  • Gotta crank this Toneful Solo.

  • Did you guys know his daugther was murdered??? NO shit!!!! By three religious zelout freaks. I cant believe it. Im watching it on "True Crime with Aphrodite Jones"

  • Just simply one of my all time favorites.

  • this song is just amazing... talk about getting it right!!

  • greatest non beatles song ever my #1 of all time i was a 14 y/o kid and it hit me with a force

  • A great voice and the lyrics of great writing

  • @MrKeepitreal50 I couldn't agree more!

  • This song is brilliant. What a great solo. Keep on rocking Elvin.

  • The lead in this song is awesome beyond belief.

  • I don't know wot all the hullabaloo is about. I do know that it reminds of a very close friend I had in Mexico when I visited there during my high school summer vacations. His name was Martin and we were like brothers. I used to tape American music since the tunes came out here first and then take the cassettes to Mexico and introduce them to Martin. This was one of his favorites and had me xlate it for him. Those were the days...

  • thats the sory of my life.

  • I really love the longer version more than the short one.

  • anybody else find this song from devils rejects?

  • @bigmoney4635 I did

  • about a milion girls....

    but actually more men.

    currently unattached- stop bothering me!

  • When I first heard this in the radio I had no idea who it was... until the guitar solo. I knew it was Elvin just by the tone and style. I figured he was sitting in on a session or something. Afrer the song, the DJ said "The Elvin Bishop Group." I thought "wow! Elvin has a hit"!!

  • Something else people don't know is that Elvin Bishop is a supreme guitarist. Used to play in the Paul Butterfield band with Mike Bloomfield, another guy that would blow 99% of today's musicians away today

  • Love this song!

  • the long version makes this song so so much better than what you hear on the radio

  • @71chiefs Your a winner!!! Everytime I hear that edited version I wanna go to the radio station and kick ass!!! Play Elvin's entire solo!!!

  • @71chiefs oh, and Mickey Thomas kicks ass too!!!

  • Mickey Thomas of the Starship singing

  • So many memories come flooding back when I hear this awesome song. I think Elvin was so hot. What an awesome talent.

  • God gave him many talents an absolutely amazing musician.

  • Learning bass and re-discovered this song - can't wait for a jam night!

  • e i phi +1=0 ?

  • How can anyone not like this? It's better than food. But, maybe there are just a number of moms that think Lemmy's voice is too harsh. I say: open your soul and allow Motorhead to plow you under.

  • Man what a voice and song.

  • I was 16 yrs. old when I saw these guys in Oklahoma City with Wishbone Ash! Got to meet them behind stage! Walked away with sighned drumsticks from the Ash! I'm 52 now and still love them!

  • @lynnellenA OH! That is SO COOL! What a wonderful memory to have.

  • Great song !

  • I like doing this lovely little 70's gem on a good drunken karaoke night, never fails to get people going, even if you were not around in the wonderful 70's you know(and probably like)this tune.Very underrated cat that Mr Bishop is.

  • This version is the best one----radio stations don't play the extended version anymore.

  • the best of the best that's it man. it happened to me. no regrets. the story of my life, i love it a lot.

  • I musta been trough about a million girls, I'd lovem' then I'd leavem alone.....I didn't care how much they cried, no sir, their tears left me cold as a stone. But then - I foooooled around and fell in loooove!

God, if music could only be made like this again....I thank God I got to experience the 7O's and the 8O's!

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • the bass is....unique

  • This was such a better era then- a better spirit existed. Then came slick lawyers and hard ball economics- the computer, to gang up with/on. CEOS enforcing homelessness. It was just about then that some exotic automobiles began to cost $50,000, which began to change the whole automotive landscape toward the expensive carrot in front of the donkey incentive to be tied to a constant misery for a lifetime. The Hindus say that one eventually becomes a slave to materialism- PLAY GUITAR instead!

  • @harponercam ...amen bro

  • Oh wow- those WERE the days and the kind of song that brings them back!

    22 years old....

  • tashanda, tashanda , tashanda, I hope you kept that baby

  • Oh, yeah, drinking homemade ice tea.

  • At Mayhews by the pool, sunbathing, smoking a joint.

  • Summer of " 76 " Oceanside, Calif 21, years old Danny McDonald forever in my heart~~~

  • Brings back old memories ... Class of 76 rules!

  • third year in college, love this song good memories.

  • Great song, what never boring

  • 1976 i was going through a very stormy time with a high school girl friend we both wanted different things out of life we ultimately split up forever ...........

  • Still Awesome !!!

  • May of '76. Great time with a great tune on the AM radio.

  • Great guitar ! Check out Eddie Hazel in Maggot Brains.

  • i love this song and i have never heard of this extended version with the extra guitar solo in the middle. the one i heard was on my parents old LP entitled ripper '76.

mixed songs from 1976. ish era

  • ' A DAY DOSENT GO BY WHEN I HAVENT THOUGHT OF TASHANDA :'( ' xD NPH in escape from guantanamo bay :D

  • this was my 1st husband Tim and my song. He died 3/10 and though I'm remarried 23 yrs it still makes me cry. alot of times I'll be out to dinner and when I think of him I hear the song play on the p.a.

  • it was 1976, here I was driving a 64 ford falcon station wagon and my girl left me for some guy with a 76 camaro . why?

  • @istaph My first car! A babe magnet!

  • @istaph ROFL id take the camero or any chevy over a ford

  • Mickey Thomas did pretty well for a good ol' boy from Valdosta, Georgia.

  • this is not elvin on vocals though.

