great film, superior to Goodfellas but that's a matter of taste, most wd disagree -the brutal realism of the savage baseball bat 'whacking' of Nicky n his bro gives me The Fear .. also that scene where the bagman is chased round his house, shuffles wounded onto his lawn as the hitman ambles up behind "come here jerk off" n shoots him in the back of the head, brutal how this loyal guy's so callously executed, then there's the Andy Stone hit b/c "why take a risk?" .. big risk working for mobsters
@TheGambler666 Yeah I hear what your saying, and they call themselves men of honor, wheres the honor in killing your people who arnt breaking rules, cause its based on a true story.
@benbenben796 it's an object lesson that if yr gonna work for gangsters then unless you're connected yourself you're expendable b/c when the SHTT it's a scramble to stay alive, they ruthlessly dispose of good loyal ppl who are no longer of use b/c they MIGHT be a liability! So you're dead right no honour in that. "why take a risk?" that mob boss said -what a wanker, Andy Stone was a sound guy, loyal, kept everything together for them and yet they took him out the way they wd a rat!
@charms its a tough call to make because both fils are so good.I guess its a matter of opinion but I def liked Casino over Goodfellas. How well it was produced aswell even though the two are similar with the telling of storys VIA Narrotive which I think is awesome along with its production.I love the Casino boxmen scene were Ace is talking about whos watching who..
@Pulpedtoafiction31 I hear you. I used to prefer goodfellas but only because I hadn't seen Casino in a while, but when I revisited, I have no doubt that I now prefer Casino.
@chinahands100 The writing is brilliant, acting is thrilling. Everything from costumes to production design and cinematography was much better than Goodfellas. it's a very beautiful crafted film indeed, and probably one of the most underrated films of the 90's. The themes and characters are somewhat similar to Goodfellas, but it's still very different in terms of how it looks and feels.
@mowriter - yes, he's Joseph P. Reidy, long time Scorsese's 1st Assistant Director. Allegedly, Scorsese wanted to thank him giving him a little role, knowing he would love that. He did. In the IMDB database he's credited in both roles, as 'winner' and as 1st AD.
@mowriter He is. He had been Scorsese's 1st assistant director for a long time, and Scorsese wanted to thank him by giving him a little role. Which he did perfectly, in my opinion.
im suprised that marty didnt snap at the academy for not giving him an award for this movie. if not goodfellas, at LEAST, casino, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. fucking a.
He will go back to making his gangster films but he better do so soon..because the actors he used were a big part of those films and he may loose them to age..
@viniciusb Academy awards are all political, political correctness, thin obvious messages, etc, just like the nobel peace prize. Actual quality has nothing to do with it.
I'll comment: I think this movie in it's way is just as good, if not better, than "Goodfellas". Ray Liotta was the wildcard in "GF" and Sharon Stone was the wildcard in this movie; both of them turned in absorbing, fascinating performances of people hitting it big and destroying themselves with excess. And just the casino/Vegas setting is the best I've ever seen on film. I love this movie, love the guys, and I love Scorsese!
wait one minute this troll say robert feniro is best actor? but how can you say when there is pacino too

7:01, the guy saying "Action". Isn't that also the guy who doesn't get the hammer but agrees to leave empty handed? The low level cheat?
