it saddens me to hear satch's new stuff, because frankly, its so shite. Its like his creative juices since "Engines of Creation' have completely fucked off. Still a great guitarist though :-)
best tone ever. even if some one can copy all his music perfectly, there are just extremely tiny things he does that can only be done when you truly put your soul into your music. and everyones is different. no one can ever match his.
i get teary when i think of what will happen when he dies. :'(
@theawakener7 I'm not a man of God myself, but your beliefs are your beliefs. I personally enjoy his mellower rock as opposed to his harder rock from the 80's and 90's. I was just saying that you were speaking for all satch fans when you are really speaking for yourself, even if other people do think the same.
@theawakener7 Can't say that I agree. To me, there's no such thing as a mediocre Satriani album. To be sure, Joe's sound is a bit different now than what you'll hear on Not of This Earth and Surfing with the Alien, but I thought Super Colossal and Professor Satchafunkilus were both first rate. Also, when Joe does try to do something different, i.e. Engines of Creation, a lot of fans moan and groan about wanting to hear the Joe they're used to. It's all good, including this album.
I don't know, you guise. Satch is solely the reason that I picked up a guitar 5 years ago (I'm 20), he's a genius of a guitar player, and my favorite of all time, but prof. satchafunkilus and this record have been letting me down (with a few exceptions like "I just wanna rock"& "Premonition". I mean, maybe it's because I am a young fan, whereas someone who has followed him for 20 years+has evolved their taste in music. The music is composed is complex, but offers no adrenaline like 1BigRush!
@RippedSupreme to me......this is his way of saying "im sorry for the last album" :P haha.......cuz i hated prof satch and musterion........best album is the extremist to me tho!!!
@RippedSupreme Well he said in his podcasts that this album is a lot of exploration, spanning many genres (ex. Golden Room was inspired by Indian music). I see what you mean, it's really different from his other work, but the more I listen to it, the more I feel like he's putting way more than music in this album. It's almost a journey of the mind.
One of the things I respect with JS so much is he is such a consistently excellent writer/composer. Now in his 50s, his new material is as good if not better than his offerings of 20 years back. He has never lost his edge.
I think every album sharpens his edge. Each one gets better than the last, but all are as good as each other at the same time. I mean, he doesn't even look 50. I swear his music keeps him young.
Am I the only person who thinks "The Extremist" his best cd? I love that album from start to finish, he writes songs! not just a bunch of notes to wank off 2.
Tears in the Rain & Why go together like We Will Rock You & We Are The Champions, you cant separate the 2. But dont get me wrong I love every Satch cd I own! And I own them not downloaded :) Support this man people!!!!
I'm a long year Satriani Fan bought my first album way back in the 90ies. On this particular album i think you can hear the influence from playing with Chickenfoot. It has more rythm guitar like parts and somehow i dont like it as much... yet!?
Satriani is not a simple gitar player! He feels all of the sound of the music in his body in his mind. There are some guy with better technics. But why can't they give us anything from his feeling. SATRIANI IS THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!
@Baskiller1 Joe has all the technique to school anyone and everyone, his magic is he has the discipline not to over use it, and yes, Satriani is the music
@johannesskaun74 You mean you can't feel the groove? Somebody please take him/her to the hospital, don't worry the hospital will get your groove sensor to work again. ;D
@k0sta5 When I first listened to it, I was honestly hoping Joe would use the relaxing sections as a solo fill area. Not when the clean chords come in, the things @ 1:30 .
Honestly, I find that this track was just for enjoying a mastery of tone.
The double stops in this song are just so full of that savory distortion.
Wow, I feel like shit being a Satriani fanatic and just finding this album out. I knew he was coming out with an album but of course this is the first time i've used the computer in over a month. Satriani YOU"RE THE BEST FOR EVER AND EVER!!!!
these songs are pretty ok but i loved the old style hard rock of satch and this is more inspired by the less amusing chickenfoot
don't blame me for this but it isn't just my style although satriani is my hero but i rather hear him diong some pretty dam rock/metal like a crystal planet or a mind storm
this is why i will always take satch over yngwie. no need to shred incessantly for 4-5 minutes even though he CAN. we all know it. he writes actual coherent songs with feel, groove, and technical skill to spare. greatest guitar player alive.
@pressuredcontents It's a different feel tho, I love Satch's writing style but I've loved Yngwie's playing since I first heard him play. He is so much more than just alot of notes! It drives me nuts when ppl say that about Yngwie. MAB now thats 2 many notes but Unless you own the 1st 7 Yngwie cd's you really cant be the judge. If you own them then my apologies :) Listen to the song "Crying" by Yngwie or the solo to Dreaming, Hold On, Marching Out, I could go on forever. He plays with PASSION!
Im sorry but this is far from original or fresh. I was hoping satch's new album would bring something new to the table. this is good but far from excellent, it's far too generic. it sounds like every other satch song
@jckbac9 Actually, it sounds like Satch is starting to pick up a few things from that 'Chickenfoot' band he was/is in. His music is getting a little bit more riff-based and genuinely listenable rather than the trap he used to fall in which was that only his slow songs were actually pleasant to listen to and the rest were just widdly, 3-minute-long solos that were all about wow factor. No matter, how slowly, he is improving as a songwriter.
Damn what a song. What an awesome fat groove in this song.
I just find it damn impossible to stop my head from banging along with this or keeping my legs from moving. When I can't keep either one of those still it means I'm listening to something really good.
Way to go Satch. Looking forward to the new album a lot.
Also gonna really enjoy myself on my birthday. Gonna go an watch Satch live here in Belgium on 30th october.
@Loz8900 Kinda Both being a smartass and serious. I think he is a fantastic musician and instrumentalist but genius? For playing lead guitar amazingly? I don't think that counts as genius...
I can hear this song growing up from 'Colossal' and 'Musterion' and his late work at CF... It has groove AND melody. However, I found out that it's not the singles that differentiate each album's statement. I'm expecting great production and talkative melodies that would make this his most perfected album since 2000 and I'mma see him live in LA!
its a good song but I expected a melody.. thats why I love joe, he can make up great melodies that blow you mind.. these guitar licks I heard many times from him.. you can really sense that joe is getting older, but however he is still and always be the best
how the hell people call this song 'repetitive' ?? he's obviously one of the best composers in todays music business. It shouldn't be that hard to keep up to his phrasing!
@the3xtr3mist Right on! I view him like a modern day mozart. Able to play amazingly skillfull stuff, that is also excessable, beautiful and emtioanl and a joy to listen too. He is a masterul composer!
Damn.......:-) Your groove seems to get bigger and bigger on every new idea....what a great song....I hope your CD will come out very soon, because....I love it...:-)
Satriani is the best guitarist to come along in the last 25 years. This song may be to repetitive to some but I'd rather listen to Satch any day rather than listening to someone like van halen who seems stuck in the past. At least Satch changes his music up and doesn't play the same as when he first started.
@elviz71 All of Joe's albums have been different and he comes with new flavors in every one of them. I am a Crystal Planet fan too, but it's nice to know we can look for something new in every one of his albums
Joe Satriani says: "It’s almost the history of rock guitar riffs. The main guitar line was a hard one for me to figure out. It sounds kind of simple and funny, but it perplexed me. "Light Years Away was something of a puzzle that I needed to solve. But once the band and I played it together, we looked at one another and went, ‘Wow! That really swings.’ It does have a touch of fusion, but it’s got the rock, too.”
God what a tone. his tubes must have been on fire recording this