  • You just gotta love the incredible voice of Mickey Thomas combined with Elvin Bishops guitar!! This is how they rolled back in the 70s :):)

  • Man, I played this song over & over & over in the 70's! Love that guitar! "Since I met ya Baby, Loves got a hold on Me".......

  • Reminds me of my first and only true love, I left in North Chaleston SC, 1976.

    Miss you Debbie !

  • Agree :)

  • great to hear the songs we grew up with takes you back good times BG

  • sweet..timeless classic..lifts your spirit just to listen

  • my late uncle listend to this a thousand times

  • he played slide guitar on the 1st paul butterfield blues band album; alongside late guitar prodigy mike bloomfield.

  • Shame on me = o

  • Mickey Thomas on vocals

  • this was big in the day. sounds like Mark Farner

  • @MsOldierock mickey thomas of Starship on Vocals

  • @Obelisk2290

You mean "Airplane", not Starship. This was 1976.

  • @KarlBAndersen he joined starship in april 1979

  • @Obelisk2290 You mean Elvin Bishop!

  • this is for Linnea

  • Mickey Thomas (Starship "We Built This City", "Sara", "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us Now") should get credit for this song as he's the lead vocal.

  • @icartoon2 Yep. Mickey Thomas came in after both Marty Balin and Grace Slick left. That's when Jefferson Starship went from being a soft rock band to being more of a power pop outfit.

  • @Sargebr Grace was still with them when he joined...

  • @zepploid Sorry. She left the band after a bad gig in Germany in June of 1978 and Marty Balin left that October. Thomas didn't join until May 1979 after Marty Balin left. In fact, Marty was still in the band for the "legendary" Star Wars Holiday Special. The video is on here and its just the male members of the band.

  • @Sargebri Uh ... no. Grace Slick was there when Mickey Thomas became lead singer. In fact she sang on "We built this city."

  • @FavogTheDeathKnight Dude, Grace left in 1978, but returned to the band in 1981 when they did the Modern Times album. "We Built This City" came out in 1985 and by that time the name was shortened to just Starship after Paul Kantner, who left a year earlier, sued the remaining members over the name of the band.

  • harold and kumar <3

  • This song reminds me of a sweet girl I once knew...nobody loved her and she died horribly....this song was one of her favorites and everytime I hear it I cry for my friend...Irma everyone has probably forgotten you but I never will.....This song will always be yours....I love you always...

  • Ah, my junior year in high school. I fooled around and fell in love with my husband that spring. ; )

    Love this song.

  • Best guitar solo ever.

  • @toneseeker61 i dont know about best ever, But good is up there.

  • @toneseeker61 wasn't that just...........incredible

  • @toneseeker61 You might want to check out LPSWBB's rendition of the solo.

  • @toneseeker61 There are no more guitar solos like this one. Hell, there are no more guitars!

  • One of my all time Seventies favourites, too. The years of Steve Miller, Guess Who, Three Dog Night, and this was very special. On a sad different note, I was horrified to read of the shocking death of Elvin's daughter. So tragic.

  • Love listening to this song from 76 when I graduated high school !

  • Thanks for posting the original length version....because of the way radio used to cut songs down to fit their programming most people didn't even know the song had a second verse. Outstanding work....

  • I LOVE this song!!!!! i was young once and the sun shone on my face

  • oh yea!

  • "He ain't good lookin' but he sure can play" -Charlie Daniels. Mickey and Elvin combined for a simply timeless classic rock ballad. Shamefully few fans appreciated the genius of Elvin Bishop strength....pickin' a six string!

  • @miromo123 there's a whole lot of morons who don't know what real music is - today's generation - because their parents and society never introduced them to it, yeah it is a fuckin shame - all that shit they call music they listen too, and they dont even know the roots of music, yes elvis started it, but if he didn't somebody else might have, todays idiots dont know anything about elvis aaron presley, is graceland still, its 2012 is anything sacred anymore? 8track tapes? anything?

  • @AllTheGirlsIveLoved - Actually it wasn't Elvis that started it..he made it more popular for sure...but the blues guitarists (mostly black) started it....

Although I agree, the stuff these days is shit...

  • @AllTheGirlsIveLoved A lot of todays music is NOT rock and roll based anymore. Just listen, it's just not in the same family. They are kind of like lost children out there playing soul eroding music that speaks of solitude and lonely trials and tribulations, if we are not being screamed and cursed at..WHERE are all the Love Songs that you can dance to like this one!? I remember this at my highschool dances, it was a great slowdance / makeout song!

  • @AllTheGirlsIveLoved CHUCK BERRY STARTED IT ALL, AND DON'T COMPARE HIM TO NO ONE, besides elvin bishop did not sing this song, the guy from jefferson starship did. anyways, Chuck is the KIng of Rock, he is the foundation.

  • @AllTheGirlsIveLoved

    Elvis started it?

    c'mon, man.

Fats Domino, Dave Bartholomew and Lloyd Price invented rock n roll.

  • just a fantastic song a classic that you can listen to and never get tired of hearing it-a true sign of a classic thank you mr. Bishop oceangarden52

  • The only thing I have to say - And you can ask him - he didn't write this or sing it! Micky Thomas from Heart is the singer. But what the hey - he's probably still a jerk. Elivin, people in life do remember you. Unfortunate not as you would wish.

  • @kansasdes Ann Wilson Is the singer for Heart. Micky sang for Jefferson Starship!

  • Awesome song!

  • Mickey Thomas, one of the great vocalists of modern rock, is still touring with Starship and performs this song at most of their shows, even though he was with Elvin Bishop Group when he first sang it. He still does an incredible job of singing it.

  • Here's to you Tashonda. I hope you kept the baby.

    STEVE (YCSMusic)
