@kurtu5 It's exactly that initiation that I feel is ignoble. Even in a tournament I couldn't make myself "aggress". Instead, I just stayed kinetic and yes I "lost".
I've tried stairing into a mirror and showing that "thug" and even "evil" mentality that we are all capable of. I thought it was really working, but I was reminded of a quote: "Nevertheless some thoughts are useless to man; they are like waves moving in the sea without result. But if the faculty of meditation is bathed in the inner light and characterized with divine attributes, the results will be confirmed." @Streetfightsecrets I'm not at your level of study in martial arts though.
I've been learning Thugjitsu from a club in Scotland from an instructor who based his programme on your videos. It's been really enjoyable, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of your DVDs, more-so your psychological aspect. You're not a thug, but need to be able to access a 'thug area' of your mind. It's really interesting and useful as a nightclub doorman. Thank you!
hey, i can see this video is pretty old, i followed the link and that i guess is what real violence is, i live in brixton, probably the worst area of london, no chance you will be in a 1 vs 1 fight! the fact that there are 5 or 6 people against u, really lowers the odds of acomplishing anything. whats the best thing u can do in this situation? guess it wud have to be good old fashion run :D
@lechiman01 I lived in Bermondsey for 6 months, by the Milwall stadium, every time I wanted to go to the bank I had to go into Peckham, so I know what you mean. A lot of it comes down to social intelligence, being able to blend in when needed, knowing when to be assertive and how much and just not being in those "wrong place wrong time" scenarios and maybe giving potential predators a few signals youre more trouble than its worth. I cant run away from these skinny youths, they would catch me ;-)
The non-aggression principle is an ethical stance which asserts that "aggression" is inherently illegitimate. "Aggression" is defined as the "initiation" of physical force against persons or property, the threat of such, or fraud upon persons or their property.
So says wikipedia.
What you advocate is not preemptive aggression. Please don't use these words to describe yourself. What you suggest IS "spiritually advanced...morally right". Its counter-intuitive and people need to be shown this
Thank you for addressing the matter in such a balanced way ... I am a licensed minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and a martial artist, but as a "Shepherd" I have come to terms with those occasions when I (we as good well intended people full of good will toward all) must dine on the flesh of wolves. Hope that helps, if not try some Frank's Red Hot sauce. Best of Luck, stay safe, God bless.
i loved this video, some of the most feared street fighters from my area kicked so much ass because they had reckless disregaurd for thier opponents, most decent ppl dont want to hurt anyone, but if someone is going to victimize you, you must be willing to sink at least down to thier level to compete with thier immorailty. anyone can train in a "dirty fighting" manner, but it really all comes down to remaining to be a decent person and not let that beast out unless absolutely neccesary.
The thing that impressed me about your videos was that you talk about the pshycology behind fighting.A thing that you rarely see martial arts teachers do.You are a verry smart guy .Happy new year !
You speak the absolute truth, I am finding your videos interesting and educational because where I am living in north London, teenagers are always more likely to encounter violence, and they need to know what to do when its staring it them in the face.
I can see the benefits of this type of training, it would provide the right state of mind and adrenaline used in real life situations. Just wondering what they are 'Training' on?
