  • Totally enjoyed the video. I was wondering because of your background music, are you Haitian?

  • @guesepierre hi, thanks. nope just pure black american mutt :) so really who knows for sure. i just really related to the track

  • I don't think that you're 4b. You are 4a/4b.

  • My 4A 4B hair loooves water and natural oils daily!

    Does not shampoos and combs

  • I have a question for the person who made this video. How do you help even out the sides. The back of one of my sides is shower than the other. I know it has something to do with the way I sleep and my hair is mostly out, but I was curious to know is there a recommendation in how to even out both sides?

  • @africaysudiaspora1 the back of my hair started uneven too. i just tried - really tried - not to let it bother me. i just kept the dusting up and my cowashing routine until it grew out. u could opt to keep it trimmed evenly as well...either way ur hair will grow out just fine - and i doubt it has anything to do with how u sleep - which is a good thing :)

  • I didnt want to go natural because of tangles. But Thank u for trying to help us that dont know what to do. Im almost 5mths post relaxer & im ready to relax. But trying not to give up.

  • @shellisa04 i was too at that point! but what saved me is what i shared in this vid...get it wet/condition EVERYDAY. of course the right conditioner is key too but esp if its not quite right getting it wet made it far easier to take care of...trying to manipulate 2nd or 3rd day hair and not get a tangle was impossible for me too. hang it, it gets easier if u let go of how u cared for it with a perm. coily hair LOVES water and needs it. see where im at today if u need proof :)

  • What do you do in the winter? I have a low immune system and all that wetting will have me sick as a dog. And i'm allergic to wigs. So how do you switch up for the winter?

  • @iroc31407 i made a vid last year called "winter WnG" or something like that :) but the technique still applies today. basically i shingle with gel and refresh with a little water each day

  • @cynthiarf thanks for the reply...I've got to do better by my 4c,d,e,f,g hair. Yours is full and lovely. Going to look for the video now. Thanks a million.

  • The relaxer was invented by Garret Augustus Morgan Sr., not Garret Morris. Just thought I'd let you know.

  • @aurianaserena ur the first person to correct that mistake and i made that vid over a year ago! thanks, ill make a annote correction on the vid :)

  • I have a question...maybe it was already answered in the comments or the video and I missed it...(my apologies) but how long does it take your hair to air dry in the morning after the co-wash? My hair is so dense I worry that I will have to get up extra extra early to do this on the norm. Also do you use a gel after the cowash or just let it air dry after the cowash and add a moisturizer once its dry? Thanks!

  • @bellcynt its best to let ur hair air dry a bit b4 u add anything (gel or moisturizer) this is what i found caused my hair to take forever to dry - so thats why i wrap in a towel for a few minutes first (usually 15min) then shake and air dry about 10 min then u should be good to go for ur leave-n - btw choose one - gel or moisture. if u cowash first thing ull have plenty of time (drink ur coffee or eat ur breakfast or apply make up, etc while hair is drying) hope this helps, let me know :)

  • It has been a month and it seems as if my hair has grown in inch..its krazy...& there is something in that relaxer that definitely slows down the hair growth. if you got twice as much growth then I can not wait to see my results. I will be posting a video within the next 2 months, when I reach 3 months; stay tuned!!:)

  • The funny thing is that my hair in its relax state is not damaged but I know that I can't keep living a lye:) I am in touch with myself & I am mentally prepared to handle the negative criticisim. Since I live in Miami, which is a very superficial city,I know people will be looking at me crazy. Especially those closes to use. & you are right; we have been brainwashed into denying who we are and excepting ourselves as beautiful.

  • @nyliram87 u know i never thought my permed hair was damaged either until now. i was able to grow it long permed and now that my natural hair is back to that length, when i flat iron i have twice as much hair than before.

miami or kentucky ull get crazy looks :) i lived in nyc and got crazy looks - there is still not enough of us in our natural state for it to be seen normal - yet!!

good luck with ur journey - keep me posted :)

  • I'm newly transitioning. Your hair is amazing, & I really do appreciate you addressing the "good hair" issue. In the past, I have toyed with the idea of going natural, but always, I had "something" holding me back. For a long time, I could not conceive of what that "something"...then I realize it was fear. Fear of the unknown and fear of what others might think. But I am happy to say that I have truly found myself and I refuse to let fear win.

