There are ten songs on the album Blue; all of them are masterpieces, including Little Green!! She just makes it sound so perfect and intimate, while managing to have an achingly beautiful melody. I am totally in awe of this woman.
Sad song.... For the children who made him... He went away, thinking everythin is warmer there... Write poems but he's not lost to me... There will be flowers to bring to school tomorrow? Subwaycalls? Child with a child pretending... All the lies you are sending home... Sad and sorry but not ashamed... Maybe a little bit. Carry on and look at the northern light.... Never there will be a sorryyy.... =(
I have been listening to Joni since 1970. It has been said she wrote this song for the baby she gave up for adoption, she was reunited with her years later. That I know is true because she missed an awards show & the show announced she was being reunited with the daughter she gave up for adoption. I never heard who the father is. Beautiful song, amazing artist.
This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. After listening to Blue for over 30 years, I still get choked when I hear this. When she wrote this she had no idea she'd ever see her daughter again. That last "sorrow" just tears me up.
I love you Joni. You have been there in every stage of my womanhood. I don't know how you are to able to bring forth these songs. I do not have a mother, and you have been more than a mother to me, in every situation that shows up in my life I do hope you get to read this. love, Amy,.
@BejnXander google her name with each song from Blue and you tube and you'll find some. At the BBC, 1970 Joni played 'California' on the dulcimer (which she taught herself to play in Greece earlier that year) Incredible performance, great sound.
@BejnXander hey, sorry for the late reply, i now use a different account. I have all the songs (The Whole Album) available on my Blog. TheRedHippieTeenager.Blogspot.Com

I was truly touched by this song. I can only imagine how she felt giving away her daughter.

@catcando75 According to Wikipedia, the father was "her Calgary ex-boyfriend Brad MacMath."

Joni Mitchell is a genius. She is one person who after meeting her I could die saying I had done it all.

This was always one of my very favorites. So sad, it's true.
(She did actually get to reunite with her daughter and grandchildren years later, so that is wonderful.) Beautiful song.
