  • Cud, miód ultramaryna! KOCHAM GO!

  • Wow! Always wanted to know how Rudy sounded like!! Couldn't understand the lyrics so thanks for titling. A true legend, so passionate in his films, especially his later ones. He could've handled the talkies but my guess that even if he did survive, he would've retired by then. Great find by a unique screen legend. A lot don't understand his appeal, but I find him the most blazingly passionate star on screen...thanks Rudy....

  • Today we mark 85 years since he passed away. What a black day it is. I shall see one of his films, but it's hard to make up my mind since I love them all.

  • @daeelly I know it's hard for me to pick a fav film of his. I think his acting improved with each film, so i think his last 3 films really showcase his talent best. ;)

  • He had a very charming voice and surely he might have been a great singer if he had lived longer. How tragic that his life ended so suddenly and prematurely just when he was at the peak of his career. This recording is a rare treasure. It would have been wonderful to see him pass from silent to talking movies, he would surely be equally successful. If he had been so irresistible only when you looked at him one can imagine how much more so he would have been when you heard him speak or sing.

  • @fay450 Yes ;)

  • It's thrilling to hear Rudy's voice! It sounds like he has a very strong Italian accent, so sexy, charming, and utterly masculine.

  • The sound of his voice does not surprise me, I had read people who knew him and his family said he had a baritonaly, warm and deep voice.

  • I alway was courios to know if he had an accent.

Could have he a carrier in the sound film or not?

  • @Miauriceful It's hard to know without hearing him actually speak. Some with accents did well in talkies, some didn't. But, if needed, there were English speech coaches.

  • It makes me really sad thinking of the horrible way he had to die. RIP Rudy forever loved <3

  • Can we clone him? Seriously.

  • @Kathylouu : )

  • I see we're all here for the same thing :To celebrate Valentino's birthday again. :)

    He will never be forgotten

  • And today is the 116th Birthday of this great actor :-)

  • His voice sounds so cute... but macho too! :) I love how you can definitely hear his accent, especially when he prounces certain words.

  • @dirtysouthlepluv I agree. ;)

  • @dirtysouthlepluv Yes, I really like the sound of his voice. ;)

  • @dirtysouthlepluv - Listen to Russ Columbo's recordings - I think there's a similarity to the timbre of the baritone. I think Valentino's voice is slightly darker and deeper than Columbo's. Sort of a cross between Columbo and Vaughn Monroe. My subjective opinion here. It would have been fascinating to hear what he would have sounded like in the late 1920's or early 1930's. Of course there would have been an English accent coach needed for the talkies.

  • He was such a beautiful man, but also a beautiful soul. Whenever I hear him sing or see his film, despite his "stardom" I still still a vulnerable young man, lost in the world. The world was not ready for him. I just want to hold him close and let nothing harm him.

    That's my romantic meandering...;)

FYI-NEVER see the 1977 film Valentino. His life was NEVER that manic and the rough looking Rudolph Neryouv is not who I think when i think rudy. Nobody- in ANY time- can capture him.

  • @ccipollini1984 I would like to do more than just hold him. ;)

  • @ccipollini1984 very nice comment.

  • He enchantes me. Not only as a star, but a person.

  • @ccipollini1984 I think so too. ;)

  • His voice is deeper than I thought it would be. Gloria Swanson said he had a deep husky voice. Another reason to miss him. He would have transitioned well into talkies, this was in 1923 so he had another few years to work on the english. Thanks, this was wonderful. He was one of a kind, maybe never one like him before and certainly not after.

  • @Kathylouu For the silent era, i think he stands out. He's the silent film actor i watch the most. Maybe it's because he looks modern to me in some way. It's like he had both the old world and new world charm. He had that star quality. The young actors of today don't really captivate like Rudy does. ;)

  • He has that peculiar stilted phrasing that you hear in early twentieth century recordings - "pear-shaped tones" I think they called them.

  • He had quite the good range; as the early recording processes most likely did not capture all his vocal qualities. Many thanks for all your work posting this rare gem! Rudy still Rules! (For example, the original Decca recordings by the Andrews Sisters do not compare with the re-recordings by Capital in the 50's.)