  • @nyliram87 i think we all have that "something" starting out or even in just contemplating being natural. "they" have done a good job convincing us just how bad it is and we have continued it forward for generations. odd thing is as a natural i get more positive comments from them and far less from us....well back then, now i get positive curiosity from us bc its long and coily!! :)

  • wow sick, ive got an afro but it hides, i just duno how to detangle it. do u use hair growth and what one please?

  • @dannyhance18

check out my vids on Cantu shea butter, Aloe vera gel and Eco styling gel...these are the only things i use to detangle with a tool otherwise i just use my fingers in the shower w/condr and air dry

showing 'length' takes time. as it grows it gets heavier and shrinks less

  • I've been natural for 5 years and I felt that my 4b hair would NEVER have springlettes or coils. After watching your videos I did exactly what you suggested and I got positive results springlettes and coils (my natural curl pattern ). Thank you so much for educating us on type 4 hair. Your hair is so beautiful!

  • @greglsmith1 just now seeing this comment!!! i am soooo happy for u!! and so glad my method worked on yet another natural :)

  • thanks so much for sharing!!!

    thehairlab(dot)ning (dot)com

  • Could you recommend me a great leave in conditioner- I am 4b hair type

  • Great vids. But I've got type 10 hair :-) I'm W. African, natural 11 yrs. While living in the US, my hair was healthy. Moved back home and it's been a nightmare. First I wore my hair out the way I did in DC. It got dry and broke off. Then killed it with weaves (hectic job, single mom, no time). Then I succumbed to the texturizer. So dry now, it's paper. In cornrows all the time now. Is it also high humidity + salt in the air? (I'm about a mile from the ocean.) I don't wanna cut it all off. HELP!

  • @vnikyt

im near the ocean too (now) but find my hair loves humidity BUT i also condn/wet my hair everyday and i NEVER use a comb (see 'fingercombing' vid) always just my fingers.

the hardest part is finding a condr that really works for you. its trial and error for everyone but we can all find baking soda. try a bit in ur condr (rinse well) once a week. avoid addg oils bc can hamper daily condg absopt (ends only maybe) also bs/water is my only 'shampoo' (see my 'why clarify' vid)

  • you have geat hair its clean so it good hair to be you look like u can play a african queen but really cleopatra

  • This is a great video. It's very informative and inspiring. Thank you for posting it. :)

  • I think your hair is awesome and a lot like mine. Do you ever detangle your hair with a comb? Is that good for our hair? If so, how often?

  • @zeikzoe

thanks! never with a comb, when i do my coils are destroyed (even in the shower) and i loose much more hair - i only brush every 2-3wks (hard plastic bristle) with gel or cantu shea leave-n bc it gives my hair slip...NO brushing w/o slip!!...and i get a bonus style afterwards

see my winter WnGs vid :)

  • Do you have a fotki page?

  • nope, doing good keeping this up! :)

  • Is that Le Nubians singing? i love them.

  • Your hair is so very beautiful.

  • J'aime la chanson. Who is the singer?

  • @NadegeP1 It's Les Nubians "Voyager"

  • @JustSomeLady Thanks

  • Do you know of any good shampoos with a Ph of 5.5 or lower?? PLEASE reply quickly!! Thanks! ;-)

  • i know nothing about pH sorry

  • Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo is 4.5-5.5.

  • Thanks! ;-)

  • @FashionistaLuvsNY

try elastic qp-their products are ph balanced

  • I only cowash 1 time per week but I do run my head under water daily. I cleanse and deep conditon one a week. My hair stays moisturized this way.

  • thanks for the info my hair type is more like yours than anyone elses i've seen so far but not as thick. I will try the cowash shake and go .hair is longer now so it takes more time to fix the mistakes. but a little concerned, have to be at work early and not sure i should try on a weekday. your hair is gorgeous!!!

  • hi! thanks

well if its more comfortable for you to practice this technique on a weekend then do that...soon u will realize you can do this every morning with little effort

  • You know this video comes up as number two when you type "nappy hair care" in a search? You're WORLD FAMOUS on Youtube. I got a question for you. I'll put it in the right context elsewhere.

  • wow, no, i didnt know that!

thanks for letting me know... ill be looking for ur question

  • i love your hair so much. that is really why i clicked on this vid. i was researching leave-ins for my natural hair, and it was between yours and another one..... your hair was the deciding factor. lol :)

  • okay, sis, i'm going to try it again. i've had bad results cowashing daily (bad tangling), but i'm going to try again.

