@luisitosax no this is Bb. you can tell when he fingers certain notes (like high C), they sound as concert Bb. and clarinet in A has a bit of a darker sound.

My god is that the infamous Benny Goodman "RAY"?! The way he keeps on STARING at the bass/drum guys is terrifying!!!! I listened to it over and over and find no problem with the rhythm so what is Benny up to??. I can't believe he was like that for all those years! He's a beautiful musician but ruins it for me with that EVIL RAY thing!

@jimcrich haha, I think it is! The only thing that I can think of is maybe the drummer/bassist were kicking it off a little too swift vs. Benny's mentally precise tempo. It's nice to actually see what might be in this case the "RAY"...haha!

I think that you are correct Syipase. I wondered why he stopped playing. Thanks for clarifying. This often happens when our gospel choir processes into a church and the congregation claps out of sync. It's usually a mess til we all get into the sanctuary!

I am a big Benny Goodman fan and my band plays this number. My take on this is slightly different. Firstly it is Benny himself that starts the clapping so he is not waiting for the clapping to stop. . I think he lost tempo for a minute and deciced to drop out until the next 4 bar interval. Even with the best it happens !

@harveybenson i saw it that way as well its like hes queing the band and the crowd thinks ohh its clapping time....its eddie duran that needs containing hes just loving being up their with the great BG..when they do world is waiting for the sunrise in this show he grunts and moans in AWE of the master thru the whole tune..its a Jazz thing im sure really cool to see people loving their work...
