Grew up in the 70s watching Monkees re-runs on TV (born in '69). Lived through their amazing resurgence in 1986-87. I always knew that Davy was beloved by the public, but what impresses me the most right now, only a week after his passing, is how apparently beloved he was by celebrities who knew him personally - everyone from Paul McCartney to Martin Sheen to Maureen McCormick. Lovely, heartfelt comments too by Micky, Peter, and Mike. Davy seemed a truly terrific person to knwo.

I watched the show every week when I was a kid. Yes, early on they did not pay their own instruments and of course they had the benefit of most of their songs coming from Boyce and Hart.