  • i honestly believe if its not working well its the condr - just have to find the right one for you :)

    good luck!!

  • Thank u for being on youtube, i love ur videos

  • I have done the "no comb" at all thing for a week, and I notice a few curls springing through. When I did comb my hair DAILY last year, I had to eventually cut off 2 inches at once(*tears*), not counting the trims. I understand the IMPORTANCE of protective styling.

  • I LOVE your hair in the video Cythia! =)

  • Do you get a lot of single strand knots? This is an interesting notion of washing and going, your hair seems to be thriving and I think we have a similiar texture. But when I wash and go the SSKs from letting hair shrink fully eventually cuase a hair cut which sets back my growth. I would like to see my curl pattern more but the SSKs would be the one issue I could see with this routine. Thanks.

  • biggest problem, we dont like r shrunken look for the most part so we're constantly tweeking, pulling at the coils.

SSKs dont happen when u leave ur hair alone, they happen during manipulation, usually more so when hair is drying or dry...thats why when i wash-n-go, hands stay out once im out of the shower (well i might RUB on a moisturizer/gel but thats it)

ur hair knows what to do, its us that keeps getting in the way :)

ps...SSKs does not have to = cut. i get them too but i dont stress it

  • how do you wear your hair to sleep? i cowash daily but I have to keep mine in a ponytail because it mattes up when I lay on it.

  • i used to worry about that too. if im in a puff ill go to bed with it, but clips and pins etc come out usually...so the "matted" stuff i just dont touch until its all soaked in the shower (scrunch water in gently first) and it fluffs right back out ready for cond'r :)

if you toss and turn a lot a satin bonnet/pillow will help keep your hair from rubbing itself into an unruly rock group all hung over the next morning! lol

  • I want to play in your hair so bad. lol.

  • I've been working out about 5 times a week, so I've been co-washing my hair almost everyday (I also stopped using combs). My hair definitely started feeling different, it felt curlier, but it looked the same. So,my hair felt really strange last night and I separated that area and looked in the mirror... my hair has made itself into what looks like finger/comb coils! It's so amazing! I had to find this video, because I knew I had heard of something like this happening. This method is great!

  • thats great!!!! im so glad its working for you too!! it only gets better :)

good for you for sticking it out...it doesnt happen overnight but u proved it will happen with patience and perseverance!

  • ok, i think i've found a hair cuz

  • I started back on your method again & I'm getting there but i dnt know if its just me but my scalp has really been itching me after every wash. I'm not sure if its the water. Have you exp. this? I live in Florida maybe the water system isn't so good down here. What do you do to reduce the itchies?

  • hmmm? could it be your product? i dont really experience itchy scalp but i must say as im wetting my hair in the shower it seems to "itch" a bit...so as its getting drenched i just give it a gentle scratch and it goes away

does it itch as your hair is drying?

  • im 14. i permed my hair wen i was lyk 11 n i mised my natural hair. i permed my hair bcuz i didnt no how to take care of it n i thought permed hair would be easier 2 take care of. so na im transitioning bak 2 natural hair and i cnt wait till my hair is fully natural! im afraid 2 wet my hair bcuz it just clumps n shrinks n gets so coarse it hurts so much 2 dentangle it. It may be that i dnt stick to one product or that the product isnt right for me. Do you have any product suggestions?

  • yeah its def your product. i could suggest but what works for me might not work for you. i would suggest using a deep conditioner (jar) vs the watery version in bottles - just seems to penetrate and detangle better imo - and a good leave-n helps as well...i used infusium when i was transitioning...but know the two textures is the hardest part to deal with

also sticking to one at a time (once you find a good one) is key too. switching too much can cause confusion for your hair.

  • I really don't like your hair looks good at all... it looks GREAT!!! Just beautiful! I love it! I only wish my hair was that thick and luscious. I'm a natural type 3 and trust I would scalp you if possible.

  • Hi ! I truly love your vids. I have been finger combing for 3months now and last week I gave in to the comb. My hair got really tangled & knotted i'm not sure if its because you wet your hair everyday or what? I wash mine once a week & put it into a ponytail. Does it help to do the cowashing thing daily? Do you ever go more than two days with out watering it down HELP! Also do you cowash for 7 days straight and then leave it alone for the next week?

