Well ..... HL did do it 1st. I also hear quite a bit of Electronic, 'Pet Shop Bs influence on this JM album. But you are right, regardless of how derivative it may be, it's phenomenal music.

This is trendy commercial "pop" garbage. The fact that it is done with synths/electronics is arbitrary. Britney Spears has tunes that employ the same types of instruments and her music blows. I like "good' electronic stuff like early Kraftwerk, Human League (pre '81 before they totally sold out), Fad Gaget, Chrome, Klaus Shultz, 6FS, etc. Now please tell me how many redneck 6FS fans there are out there - inquiring minds want to know.
