  • INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She is one of the most talented and authentic R&B/Soul artists to come around for a long time. Right up there with Alicia Keys for me. Except Alicia doesn't get you jazzed up the way Janelle does.

  • she so talented

  • Love this!!

  • Excellent drummer. Knows what he's doing

  • Comment removed

  • Why isnt more popular than she is?? Way more talented than rihanna and everyone else topping the charts today. Seriously.

  • She so talented....Wish I could do that.....!!!

  • great song to dance to on got to dance 3, thats what brought me here

  • God I love her. A true artist!

  • great

  • The best part of this video is the drummer spinning the drumstick around repeatedly.

  • The backing vocalists are hot...

  • While I recognize that she is one of the few (semi) famous artists out today that don't lip sync live, I can't help but think live she doesn't sound good and she's kind of gimmicky.

  • @thatgirlinitaly She is at glastonbury here though, there are plenty of live performances that show that she has a greattt voice.

  • Asian chick on the cello. Bass player be steppin!

  • does anyone know the names of the band members? or where i can find them? i've searched everywhere with no luck!

  • It's irresistible.

  • Saw her live in Rock in Rio, didn't expect much and she just blew my mind.

  • My biggest regret of Glasto 2011 - not seeing this.

  • Such a powerful voice third time watching in one night

  • TEH AWSOMENESS AND MOAR

  • I still have a popped black balloon as a souvenir somewhere :)

  • Awsome Performance!!!

  • lol at 4:02

  • go girl!!!!

  • shes such an incredible singer. A definite flower in todays mediocre mainstream crowd.

  • Ela arrebenta........

  • La cancion antes de esta, como se llama? Gracias

The song before this, how does it call? Thanks

    PD: En el recital

  • adoro ela de+ um dos melhores shows de ontem!!!!

  • understand this. When you do what you love and get paid for it..... you made it!

  • 6 people didn't tip on that tightrope.

  • 6 people just got upset because they didn't see her live.

  • We need to save this type of music. I consciously buy her albums and those of similar artists. It's about time we claim music's true heritage before it gets lost forever. She and the few others may be our last hope.

  • look at my BFF !!! shout outs to RAERAE singing background!! im soooo proud of you!!xoxoxo C.Hughes

  • Cool song! I´m playing it in a band, and i was wandering if anyone has got or has seen the chords for the song?

  • i cannot hear this video at all, it is deaf!

  • I flippin need to go to Glastonbury!!

  • I hope she doesn't make it mainstream. The music industry is so corrupt that they'll oversex her image and songs to get more fame and money. She has too much intelligence and creativity to get turned into a sex object, although I do think she is sexy and beautiful in a natural, classy, and elegant way (unlike these mainstream artists).

"If you wanna be free Below the ground's the only place to be" One of the lyrics from her song "Cold War"

  • @KTBEverlasting I remember once listening to that song and reading the lyrics simultaneously. The truth of that line gave me the chills.

  • @Drakecageful Hell, the truth of most of her songs give me chills. She's is really that amazing.

  • She starts really breakin' it down at around the 4th minute, damn!!!

  • She can walk my tightrope anytime. That doesn't even make sense. But I love her. :)))

  • I think she deserves the same amount of popularity as Beyonce; faw real.

  • @eddiemarriott: SOOOOO TRUE! I said that in another post. This girl is SOOOO AMAZINGLY TALENTED, she should be a MEGA STAR!!!!

  • Oh, and to the comments saying she won't make it in the states because the 'kids' don't appreciate good music today over there. I say ridiculous. If she doesn't make it there, we'll take her over here in Ireland, the UK and Europe. ;)

  • The people on here saying this girl won't make it maintstream because she doesn't have strong vocal ability are either idiots or deaf. The girl is ON TOP of her game and has some ridiculous vocals here! I think better than a lot of other female singers around today. People are mistaking her personality for inability. Keep your eyes on her, she is gonna be huge!

  • Straight-up INSANE!!!

  • Wow!

  • Certainly inspired by The Godfather of Soul!

    Brilliant voice and band!