  • hi thanks! fingercombg should not knot ur hair bc u can feel ur tangles b4 they become knots *its not 100% bc coily hair will knot some either way :) but the control is far better*

BUT cowashg is key - the cond'r/h2o helps detangle but has to be the right cond'r 4 ur hair. the wrong one will reak havoc & NEVER comb dry or spritzd hair!!! shower soaked only!

99% of the time i cowash daily then do a twistout thing aft 2wks or so (4-5days tops, spritzg daily) but no manip until back in shower

  • Yes! I gotta get the bad ends off my hair first. Once I nurse it back to health I will be trying this.

  • I am in freakin love with your hair!!!!!!

  • Thank you for all of your reinforcement and support of information.

question how can I retain my hair growth because it seems that I'm loosing my hair the same rate that is growing. Please help with information. Do you co-wash your hair everyday even when it was short?

do you leave the organics olive oil deep conditioner in your hair without damaging your hair? even though it has protain in it, or it is ok because you co-wash everyday? Please advise. thanks

  • well ive noticed spurts of growth or changes in the tightness of the curl - not sure which...

seems longer one month then shorter the next

if ur losing hair how are you manipulating?

i started cowashing daily about oct/nov 4-6 days/wk then daily in jan for 2mon. there was no damage bc i was fingercombing, air drying.

didnt have protein side affects from organics OO leave-n (most all have some but if labeled protein/strength dont do it) and rinsing next day was a must and beneficial

  • i love your hair!! i wish i could go natural but my hair is just wayyyyyy too out of control, i have way too much of it there's just no way :(

    what is co-wash?

  • curious: what does "...i wish i could go natural..." mean to you being white? i mean i know some do curly perms and color but do you straighten?

co-wash is using conditioner only skipping the shampoo

  • lol im not white.. i'm half white/black and my hair is VERRRYY curly.. extremely tight curls and I have a LOT of hair. its just a giant unmanageable mess when it's natural, so I relax it.

  • my bad...lol...just got a quick look at your profile pic

you should try these methods, you might be surprised how manageable it can be - hell if i can do it with this thick stuff anyone can

we unfortunately come out of the womb bombarded with how difficult our hair is and this sticks in us like glue - keep researching and take a chance

  • thanks so much.. youre definitely an inspiration

  • That afro is awesome!

  • I AM GOING NATURAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • alright!!! another member of the coily revolution!!!

  • damnnnnnnnnnn that some thick beautiful hair

  • I too remember your first videos and in fact I felt bad for you because 1) you had a LOT of steps going on and 2) like a lot of newbies you seemed to be chasing this curl definition holy grail and I felt you hadn't accepted your natural hair texture.

Just being honest...BUT NOW I'm beginning to wonder if there might be something to your madness, lol.

I have not worn shrunken styles for over a year because of my uneven curl pattern and a (REAL) fear of tangles. But you got a sister thinking...

  • lol....yeah i was beginning to wonder if i was chasing some holy grail too - but luckily im stubborn and hate thinking in a box , constantly challenging status quo...finally my madness is paying off :)

give it a try, if i can wet and "no comb" all this stuff and have no tangles anyone can!

  • You make a great point. It makes perfect sense. I also notice how you emphasize not touching your hair or disturbing the curl pattern. I am still transitioning and not touching is going to be a real challenge. I think mainly because I am getting to know my hair again. I have been watching your videos and you are the perfect example of trying until you find what works. You did it! Don't change a thing. Your hair is gorgeous!!!

  • I haven't looked at your videos in a few months. Your hair looks amazing! So well conditioned and moisturized...I haven't worn my hair as is in a while...you inspire me co-wash and go again

  • Your hair looks so thick and beautiful! Haven't transitioned yet, but this is a real inspiration!

  • LOL! I love car rides with my sunroof wide open now! I hated doing it when relaxed...I looked wild by the time I arrived to my destination. I agree that it takes time for your curl patter to POP. I did my BC in Sept. 08 and mine is just starting to set uniform all over. Co-washing has made a huge difference as well. With moisture I saw a difference in my hair! I just love how thick your hair is! Thanks for this vid!

  • I think we have similar textures, mine looks like that with a shake-n-go.

  • Do you air dry your hair in the winter? If so, how do you protect your head?

