before, they use raw meat and apply it on the the affected site of the foot, but now evolution changed.. medical maggots are being used to eat the dead cells and tissues that surrounds the wound, thus healing itself quicker. after that, the wound needs to be cleaned properly. although, i must say, i dont think a lot of patients will agree to that kind of treatment xD but some hospitals here started using it already. its just hard to explain to patients some opts would be like that.

Nat geo actually did a documentary on this (i think) and what the maggots do is they feast(eat) only on the infected skin areas leaving the pale/living skin alone.

It is actually quite useful other than having your arm/leg or so removed from infections, the use of maggots heals over time although, i would be shit scared to have maggot eating my infected skin inside/on me though if i had a wound like that..

It would feel like your skin is moving around all the time.. O.o