  • where is that small girl murderdancer from the original music video?

  • You just gotta love her. Im so glad i saw her show in Finland. I mean this show surely is not bad, but man, she was a real firecracker in finland =) Larger than life itself. God bless.

  • @konnuli

Indeed, probably THE BEST gig I've ever seen and I've seen plenty...

  • lot of people arguingabout this. if its any consolation, i had never heard of her and saw her at glasto and thought she was fantastic. thats as much as ive looked into how she can and cant do this, because frankly i have better things to do. i just like the music.

  • Beyonce will over dominate her talent because she will want all of the attention and creditably, its obvious, also physically if they were on stage they will clash not to mention dancing styles as well. Anyone who does a duo with Beyounce needs to be very careful and must match her on ever level so that they are not purposely outshine by having the her be the center of attention.

  • BTW I support artistist like Janelle, but the truth is obvious and in the pudding as they say. Shes played her cards well by making her life private and her sexuality, shes played it smart by being affiliated with Diddy ON HER OWN TERMS. Her next move will be to get involved maintstream but not by creating a skimp

y video, but by being involved in a duo with a heavy hitter who has some creditably, Beyounce IS NOT ONE OF THEM, I would say Alicia keys, Mary J, maybe even Mariah.

  • Shes talented but not enough to propell her in the states. As unique as she is I donthink she has enough to separate her in the states.

  • @aky19832001 Oh really? with all the untalented people who are popular today she doesn't have enough talent? My god...

  • @lovingklimt The answer is not based on full potential talent, shes can sing, big deal. I can go do any given black church on a sunday and find someone who is more vocally talented then she is. Mark my words and feel free to message me latter on and agree with me.

She hasn't caught on maint stream for a reason, She may prove to be effective behind scenes, but as it currently stands she has nothing to offer to make her maintastream.

  • @aky19832001 If you're saying she can't make it mainstream because her vocals aren't solo material, I would like to point to Fergie who made it mainstream with a crappy voice. Janelle doesn't have a ton of straight-up vocal ability but she is talented and has a great ear for production. Most importantly, she's a visionary which is something you could say about very few others in the business.

  • @aky19832001 you dumb idiot. not unique??? unlike all the 1000s of people popular who are popular in america she can actually a) sing b) does not rap c) uses a band that the ability to play their instruments rather than to use their laptops. she doesnt flash her cleavage or wear meat skirts to get attention. but she is already pretty popular that she can continue what she is doing without worrying about the money.

  • @Adriat1c I speak from experience. She has nothing in her arsenal to make her popular or last in the music industry as a popular artist. She will non the less make a sucessfull producer and behind the scenes.

  • @aky19832001 you're just dumb, no point in discussion with you when you are so clueless. as i said she is already popular enough, she doesnt need to be as popular as lady gaga, justin bieber and other fame whores.

  • @Adriat1c she is already popular...she's not a sell out artist...I agree with Adriatic...and she's a killer live performer she doesn't lack of nothing and please don't even put her in the same sentence with people like Bibier, Gaga Rihanna and other shit artists....

  • @aky19832001

Because here in the states the present generation does not know what talent is.

  • @aky19832001 She's American and already pretty well-known in the states, so what are you talking about?

And not talented enough? LOL! You're joking right? You must be.

  • Thunbs up if the kmart commercial brought you here

  • Awesome!

  • James Brown is somewhere smiling. The girl's got Soul.

  • @scampbell04 Indeed she does

  • @scampbell04 true! she definitely takes a page or two from his book...with the cape and everything lol...but, it does work for her

  • I love Janelle Monae. I think that she is one of the best young performers around.

  • I remember watching this on BBC three live what an amazing performance

  • @2MinutesToMidnightt Aww you're too kind! Ok I'll go away :)

  • Sharliza is a crazier version of Janelle Monae! Type in No Go Pogo and you'll see what I mean...

  • @masstsnk Can you go away please, I'm seeing you all over the place lately.

  • The best act at Glasto this year. Stumbled upon her by accident while buying a brothers cider and threw my pint away and danced my arse off. Top bird. Peace and love X

  • Finally she's getting the attention she's deserved since The Audition.