  • yes i do but i dont think about needing to "protect" my hair in that way. if the temp is at least 20-25deg i can go out slightly damp and not feel a thing (maybe my thickness lets me do this) then theres always a hat/scarf.

otherwise the only thing i protect my hair from are myths :) the main one being to cowash my hair as often as possible - usually daily

  • Very interesting... I did my BC in December 06. I was cowashing every three days and I stopped because I would feel cold all day. As the weather got warmer I started to wash and go again. Maybe I will try this in the Summer.

  • Do you get your hair cut at a salon to maintain the uniform shape and/or trimming?

Is it a layered hair-cut/trim once you've had it straightened?

  • no. i havent had it cut into any shape. i cut the perm out myself in july08. this is the way its been growing out naturally. i do cut the stray hairs tho (after its dry) but thats it....waiting for more growth to decide on a "style"

    vid coming on that :)

  • Thank you! I really appreciate the help =)

  • Thank you soooooo much for this! I co-wash daily and my hair loooves water! I am not loosing hair I am not getting dry hair. I still use shea and coconut butter at night but every morning after I workout I co-wash and put in a leave in. It is liberating to be able to wash every single day ! Thank you for the no comb thing too. My hair hasn't tangled and I never comb it, just my fingers. So far I am loving the ease of my natural hair. I wear a twa now and it is soooo easy to care for!

  • how do u sleep on it? do u wrap it with a scarf or bonnet? do u twist or braid it?

  • i sometimes do loose twists on the sides and back if i think i might try to have "day2" hair - other than that i dont worry about it and just wet it down and reapply leave-in the next day.

  • i love your video. I think i will try the finger combing. I use a wide tooth comb right now to detangle only and then I twist up my hair.

  • good video!!

  • i love your channel miss, i agree with you 100%

  • I agree with you..OUR HAIR needs water...water..water..it's like a plant..you have to feed it water to get it alive and growing...as far as over conditiong natural hair, using her method..you can't because you are wetting the hair down with in 1-2 days..the conditioner is being used as a styling product..as a leave in,a little goes a long way. I've been doing your method Ms. Lady and I can see results in a week. Also, my girl been doing it and her coils are looking so pretty.. Thanks

  • thats fabulous!!! isnt it amazing that something so simple... u r sooo welcome :)

im still shocked at all the positive results everyone is having - and that its still working for me too! there are days i just wet and add curl keeper and vg!

  • Comment removed

  • if I can ask..what is vg??

    keep doing you Ms. Lady

  • oh, sorry, guess ive been doing this too long :)

    its vegetable glycerin...

most products that work best for me has this in it as the top 2 o 3 on the ingredients list, so i add a little more to products to give it an xtra boost

  • your hair looks amazing. I'm a little confused. Do you use a "conditioner" as a leave in? or a "leave-in conditioner" as a leave in?

  • just a conditioner - im not sure those specified as a leave-in is xtra strength enough for us :)...well except the mixed chicks product - that works well too (but dont leave cond in with it - use one or the other)

  • The myth that was hard for me to break was ... that our hair cant take any water, but listening/seeing people on YouTube like you, makes me feel like if youre doing it I can too ... and that my hair won't suddenly drop off (thats what Ive been told) lol ... your hair is soooooooo fabulous, thanks for being an inspiration :) !!!

  • LOL!!! that water thing is CRAZY! i wish i could go back in time to when/who started that sht.

i just started to realize "if i like it when its wet, then how come i dont do it often so it stays like that?"

isnt it crazy the things we do to ourselves even when we know better - mental abuse and mind games are serious! and the hardest things to over come...

thanks for watching, listening, understanding, and the love! peace

  • Your hair is to DIE FOR!!! I need to stop coloring & cutting...just did BC#2 (color damage)!...Beautiful! Great video! =)

  • wow thanks...its getting there...slowly but surely. not a perfect system yet but damn if plain old water didnt bring me so close to the finish line :)

  • i love you for this. i mean really. you are a true blessing. i thought i was crazy for thinking my hair likes to be "watered" as much as i like drinking water. people thought i was crazy for not wanting to always manipulate my hair. i am so glad i am starting to be on the right track...for me at least. i mostly just appreciate other type 4 women who can validate what i'm doin. girl you rock!!!

