Thanks for the awesome review. I just ordered the DVR... can't wait to try it out.
I ordered it on eBay as well, the model I ordered have the IR feature but do not have the motion sensor but from your review the motion sensor pretty much useless.
--------- (my message was too long) Do you know of a solution to get rid of the blur and record actual nice videos like the ones you do? I will upload a 2 minute sample on my channel for you to watch and compare.
@Techmoan I thought of that myself but i couldn't find something like that over the lens. There wasn't anything sticked to the lens when I took it out of the box.
@Techmoan Bummer, I was hoping you could help me. Personally, I'm guessing it has something to do with my SD-card. It's a 2 gigabyte and I dont even know what class it is. Do you think the quality is related to the probably low-class SD-card?
@Michzz69 All a bad or slow memory card can do is drop frames which creates a stop_start motion in your video. It can't make things blurry. Your problem is optical, not digital.
I'm sorry if I bother you but I have a question. I ordered the HD DVR camera and it just got in today. I thought I'd try it out and all was well but when i was watching what it actually recorded on my computer it turned out the video was rather blurry (snowy). I'm recording with settings 1280 x 720 30 FPS and i'm using a 2GB (I do not know the class of my SD card) Also, seeing I got my HD DVR yesterday it looks a bit different from the one you got. I have Version v 1103081T. --------------
I just installed the Itronics ITB-70G dash cam. From your video review of HD 720P I knew that there must be a less complicated product without the button fumbling and all. The Itronics is truly "plug and play" with only one button. Used if one wants to mark a segment to preclude being over written or to reformat the card. The GPS function is amazing to me. The night recordings are near worthless....but the other functions overcome that drawback for me.
Question: when the card is full, does the camera really delete the oldest files and keep on recording non-stop? The reason I ask is because my D016 camera would stop recording when the card is full. I have to manually delete the old files to keep it recording
Hello, thank you for the review, It was so useful for me. I need your suggestion in buying a car camcorder for my friend. Which car camcorder is the best, which one do you suggest me to get. Thank you a lot in advance.
This has helped me a lot! Thanks for doing this, very very helpfull to watch. Not only how they work but the good and bad things + the comparison.. Hard to compare when its "random" ebay stuff.
There's a sort of updated one of these for about £30 with LED lights on the front, and the pop down screen and camera lense both swivel - do you intend to review this?
One big problem, you get one for your car and lets see how long it lasts, it will be stolen in a matter of time. You need one of the mini camera's or you are just wasting your money.
@Dragonslayer2065 simple my friend. Just detach the camera from the socket and store it either in the glove department, under the sead, or in the trunk. OR you can put it in your pocket.
Very informative review, thank you very much. I have found your video looking for a video review of Xenta In Car DVR Camera, which seems to be very similar to the one you have reviewed, just Xenta has got infra-red night vision.
Nice work. Good review, and a cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org
I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!

The car-wash scene clearly showed the problem with the fish-eye lens camera, i.e. its often hard to read number plates clearly, which defeats the object of an in-car video camera really
Got a question for you regarding the D011. I notice that both in this comparison as well as in the other review you did on the D011 you demonstrated the lackluster sound quality. My question is this: Does the D011 have an actual hole in it for the microphone? If not, have you dismantled it enough to see whether a small hole could be drilled through the torch case in order to improve quality? I'd be very curious to see a comparison of such a mod if you make one.
Since yesterday when I posted this, I found another reviewer of the D011 who modified his to allow the microphone to be outside the casing. While he didn't show the mod itself, the improvement in sound quality was like night and day! My desire would be to leave the mike inside the unit, but provide a direct path for sound to enter the case. I'd still be interested in any review you could do on this sort of mod, as I suspect you'd enjoy your D011 a LOT more after modding it for better sound.
When taking it apart found that the actual camera lense is detachable, it may be possible to replace it and might be why you can get many versions of the exact same camera. The tft is attached and appears to be powered via a ribbon, took the ribbon out. I suppose I would like to have an on off switch but I've got no idea how to do that without major mods.
Loved the videos part 1 and 2. Excellent "real world" usage. I've been comparing these cameras for months now. Most, now, indicate that the HDMI is not even connected electrically. Have you seen the new "car cam" from Taiwan. They claim "true", not interpolated, 1280 x 960 with electronic "anti-shake". I'll be looking forward to more of your reviews... more helpful than "claims" by manufacturers. USA.
I do find the automatic record naff, was parked on the road in front of my dads drive, he was off it, got a video of a fly on my windscreen, then a bird goes by and my dads car is there even though he pulled in front of my car and reversed on to the drive in front of me. I dont like the mount and I also wish the screen turned off (I may open it up and see if I can't just unplug it).
Thank you a lot! I wanted to buy this dvr, but now I've changed my mind. Gotta find something else, this is not really better thatn my nokia 5800 camera, except the fish eye that's very useful.
Anyway, I hope to find a camera that gives sharp image of the number plate at distance of 10-15m, but I'm not sure there is any...
I have a "Car DVR" (the one with the fold down screen). I'm not impressed. It's not "real" high definition, and when the card's full it loses 3 seconds between 2 min video clips, 7 seconds between 5 minute clips, and 1 minute between 15 min clips. That's a lot of non-recording time.
I had an old Sony 8mm video camera, (pre digital) which had a/v INPUTs and I also had a cheap CCTV camera from a eBay seller and stuck that on the dash with the recorder attached to the transmission tunnel on my Range Rover (plenty of room). Result = I got 3hrs (LP) fairly good video and sound. I even tried using the whole Sony camera on the dashboard but that was too bulky and probably a crash hazard.
I wish that i'd had one of these before i lost my no claims bonus. The other person lied through his teeth and cost me a small fortune.
Will be getting mine as soon i decide which to buy.
Have you any plans to review the type that is sold by a company called Roadhawk? Theirs incorporate a GPS linked to goole earth. I thinking seriously about investing in one.
@JimmyJagg Hi. I'm not planning on reviewing the Roadhawk. I tend to just look at the dirt cheap end of the market. If you get one though be sure to report back.
@Techmoan I'll will be getting an in-car DVR over the next couple of weeks, probably a roadhawk (as it has extra useful features). Will come back and let you know how i get on.
The comparison with the D011 was very interesting, personally I think that the D011 has much better footage in the day time but seems to lose out at night. I noticed that the number plates on the D011 are readable while the car is a reasonable distance away whereas with the footage from the DVR they are only readable when the car in front is quite close. At night the D011 frame rate seems too low.
Anyway I got a quick chuckle when the white Mini in front of you at the car wash stalled.
@yojojonathan ..but to elaborate further.... there are people in professional driving occupations who find these devices useful to prove their innocence in the event of a crash. Taxi and HGV drivers who depend on their vehicles for a living could use the footage from one of these cameras to show what really happened when it's one persons word against the other and there are no witnesses.
Other people just like to record interesting journeys that they have done - especially on motorbikes.
@Techmoan You are EXACTLY correct...this is exactly why they are so popular among fleet vehicles. We sell the PomCam and it's not a HD version. It's highly reliable and retails for under $100 and that's another reason why they are so popular. Great review!!