  • She has to be the best live artist in the world right now. Even the string players are dancing.

  • she's mental and incredible! Thats me at the front woooo she was definitely one of the best at glasto x

  • sex..!!!!04:01-04:04

  • @84868869 I knew I was not the only one who noticed Kellindo's pelvic thrust...LOL I was like mmmm Lawd :)

  • Love her!

And thumbs down to the BBC for demanding the takedown of her set...

  • She's frickin awesome!!

  • I love her so much. It's about the music, not how she looks and that's amazing. Not many female artists get to do something like this with so much control over their art!

  • This young lady has the lot. The voice, the moves, and the looks, not to mention a very accomplished band. I'm sorry to say Beyonce but this beautiful talent blew you out of the water.

  • i wish i was there

  • Original, exciting, vibrating. Deserves to be huge.

  • I just thought of good old James Brown!

  • I've been a fan since, "Many Moons", and I still haven't seen her live yet. I want to cry.

  • Amazing... she deserves to be better known

  • MARAVILHOSO EM' :))

  • Glad people are starting to notice what an incredible artist and performer Janelle is. I watched her live in Birmingham in February and was blown by her perfomance and since been converting friends onto her music.. This women is amazing. If u really want to get into her music, download her album the ArchAndroid. One of my favourite album of 2010.

  • Great to see Janelle is finally getting the reception she deserves in the UK at last!. I first found her in a Mashup with Nancy Sinatras "The Boots Are Made For Walking". I was surprised to see she has only been a download success here. Maybe soon this will translate in CD sales.

  • I've just heard her recent album (ArchAndroid), its brilliant! Very diverse

  • Yes fandroid #57822

  • Catchy and Exciting! I'm HOOKT on this performance! BET shudda closed with THIS perfromance from Glastonbury instead! YISI (Yeah I Said It)

  • Why no Big Boi?! Seems crazy to not have him do his section when he was at the festival...

  • noisetts were good

  • Like wow...

  • Such incredible rythym!!

  • Best concert I've seen at Glasto this year. What a fantastic show! Loved every minute. And damn, I love that girl. Voice, dancing, charism, style... breathtaking.

  • AMAZING. The singing, the dancing, the band, it was all just so good.

I don't want to live in a world where people don't appreciate this.

  • It's truely a beautiful event I saw here - all beit on BBC, Well done for a superb coverage, Beeb. It was pure theatre from the silhouettes, the mesmeric string section, the soulful horns, the funky drummer, the psychedelic keyboard player, the rocky guitarist and, last but by no means least, the supreme ringmaster nay wizard of this happening: Janelle.

    Mo' Monáe, please!

p.s. to those lazy journos: don't categorise this group using the traditional genres - just try no category at all!

  • She must be in awesome shape to be able to cut a rug and sing w/o sounding breathless. Wow! Incredible talent.

  • she should give Beyonce an education!

  • I LOVE KELLINDO'S PELVIC THRUST...omg that was like sexy as hell!!!! mmmm

  • top act glastonbury 2011. Good girl, well done.

  • @jacobzurra thumbs down

  • Is there somewhere to see all the songs that were aired? Or was there only one song aired? I need to track down the full thing if the whole concert was aired.

  • @Tricky12 bbc iplayer

  • was in this audience and i've got to say it was one of the most amazing things i've ever seen and heard. everybody was going mental!!! you can hear there reaction in this in this video but you really needed to be in the audience to understand how amazing this was!! thank you janelle monae for an amazing experience.

  • I was first introduced to Janelle Monae at the 2010 Pop conference in Seattle. Her speech and how she approaches music blew me away. So much given back to the community..

  • This girl is a credit to young artists and music and black music.

  • Janelle is absolutely fantastic. Always.

  • She will be massive within 2 Years

  • Best thing at Glasto. Puts Beyonce in the shade IMO

  • beyonce on the main stage? when this is available? madness

  • Overwhelmed by Janelle, underwhelmed by Beyonce....

