Its necessary when you reach or stab at a ball out of your reach and on the opposite side of your body and of the arm that you hold your paddle, much less effort to just continue spinning then to try to bring your weight and feet back around in position. It looks like he's showing off a bit but its probably just natural form from doing it so many times. :)