  • @LaVerne37 Yes, if this record was made in the 1950s we would get a much clearer recording and a better idea of Rudy's voice.

  • He had a melancholic and masculine voice, but he was not a good singer. Anyway, his voice is seductive.

  • @evvv1010 Firstly, Rudy made these recordings for fun, and not that he wanted to start a singing career. I do agree that Rudy's voice sounds masculine. I have heard some bad singers, but i can honestly say that i can't find any fault with Rudy's singing. He can most certainly carry a tune. So, i disagree with you. I feel Rudy was a decent singer. You have to remember too that this is an old recording. Yes, his voice sounded seductive and goes with his face. ;)

  • @evvv1010 From what I read, Rudy had little voice training. If he had devoted time to it and had more training, he might have been a recording artist, but certainly could have improved on what you hear in this recording. His voice isn't bad, his pitch is fine, too. His accent makes it kind of hard to understand the lyrics, but I think his voice is very masculine--deep baritone, and the accent adds to his seductiveness. You have to remember that this was a 20's style song also.

  • Yes, he sings in that common 1920s style. ;)

  • Believe it or not, my brother's style of singing is almost identical to the way Rudy's is in this song. (What's even funnier: my brother is only thirteen years old!)

  • I am so glad I found this video Debbie!

Loved it. Love this scene from "The Sheik"

    Love the English words.

    Thanx so much. :-))

  • Hi Angie. ;)

  • Nice, masculine voice. I think he would've transitioned well into talkies; his Italian accent would've just added to his exotic appeal, like Garbo.

  • This is the first time I've seen this video and I love it. I've seen other videos featuring Rudy singing the "Kashmiri Love Song" but yours is the first featuring the lyrics with Rudy's voice. Very nice touch. I also love how you pair the scenes from "The Sheik" with the song. Very nicely done. 5*

Every time I hear Rudy's "Kashmiri" and "El Relicario" I wish with all my heart he had said something, even "Thank You", after he finished singing so we'd have a recording of his voice.

  • Rudy probably thought his voice would be heard and recorded in a talking film and through other means, but he died before it could happen.

  • I was truly hoping his speaking voice, even a very small sample, could have been captured on this recording.

I really like how you feature the scenes from "The Sheik" to emphasize the initial attraction and developing romance between Diana and the Sheik. VERY nicely done.

  • I know. I wish Rudy spoke on these recordings before or after he sang the songs. Thanks again hun. ;)

  • his singing kind of reminds me of the prince on snow white and how he sang except Rudolph's got the accent, it was nice:)

  • I think i will check out the prince in snow white then. ;)

  • yeah :) idk when i heard this thats what i thought of hee:)

  • Wow! This was fascinating to watch & listen to. That was a stroke of genius to put the lyrics on the screen....as mentioned here, the late great Mr Valentino seemed to have an extremely thick accent & I would have had NO idea what most of those words were otherwise. He wasn't a particularly large man....I thought his voice would have been higher. Just go to show ya can't judge a book by it's cover. Many thanks for sharing this delightful gem with us! :)

  • Rudy looks large enough to me. :) He is extremely handsome/sexy and manly lookin. So, i think his masculine sounding voice matches and goes very well with his appearance. Thank you for watching. ;)

  • I'm about two inches taller than Rudy was but I couldn't care less. After all, in my fantasies of him we aren't standing up, if you get my drift (hee hee hee).

  • hee your so right:)

  • Uhhh....I absolutely love how his accent comes through in this song! What a dreamy man he was! I don't think any man in hollywood now has the sex appeal he had. Wow, 80 years after his passing and he's still affecting us women!! *whew* lol

  • I love the sound of his voice. It is very sexy and goes with his face very well. :)

  • I agree.,..... He had romance, passion , raw sex appeal, - But we always felt he was a gentleman.Perfect combo. :)

  • Yes, he could be both elegant and passionate. Irresistable. ;)

  • @IrishEyez01 he's affecting not only women :)

  • I agree that when you really realize its Valentino singing, its just incredible.

  • It is exciting to hear his voice.

  • reminds me of Carlos Gardel....the father of Tango.....

  • Truly great how you combined the song with the images. Pity that the audio has a lot of noise. There must be a digital way

    to remaster the sound.