  • Don't you know water is BAD for our hair??!! ;)

No joke, a "hair professional" just told me this...lol

  • that is true bc it keeps them in business if we keep listening to this crap!

same goes for other "professionals"...if it doesnt fit - you MUST acquit!!

  • thank u thank u thank u :)

  • I have been natural for 15 years but I have never been exposed to the vast sources of knowledge regarding natural hair. My styles have run the gamut from TWA to twists to locs to press and curl along with the ups and downs and frustration that sometimes accompany dealing with this type of hair in ways that "society" dictates. After 15 years I have FINALLY gotten to a point where I am keeping it super simple and "LOVIN' my do" because of all you and all of the awesome ladies of YouTube.

  • thank u very much - these awesome ladies on YT saved me from texturizing bc i was NOT happy but desperately trying to be...

this is an amazing community we have here -dont know what i would have done without it either :) peace

  • (previous post) my hair right. I've searched so many websites and although their techniques were good, they weren't compatible with my hair type. I was combing my hair with every co-wash (because I always woke up with a flat head) and using the wrong products. But with the help of the loose twists and 'no combing', my hair feels so much better. I just wanted to thank you girl for sharing what you've learned. It has really helped my hair journey.

  • My hair is kinky coily like yours with a cottony texture. I started using your manipulation techiques while shampooing, conditioning and even styling. I loose twist the back of my hair at night to help stimulate growth. Now my curl pattern is ALIVE! I co-wash with LeKair Deep Conditioner and even got me some mixed chicks. I AM MORE IN LOVE WITH MY HAIR THEN EVER BEFORE! It looks healthy, feels soft, and is growing like crazy. Thanks for your tips, I'm finally treating (next post)

  • I love this video!

    And you are so right

When I wasnt combing my hair looked it best...

    Im going to try!!

  • Loves it!!!!

  • your hair is so beautiful. i think i am really going to try that curl defining method you stated.

  • "no comb, no brush"

    i'm going to message you.

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is all that. I am subscribing right now.

  • I LOKE THE MUSIC IN YOUR VIDEO...from who is this french song...?

  • Yeah. It's just hair! I think African Americans have had it worse because I've always known MANY people with natural hair in Jamaica. There are the ones who still love the straight hair but I could care less about them. I dunno, I just think African Americans seem to struggle more with the self-acceptance thing... but maybe it's just because my mother loves natural hair and I grew up with my mother trying to stop me from relaxing my hair. LoL.

  • yes that is true...most of us were being hot combed or permed in elementary school - me included. almost no one had natural hair after 1975 LOL

  • Trust me, Africans suffer from this too..You should see the culture of extensions, perm and skin lightening here....

  • Yeah. I know. They seem to wear a lot of weaves too. We're all infected. lol. Some more than others.

  • Awesome vid as usual and by the way your hair looks wonderful. I believe that is the best I've seen your hair yet. What ever your doing it's working and I just love it. You look so pretty.

  • thank u!

its certainly the best my hair as EVER looked

  • Wonderful video, seriously. Please tell me the name of the music in this video, beautiful

  • I'm so impressed with your growth...girrrl from your 1st video, you had me feeling for you...but wow, look at what time/research/hairluv has done...yippeeee!! Girrl, instead of feeling for ya...you got me taking notes ;). Great insight. I'm lockd 5 yrs, but YOU & RusticBeauty, make me think about choppin my locs & growing out my 4b hair!! Peace Sis!!! ;0)

  • aaaahhhhh!! *hand over mouth*

thats a high compliment - thank you, really appreciate that!

you really saw what i was going thru! yeah i was a mess. thats why i started these vids...i was begging for help! i almost texturized at one time (sshhhh :)

im chasing rusticbeauty too. that girls had it down for a minute!

  • U know I was thinking the same thing in my head all this time, but I am happy u said it out loud. Great video.

  • looking good cynthia! great and informative video. very nice job. your hair is GORG!!

  • One day you ought to sit down and look at the firs video you ever made here and compare it to this one. The differenc is so striking. I don't mean just the hair though that transition is impressive all by itself. It's you. Something miraculous has taken place inside as well as outside. I don't know quite how to describe it but I want some of it for myself. <3

Oh, and I LOVE the second song you chose. Who it is?

  • *blushing* wow, thanks so much! ive been "transitioning" in many ways in the last couple of years so that hits a sweet spot :D

yeah my first vids were just as bad as my hair...LOL!!

