The Monkees were the first Minni Vanilli fakers. They were created by corporate media and did not write or even sing there own songs. Total fakers prolly didn't even play their own instruments. Liked their songs (or someone's songs) though.
I think all races of girls had crushes on the Monkees then and now. I never did, although Davy was cute. I watched them from the 70's-today. Cute and funny show. Other goofy 60's shows I liked included Beverly Hillbillies, Batman, and Green Acres.
@TheClassica87 Thank you for saying what is in the hearts and minds of many of us.I was born in 1972 and I too knew the Monkees in reruns and their resurgence in the mid 1980's. It is sad to hear of Davy Jones passing away. I only hope he had inkling of just how many people touched and how saddened we are by his loss. They say the good die young but thankfully we had him for as long as we did. Davy, may you rest in peace. Thanks for everything.
Grew up in the 70s watching Monkees re-runs on TV (born in '69). Lived through their amazing resurgence in 1986-87. I always knew that Davy was beloved by the public, but what impresses me the most right now, only a week after his passing, is how apparently beloved he was by celebrities who knew him personally - everyone from Paul McCartney to Martin Sheen to Maureen McCormick. Lovely, heartfelt comments too by Micky, Peter, and Mike. Davy seemed a truly terrific person to knwo.
I remember when I was 10 years old (about 5 years ago) I always asked my momma how the 60's was, and that I wanted a time machine and teleporter so I could get to the USA and meet The Monkees... One of my biggest dreams today as well, but it cannot be completed :(
why can't we just listen to the music without stupid, petty bickering? whitney's been a walking cocaine-riddled corpse since the '90's & had it coming; davy was a successful former teen hearthrob of an entire generation & will be missed..
@Fcarstens1 Whitney "had it coming"? Oh geez. There before the grace of God go you. We're all human and most of us have human weaknesses. Find some compassion. I'm guessing someone like Davy would not judge Whitney so harshly. And undoubtedly didn't.
OMG I AM A 12 YEAR OLD BOY AND WHENEVER I STAY THE NIGHT WITH MY DAD, WE ALWAYS WATCH THE MONKEES, I THINK THEY WOULD BE AWESOME IN REAL LIFE IF I COULD MEET THEM!!!!!
It's so sad Davy will never know how much Peter gives to all of us in these days via facebook. He is a fine true friend and griefs me this much. RIP, Davey, I want to say thank you for so much. And please stay with us for many many years, Peter. You are a bright light to many people in this time.
@winterweib Do you mean Peter Tork? What has he said about Davy? I saw Mickey Dolenz on the Today show saying davy was his best friend and what a great man he was :( I feel worse about his death then Whitney Hustons :(
@ckotcher1 Yes I meant Peter Tork. He helped us in our grief, you know. There was a chat and we could talk to each other. One woman even asked if one of the users was Peter himself but I came too late to read so much of that user so I am not sure, but it would be possible. And he posted everything he could find and so on and made comments. It is too much to tell. I will send you the post he wrote first, its too long for here :) I read that from Micky too.Such a sad time :'-((
To clear up recent misunderstanding...Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote a good deal of the Monkees tunes that became popular on airplay. Michael Nesmeth was the bands main composer. Neil Diamond wrote "I'm a Believer".

@dicksalad11122 LMAO!!! I soooo did not expect this to pop up when I was reading the comments!!!! Someone good like Davy Jones had to die and we still got people like OJ and Charles Manson out there still living and being hateful!!! I know ours is not to question why, ours is just to do or die, but ya seriously have to wonder what God really is thinking sometimes!!! He must have needed another angel and Davey Jones fit that bill!!! RIP, Davey!!!
@TheClassica87 I soooo know that to be true, hun! It's sad to see all the good people who pass on but I know that one day we will see them again and that brings comfort to me! God bless all the good ones like Davey Jones, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and even though she had her problems and what I classify as inner demons, God bless Whitney Houston! She was a very good singer! May they all rest in peace!!!
I watched the show every week when I was a kid. Yes, early on they did not pay their own instruments and of course they had the benefit of most of their songs coming from Boyce and Hart. Even so, those four guys had talent but because of their goofy TV show they will never get the recognition that they deserve. RIP Davy.
What talent??? They could neither play instruments well nor write songs - you are still living in fantasy about your childhood idols.
"because of their goofy TV show they will never get the recognition that they deserve"
You must be friggin kidding right??? It is only because of their goofy TV show that they got any recognition at all. Had it not been for the show no one ever would have heard of these 4 talentless goofs.
@j3dmuzik What the heck is wrong with posting comments to more than ONE song? Is there a limit?? Also, the STUPID images that one has to retype is silly and pointless in my opinion.
@CaneFu Who gives a rats ass if they played the instruments or not. It's a tv show for kids back then. It takes some talent to carry a show to 3 seasons. They were brilliant performers, especially at a time when tv was still young. You coming off with so much hostility shows the depth of your character. Go back to listening to you Disco shit, and stop being jealous of davey.
Brilliant at what? Acting...I never saw any brilliant acting. As musicians? Other people wrote their songs and studio musicians played the instruments for the records and soundtracks of the show so they obviously weren't even a real band. It seems to me that the actual credit for the success of the Monkees TV show has to go the producers and not to these 4 talentless fucks.
Use to love watching the Monkees TV Series.. some music has a good vibe that brings people together no matter the country, nationality, race, color, creed, or whatever. Togetherness or ONENESS as the Tao Te Ching teaches.. Good stuff .. See ya on the other side Davy Jones #2 ;) Davy Jones number one was the guy saying aarrrrahhh ;)
RIP Davy Jones... Thank you for bringing us such wonderful memories and such wonderful music. A few people have had the gaul to criticize and bash the monkees work and accomplishments.... All I can say is it has 45 years since this song was released and its still played and fondly remembered today.... If that doesn't mean anything, than nothing does!!! And best part is it will be fondly remembered and appreciated 45 years from now!!!!!! Something good NEVER dies and neither will their memory!
I am a 13 year old girl, and me and my mother started rocking out to the monkees earlier today... She told me that everyone thought Davey was the most attractive and how he could be considered the "Justin Bieber" back then...
Honestly, I like their music better than Justin Bieber.
@lexipizzazz they didn't write or play thier own music though for a few of their first few cds. they were a tv band. and back then real talent meant writing playing and singing songs.