    Thanks again.

  • Thank you. Yes, the recording is so old which makes it even more difficult to hear Rudy! So, i wish the audio could be digitally improved somehow.

  • Thanks for telling me how you put this wonderful video together. Most ingenious, so very clever! It's wonderful a video wizard having such a creative and sensitive mind as to produce something as touching and beautiful as this. Thank you so much!

  • Wow. Thank you. :) I don't know what to say. I just use windows movie maker. But, you are kind and glad you like the video ok. Rudy is mesmerizing!!!

  • Absolutely fascinating, mesmerising! Is this a very clever montage or did he actually sing in this silent film!!?? Thanks for printing the lyrics, it is always hard to understand early recordings. Here it is very evident that his accent was just as good as Garbo's. He was a most intelligent man. Just give him a voice coach and he would have triumphed in talkies, seducing the world not just with his eyes and beauty but also with his wonderful manly voice! Maybe it would have been too much?

  • Thank you for your comment. :) Music accompaniment from Kashmiri song, not Rudy's voice, is heard in The Sheik where after Rudy climbs down from Diana's balcony. On one of the dialogue cards from the film, 0:48 to 1:02, shows the first few lines from the song. So, i put this video together by slowing/repeating scenes from the film where Rudy is suppose to be singing this for the length of the entire song. The record player in the video came from the Great Lover dvd.

  • I agree with you that all he needed was a voice coach, and the sound of his voice is very masculine. :) I think Rudy is incredibly sexy, and sometimes it does overwhelm me!!!

  • Very very fascinting! thanks for putting the words up. It was very hard to understand with the accent. Not bad over all. Good to hear what he sounded he like!! thanks!

  • You're welcome. It would be nice to hear his speaking voice if a recording can be found of it.

  • "In the arms of the angels..."

    Happy birthday, Rudy!

    Your candle still burns.

  • Yes, i hope he's having a good time on his birthday wherever he is. ;)

  • Hmmm... he sounds older than he looks. I have to keep reminding myself that he is in his twenties. Carried the tune very well, I think. Video was very nicely put together. Thanks for sharing it!

    Love ya, Rudy!

  • Glad you liked the video. ;)

  • Am I the only one who felt teary when listening to this song?

  • it's so good to at least have music videos of him.

  • I do agree with that. ;)

  • It's all a matter of opinion, but i am very pleased with his voice. I think it goes very well with his looks. I'm glad his voice isn't high pitched. His singing style is very much like other singers of that era. He can sing just fine despite his hard to understand accent at times.

  • Yeah. I agree to that. His voice is kinda low pitch and manly. But don't kinda suit his looks. :(

  • Eventhough he can't sing, but he can act and model! Hes a wonder!

  • I did put up lyrics because it's hard to understand all the words because of Rudy's accent. But, I think he sings just fine. He sings very much in that 1920s popular style. He sings on pitch, he sings in the right key, and he knows how to hold a note. Not bad at all. I like the sound of his voice too. Very masculine.

  • I love it! :)

  • Thank you hun. ;)

  • Hi, Debbie. Just FYI, "higgeroo" and "kangadillo" are the same person (me, Clare). I have two usernames because I use "higgeroo" for private family videos and "kangadillo" for public ones.

  • The Sheik and Cobra were my favorite films by him; love you Rudy :D

  • Those are good ones. :)

  • .......................a time .... that only lingers in the dieing hearts...of a generation that is almost gone........a young america....that WAS so much fun an carefree.......they would would be in shock now.....john locke lyric pines

  • The basic needs and desires of people don't change. But, yes, the world of today is very different.

  • Beautiful! I love Valentino and you did an excellent job with this video.

  • Thank you. I do enjoy looking at Rudy. :)

  • They sure loved to roll those "R's" in the 20's!

  • Haha! Yes they did! :)

  • i cannot get over how beautifully he sings this song. i listen to it when i write my bio on him. for the record (no pun intended) ramon navarro had nothing on him. have any of you watched "Valentino" starring Anthony Dexter as Rudy. Not an accurate plot, but most certainly the right actor. The resembelance is uncanny!