I study Shotokan Karate, in you opinion how translatable to a real scenario do you think it is? Taking into account the mindset or 'kime' as well as the physical side of the training. @streetfightsecrets
...Maybe my wish a pipedream. But this has remotivated me to send you a copy of Kevin Secours' combat psychology DVD "Warhead". I said I'd do so a while back but I'll really try to get onto it now. I'd be very interested to find out if it added anything to yr thoughts, cheers
@CNCTEMATIC I'll be honest I wasnt blown away, Ive already trained a couple of times with Vlad and Mikhail so I think Ive seen the best of what systema has to offer - RMA concepts still interest me, let me know how you get on with the DVD
@CNCTEMATIC sorry I obviously didnt read your comment properly - I'll blame the christmas music being forced upon me this morning :) I meant the clips you sent me to previously - and dont worry about sending me the DVD mate, its a kind thought though :)
@streetfightsecrets Cool. FYI Secours has broken away from Mikhail and has re-branded his style as "Combat Systema". Amongst other things bx he thinks the former didn't use enough pressure testing and was overly mystical. It is noticably different but retains what I see as the useful parts of RMA. So I'm not so sure that you've seen what Systema has to offer. OK I won't "worry" about sending you a DVD. I may do it all the same tho :) Up to you whether you want to watch. Cheers
@streetfightsecrets Alright then, no probs, no junk mail :) BTW, I think you address the initial issue/question I raised quite well in an earlier vid linked to this one, called "cold aggression" vs "going beserk". cheers
Take your point Richie. Honestly what worries me about accessing the "thug attitude" is this: going to jail. If I were to think about nothing but inflicting harm on guys who threaten me, there's a very good chance they'd die or be permanently disabled. Then cops on my tail. 3 on 1 is justifiable but 1on1 wd be difficult. Not trying to boast; I'm not a natural fighter, but my "inner thug" is going to break tracheas, eyes, necks and skulls. I'd prefer to maintain control.
@CNCTEMATIC well then your in a minority - a good understanding of criminal law as it applies to self defense in your state / country is always recommended
@funguy29 got a lot of personal/ family issues ongoing at the moment - things were a LOT worse a month ago, but its only showing now. I'm actually doing good now, I just look like a smack rat. A chubby smack rat. :-p
alot of it is just adrenoline and paranoia, everything you do & say is a piss take and is an attack, for some you only have to look at them and they will hear voices heh im not a thug but i do have a terrortial violent temper and its trees, bins ,furniture that talk to me and take the piss, best thing is not to react to what they say, cant win someone whos over irrational, tell them i dont think that of you and talk about children family etc and be off topic, hard to hit out at someone being nice
Great vid Richie! Perfectly true. Politically correct violence, novel idea. I have something i'd like to share with you, ill send it in a personal message.
Mr. Grannon, I think you're right on target with this as always. Watching the video caused me to realize to an even greater degree that these people see violence as fun or laughable. The only way to deal with that would be proactive or pre-emptive. I also see just what you mean in regards to training methods. This group demonstrates the best way to train- as close to real life situations as possible. I am definitely going to apply this to my training. Thank you
P.S. I also start all training now from the standpoint that my opponent, in whatever form, not only wishes to take my life, but has the ability to do so. From this point of veiw, you better be prepared to access the absolute depths of animal aggression, because it is about survival. Of course, I'm a nice guy too, so I'm pretty sure my higher brain functions will kick in and stop me if I'm just going further than necessary, but thats what regular training is for. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR EFFORT!
@hotsquirrel1 "From this point of veiw, you better be prepared to access the absolute depths of animal aggression, because it is about survival." I was just discussing this exact point with a client last night. Thanks
Hi Richie, I trained in Karate for 10 yrs until I realised it dont work. Its not until I started what my teacher loosely refers 2 as 'aggression training' that I started 2 feel I was getting anywhere in terms of real life combat. It pretty much involves going ballistic in a number of ways, not too dissimilar from the Norway Stomps vid.He said that not only is this not a socially acceptable way 2 'act', but its not a socially acceptable way 2 'fight'. Now I think, 'what other way is there 2 fight?'
@hotsquirrel1 "what other way is there to fight?" - exactly, many people believe there are other ways, but this is often in my opinon a faith based belief, there are too many similarities between martial arts and religious cults
Last Friday I was grabbed by the throat by some coked up nutter in the pub. I didn't see it coming as I was talking to his mate, he thought I was trying to kick off with him (I wasn't). I can fight but I'm so laid back I'm virtually lying down and have a problem snapping into the mind set you talk of. It takes a lot of pushing before I get riled up enough to fight. To be honest he would have beat snot out of me, he was nearly twice my body weight and fired up. How can I train to snap it on?
@CreamPie9uy we've got two audio cd courses for this at the site, its kind of like a self hypnosis process similar to the visualisations athletes use: one is called the "Core Visualisation" the other is called the "Supra State"

Anyway, the video really makes me want to ask you something: Have you ever read "A Clockwork Orange"?
