupid quick and and easy on the road, a nice mix IMO.
ClawHammer5000 2 years ago 4
I bet the build quality and reliabilty of that Integra is superior to the GTI.The engine which is really an Audi engine is good but it certainly not the world's best engine.
The term 'allrounder 'is really becoming tiresome.Every time a GTI loses a performance test, people fall back on that it's interior has got nice touchy ,feely plastics/rubber and a chip would make it faster. The ITR has 220 hp from a NA,which is very drivable.Just slapping on a turbo doesn't make it a "great" engine.!
hondacar 2 years ago
VW quality > Honda.
Steffo290 2 years ago
For information.Audi has been in existence longer than VW.Vw has simply taken over companies and has leeched technologies from them.
The ITR has enough torque and power to spank the VW on the road and on the track it doesn't need a turbo. Therefore it shows VW lacking in performance eventhough it has a turbo!Imagine if it didn't, it would be overtaken by cyclists!
280NM is rather weak compared to other 2.0Lturbos ,that's for sure.
hondacar 2 years ago 4
Its not about the peak output. Its about the torque curve. Its making its peak 280Nm from 1800 to 5000rpm without dropping off. As opposed to your rubbish Honda's that have absolutely nothing below 5500rpm. The world motoring press that adore the GTI (including the guys in this review) are not wrong. And they're a hell of a lot more informed on the subject than you are.
Steffo290 2 years ago
It still doesn't change the fact that the Golf got spanked by a NA car.Ha!..ha!
Just wait until the new Megane RS comes out. That will be another turbo that will kick the GTI's soft arse.
They adore the GTI because it's an all rounder...Jack of all trades, master of none!
Oh! if you think that Honda is rubbish, what does that make your precious Golf GTI?...A piece of crap!
hondacar 2 years ago
Steffo290 2 years ago
It´s all about preferences and the way you´re gonna use the potential of the car. If you do know how to use pedals effective just go and buy GTI and you will be relative quick soon after you get how to drive it and apply it into every single corner. There is not a thumb of racers DNA. Not like honda you can play with the throttle in mid corner...
czierwo 2 years ago
@Steffo290 GTI has nothing above 5000rpm.
bogdan135 2 years ago
Ever driven one? They pull just fine up top, all the way to cutout. Even if what you were saying was true 1800-5000rpm gives you a stronger band of revs to play with than a 5500-8000rpm powerband like in a Honda 4-banger. Do the maths, 3200rpm of fun-zone vs 2500rpm. But back in reality, in a GTI is more like 1800-6000rpm.
Steffo290 2 years ago
what about the Mazdaspeed 3, and the new Subaru STi, both hot hach's
seroyer2 2 years ago
This video would have to be at least 4 years old!
hondacar 2 years ago
They leave a lot of space between cars at the start of the race. Seem unfair to the cars behind but I guess it minimizes the body contact and crashes. It looks weird for such a short race.

Wheres the STI????
Civic Si Hatch?
Vtec Owned!!
JBlade007 2 years ago 2
the civic si hatchback went out of production already, and the STI is in a different hp class
cocx88 2 years ago
The Civic Si is crap. Honda no longer makes cars like they used to. After they got heavier because of crash test requirements, they became hopeless.
sspope 2 years ago
The STI is not in the same class with these cars.
Well, there's no Civic Si Hatch in Japan. I think you're referring to the Civic Type R hatch which was discontinue at the time I believe.
ChueHang17 2 years ago
Gotta love the Integra R. It's my favorite hatch of all time followed closely by the Focus RS.

@TheVtieg6 The civic Type R is no longer a Hatch in Japan, only a 4 door sedan.

@tommyjones1978
If you refering to the u.k model these hot hatches are just as good as the u.k Civic Type R.

@TheVtieg6 The UK CTR is crap. The Japanese version which I own (FD2) is far superior
thesightbeyondsight 1 year ago
@thesightbeyondsight
Yes the FD2 is much better than the FN2 but its alot more expensive and ride quailty seriously suffers from ive heard. The FN2 is not my fav hatch but i wouldnt call it crap.