Nice. But where is the melody?

Satriani is the best guitarist to come along in the last 25 years. This song may be to repetitive to some but I'd rather listen to Satch any day rather than listening to someone like van halen who seems stuck in the past. At least Satch changes his music up and doesn't play the same as when he first started.

I love Satch and his music but this shit is whack!
JOE come up with sth like "Crystal Planet" or so. MORE MELODY dude!
elviz71 1 year ago
@elviz71 All of Joe's albums have been different and he comes with new flavors in every one of them. I am a Crystal Planet fan too, but it's nice to know we can look for something new in every one of his albums

Prof. Satch is on the best moment of his career and he is starting to take an advantege of it.
Great timing to record a new solo album now... The fans couldn'd wait anymore
Fantastic, surprising as always, Satriani is back!

Great from first to last. The final minute is simply epic...

@SUSAltd
day of the SAT?
sorry need some explanation here :P
what is the SAT?
Thompsongast 1 year ago
@Thompsongast In America, the SAT is a nation-wide test you take (partly to get into college).
And also, I got the date confused. The album is NOT being released on the day of the SAT.

@SUSAltd
aha, thank you :)
these things are always cool to know ( i'm from holland),
and also good for you, that the album isn't going to be released on the day of the SAT ;)

Not bad, not great, sounds like Joe is running out of ideas a little bit. Repetative. Still creative though.

@jerm26554
Some might say repetitive, I say consistent.