  • OUTSTANDING video!

  • I totally feel/agree with you on the no combing thing, but for me, I have to comb it at LEAST once every other week because my hair actually starts to form DREADLOCKS all by itself, and no amount of finger combing will get them out. And also... doesn't anyone know where/how I calculate what level of hair that I have?

  • if your hair dreds and you are cowashing/finger combing daily, its the product. when the conditioner has the right moisture balance and slip for your hair this wont happen. some times protein rich conditioners will do this to protein sensitive hair also.

"...level of hair..." meaning hair type? i have links for all three typing systems (2 use similar typing methods)

  • I agree 100%. My hair is getting happier. :) I love your hair. Great video. You made alot of good points that people need to think about. My mom told me today that I probably can't get a comb thru my hair, but I don't want one in it. I prefer my hands to twist if needed. I look in the mirror and see beautiful curly, kinky hair instead of damaged, breaking, brittle, heat damaged straight hair. My hair loves me now because I have learned to accept and love it. 10 months strong.... :)

  • i mean if breaking combs isnt a sign of what not to do...geez...and we've all done it several times and still kept trying...

    see, old adages die hard!!

  • I love this video! with our past and having euro standards of beauty forced on us, i somehow feel that the damage is done, and that as a whole, we have permanently lost touch with a part of our culture.

as for hair, im just like you: I NEVER comb it. I threw that thing away lol. I fingercomb and use my denman. My coils have never been happier. Thanks 4 this vid :)

  • thanks!

u might be right as far as "damage is done" but sometimes u have to hit bottom b4 u can see the light!!

i think this tech revolution gave naturals a forum to find each other, share and learn so when we start walking around with thick coily hair looking happy to be natural - in ALL textures - others will hate the torture they are hiding and want better....

esp when they see how much better it can be w/ almost NO work..hopefully restoring a real sense of self that will stick this time :)

  • your hair is fierce. and so thick. I dont know I may be your hair twin but it will have to grow out or us to find out.

  • I love this! I wish people would just let go and accept their hair for what it is and work with that. It's the only way you'll be able to love you hair.

  • This is areally great video. It speaks to the whole point that going BACK to natural is first a MENTALITY change.

  • so what EXACTLY, is your hairstyled regimen in this actual video? Did you just cowash, finger detangle in the shower, leave in, and moisturize after?? Loved this video, your hair looks HAPPY and HEALTHY!

  • yeah...i'd like to actually see how you achieved your style in this vid! :-)

  • i didnt even moisturize after!! no kidding!!!! i just shake, air dry, shake again...thats it

ive only used my curl keeper or v.g. a couple times in the last month. i find i dont need it bc its soft when it dries now. im amazed too

i think it is happy - now.

  • so after the cowash...you don't apply ANYthing? No oils...no leave ins or...nothing? Just cowash and airdry--that's it?

If so--I'm truly amazed as well!! :-)

  • yes!! almost...

first 4 days i cowashd and added leave-in (a dab of same cond but still in shwr w/soaking wet hair...instead of using it in a water bottle) and moisturized (used a little curl keeper & v.g. on slightly damp/dry hair only)

day 5/6 i only needed to wet and add leave-in, no curl keeper

day 7 i washed/cond, added leave-in and curl keeper/vg (dry hair only again)

    thats my week ...really!!

    i was amazed too

  • Hey girl! Please tell me what Curl Keeper is?!

  • its by organics too. its a hair lotion/moisturizer - really softens w/o breaking ur pattern.

  • hmm..never heard of it but it sounds good. i just wish i could find more natural products that work!! I may break down one day though.

  • my next hurdle will be to find a natural conditioner that works just as well...i am sure its out there :)

  • Your hair is the "GOOD HAIR". You define it.

  • Your hair does not dread up and napp because you do not have nappy hair - Nappy hair is hait that has not been combed - You have good hair because its healthy

  • really good video! i really agree..we need to stop being afraid of water.

  • ...well i think your hair is special...why?? because its the natural healthy God given hair that grows out of your scalp and your scalp only!! Just pure special uniqueness!! again! this video was BRILLIANT! :D

  • Thank you for posting this!!!!! ^_^

    You're speaking so much truth!

  • this is brilliant!!!

  • Yeah girl, thats my secret too. I cowash everyday and let it air dry. Im going to play with justï»