@Orangegummybear4 Yeah, I watched him in the 60's when I was 8 or 9 , and I'll never forget him on the Brady Bunch either! I heard that he was a young boy on the Ed Sullivan show in the early 60's he played the Artful dodger on Broadway, and he actually met the Beatles before their performance. The music of the Monkey's is still played today! I'll never forget him!
im sitting on cloud 9 trying to put my hand down witneys drawers and that cunt james brown wont shut up and that cunt jackson is shouting ssshhhamooonnnnn !!!!! what a pain in the arse man
Davey, you were my first crush. I loved watching the Monkees when I was a child and idolized you so much. Thanks for the memories babe.. I love you.. rest in peace.
@cynross69 yea my mom felt the same when iwas like 7 she was like watch the skow there talented.so rest in peace davey jones you will always b remembered.
My favorite Monkees song... I really hope Davy Jones (sp?) knew Jesus. RIP Sir, and thanks to you and your bandmates for singing a song that has reminded me of Him more times than I can count...!
I will never forgert when i saw the monkeys at the garden back in 1963 no it was 64 maybe even 65,no wait iam sixty five. Any way they did a cover of Zepplins whole lotta love and i thought the arena was going to explode Tork was better than Page, and i was a believer. I bacame a monkey fan and they made a monkey out of me.Oh what flashbacks.err imean mammories two of them
R.I.P Mr.Jones... You are missed already and I BELIEVE that no one will ever stop missing you...I know i wont stop....I love you! and I hope you enjoy your trip HOME... :) <3
God Speed to the man to gave us fun in the midst of war and never failed to make us laugh ! The Monkees' were a real bright spot in our lives as teens and Davy will never be forgotten !
People with all of the mean and cruel comments don't know what they are talking about, so keep your mouths shut !!!
I got the weirdest response from a Shamwasbetter1973?....Strange he is sending out comments that Davey jones died of Aids...How would he know...unless he was the man who gave it to him...weird comment by that person...I think he is a sham himself...because he doesn't have respect for anyone even when they just passed away....I don't know if that would even be true...and if it were..it wouldn't diminish my affection for Davey Jones not one bit...so whatever this person is trying to achieve...FAIL
@catesjd He died of a heart attack. Just go to Yahoo.com There is a posted story there of how he died... for once Yahoo did a pretty decent story that Chris Chase didnt screw with... LOL
Adios Davey ! You were a hell of an entertainer. When I was a small kid , I thought The Monkees were the greatest band ever. Thank you for the memories.
@dennisrayso I know. But It was one of the Monkees big hits so I ended up here and just made a comment. Don't be so uptight. It's really not the time.
your tambourine and your earthly body may rest in peace now. Davey your Music and your soul will live in all our hearts for ever. God Love you.Rest in Peace.
@ShamWasBetter1973 really???? the guy just died. His family is mourning. This is how you spend your time? Even if you actually had real facts, is it neccessary to share this info???? Grow the hell up.Hope you get back exactly what you send out.
RIP DAVY RIP ONE OF THE BIGGEST STARS OF THE SIXTYS AND EARY 70S ..my grandmorther use to have me watch the monkees and listen to there records ..growin up listening to them made my world a little brighter and fun

LOL

The Beatles once hosted a party for the Monkees.
The party occurred during the recording of the Sgt. Pepper's album.
Mike Nesmith attended the "A Day in the Life" sessions at
Abbey Road Studios; he is seen in The Beatles' home movies,
including one scene where he is talking with John Lennon.
Lennon said: "I think you're the greatest comic talent since the Marx Brothers.
I've never missed one of your programs." George Harrison said:
"It's obvious what's happening, there's talent there."