  • I haven't seen that movie, but Anthony Dexter does look similar to Rudy. But, Rudy's looks appeal to me more. He makes me swoon.:)

I do think Rudy's got a decent singing voice even though Rudy didn't think so.

  • The one effect where the record folds to the left is just a windows movie maker effect. The picture within a picture and the record playing was already on one of my Rudy dvds where they give a small clip of him singing. That is how i got the idea to use the Sheik scenes for the song.

  • How did you achieve that lovely effect where the image of the record playing folds over to one side? I love it, and I love the picture-within-a-picture effect, too. Very imaginative!

  • Thank you. :)

I have his other song too, but i haven't made a video for it. His other song, ElRelicario is good too. Others have uploaded that already on youtube.

  • Well, whatta ya know -- Rudy's Greatest Hits! Thanks for a terrific video!

  • The seller said that the recording is from 1925. They say 30 seconds long he speaks like you said earlier. They said the recording of him is clear and audible. but, i would like to know where Rudy did this, and what radio program.

  • So, i asked another question to the seller. I asked how long does Rudy speak, and if the recording is clear enough to understand what he's saying. Waiting for reply.:) I just asked also if she was positive it was Rudy speaking. Also, where did he speak and what year.

  • Thanks for checking this out. I'll look forward to what you find out.

  • I asked the seller a couple days ago if it is Rudy's singing voice that they have on the cd or his speaking voice. This was their reply :

*...there are no recordings of Rudolph Valentino singing in existence. The clip of his voice is just a brief few words. If you have an interest in him, you'll find the cd informative and fun. He was not a singer. This was a radio broadcast out of Chicago in the 1970's. It is Good!! *

I guess they don't know about the two songs he sang.

  • In the biography "Dark Lover" it says that these two songs are the only recordings of Rudy's voice. But right now on eBay, someone is selling a CD that claims to have a 30-second recording of Rudy speaking. I contacted the seller and she is "positive" it's Rudy, but she doesn't know how or when the recording was done. Can anyone shed some light on this? If you want to see the CD, go to eBay and search for item #390020273702 (I can't paste the link here; it's too long.)

  • Great JUST GREAT....

  • Bravo Rudy,bravo!

  • Woah Rudy!! Rudy!! Rudy!! This man was so damn gorgeous, and ahead of his time!! He was a "trend-setter," a natural gifted dancer, actor, poet and I'm sure lover!!! Oooh yeah Rudy! Wish I could warp back into the roaring twenties and swoon with all the damsels that waited for your image to grace the silver screen. He is like a fine work of art that intrigues us forever!!

  • Yes. I couldn't have said it better. He does excite me with his charm and looks and mannerisms and sex appeal. So much magnetism.

  • I think he sounds amazing. I wish we could have had him around longer and got him away from all those dominating women.

  • Yes i agree. He does have an accent, but he can hold long notes, and he hits all the right notes meaning he sings on pitch. He sings in that 1920s style pretty well too. Also, his voice is very masculine.

  • How wonderful this must be worth a fortune. It actually must be a very early attempt at Sound in the films. My grandmother played for silents..and mentioned that some films had vocal recordings.

  • woooooooow

  • Rudolph was extremely Hindu KUSHTY!

  • Yes, this is true, that is why he is singing a song translated from that of the Kashmir which is as in the Hindu Cush which is in the foothills of the Casmiri mountains - reliable sources have traced Romanis to the Hindu Cush

  • The actual official versions is that Rudolph's father travelled extensively with the circus. Rumour strongly suggests that Rudolph's father was in fact a Romani Gypsy, but because of the intense racial prejudice and hatred, Rudolph claimed to be Italian. After leaving the circus and settling in a permanent location, his father worked as a Vet, mainly with horses. Valentino was an excellent horseman and dancer.

  • You're welcome. Yes. I think it is a combination of things. Mostly, the recording is very old and Rudy's accent. I think he has a decent singing voice. He can hold long notes, and he seems to hit all the right notes. His singing style was a popular style in the 1920s. But, his voice sounds nice and masculine. = )

  • The recording was also done with an acoustic horn, a very primitive tool by today's standards. Nobody would have sounded their best using such a tool.

  • Thanks for that! It's difficult to understand what he's singing!