  • <3 her and this song :)

  • i love her.

  • f*cking great !!

  • Really gutted I missed her this weekend, I really love this. Fit perfect between Pulp and Chemical Brothers too. Gutted.

  • Where i can watch more Glastonbury 2011 videos ?

  • Thank you Janelle for an electrifying performance, and for showing the UK (and the rest of the world) what you're all about. n thank you Glastonbury for giving her the biggest festival platform for her to bring her music and performance too. Hopefully everyone can get up to speed now on this wonderful talent. Better late than never eh people!

  • I told all my friends with glasto tickets to go and see this, it'll be the best gig of the festival. I got a call after she'd finished from two of them delighted. Shes's an icon in the making. Everything that makes pop music great is right here. phenomenal.

  • Better than Beyonce

  • Fantastic!!

  • 3 people won't tip on the tightrope!

  • Seeing her live in cork, going to be amazing!

  • put up the last song. Was incredible

  • her set was banging ....

  • amazing, she lets her hair have its own swagger

  • does anyone has her performance of come alive dat gurl killed it couldn't even watch coldplay was busy dancing alone to come alive. Mad mad performance

  • Talent for days... I love this chick, SHE ATE THAT STAGE!

  • anyone know what is the song she sang when she had the whole crowd singing back then she went crowd surfing ? what a performance...

  • @macgiver351 That was a brilliant song, was it Cold War?

  • @macgiver351 That song was 'Come Alive' It's also on youtube.

  • @gralu1 Really could ya send me the link for it please? I cant find it anywhere..

  • watch her on letterman - killed it!

  • Yes!

  • stunning. great fun. what a frontwoman !! tks so much for posting.

  • The modern James Brown period this lady is the 'boss' come back to life but she rocks a lil harder the Jbs.

  • She crosses numerous genres effortlessly and meticulously. Anita Baker, James Brown, Billie Holiday, Sandie Shaw, 50's rockabilly, intelligent Stevie Wonder style soul, Prince, 30's-style big band/ bepob jazz, lavish orchestration...She can do it all, but the end result is stunningly original. Monae's performance at Glastonbury is one of those epiphenal moments in rock music - stunning.

  • i can't find the performance of come alive. it was awesome! can someone tell me if they find it please :L x

  • her performance of Come Alive was EPIC!

  • this is musically and visually stunning! she has an amazing voice, and what a great band! seeing this was, like many others the first time i've seen janelle, but it wont be the last......

  • @Tech3000i I'm so happy that people like you (and others) are discovering her. It just makes me sad that everyone looked past her when her album was out. It had good enough promotion and fantastic reviews!

  • no surprise here cuz she's been killin it for 2 years now....nice to see people done caught up and Ms. Monae finally get her shine!!

  • @Ronkaylah612

Damn right, its about goddamn time!

I was lucky enough to catch her live earlier this year, but Ms Monae has definatly left her mark at Glasto this year.

Like you said, glad people have caught up!

  • Which stage did she perform at?

  • This is the most epic performance I have ever seen at Glastonbury. Most of the crowd have never seen her before and they lap her up.

Already a legend among musical artists.

  • Wow! Excellent! Thanks for this upload. Love it.

  • Definately my Glastonbury highlight, i quickly turned over for a few seconds to see what i was missing, only coldplay, quickly turned back .

  • @vegbloke Haha that's exactly what i was doing. this girl is something else.

  • never heard of her before watching the band on bbcthree last night, what a brilliant show ! if only i'd had the dvd recorder ready, i hope someone puts up the other songs they showed.

  • @vegbloke I know, the song whey they all lay down and played.... amazing.

  • wow she is one hell of an artist her performance was outstanding!!! luv this girl x

  • She's awesome!

  • Amazing live music. Well crafted, well thought out performance and brilliant musicianship. Can't help but move to it.

  • Amazing! I love her

  • A Brilliant Sound, can't help tapping my foot.

  • Great! A female James Brown! Fantastic!

  • Powerful!

  • o futuro !!!!!!!!

  • She performs the same no matter how many people are in the audience. She been performing like this for years.
