snakes can choose how much venom they inject, sometimes they even give 'dry bites' (no venom) as a warning. It's possible this meerkat only received a minor injection of venom which was extremely painful obviously but he recovered in the end.
He literally did what everyone should do (ONLY IF you have no other choice), you lay down and go into alpha hibernation mode, therefor the biochemical reactions of venom will not be ALL in ONE SHOT, sort of like the difference between drinking a bunch of alcohol in a few minutes, and milking it throughout the day, the metabolism can do miraculous things if we allow our bodies to make the choices-decisions for us, Living in the present Moment Wisely and Earnestly-Slowly is the greatest gift weown
Ok don't make fun of me because i'm a girl.... But I totally cried like I was 5 years old again when the snake bit the meerkat... and when they went to keep him safe and warm cuddling him... Then cried even harder when he lived... I feel like such a wimp..
@pikudao lol You idiot..... without snakes and hawks our fucking ecosystem would be all fucked up. Shit learn something from your biology or science in 8th grade
@chenster420 you know that we are alive because the reptiles died long ago, this is nature and the humans command that shit now, mammals...we change ecosystens and fix it or destroy it , the human kind , not the hawks and the snakes, this is nature you fool motherfucker
@pikudao Evolution 'belongs' to no one it is a natural cycle in the universe. The 'winner' is the ultimate survivor, whether that is a mammal or a reptile or a bird it does not matter. Evolution doesn't give a shit if you're a mammal.
@limbdarkening I'm a molecular biologist, evolution is not newtonian mechanics i.e the strongest survive, the most intelligent, wise, cunning and spiritual beings win, birds that win via newtonian mechanics i.e strength might get the food, but the losing bird will evolve a new beak style so they can feed on something new, thus growing a new autonomic immune response system for metabolism of the new foods
The Newtonian mechanical viewpoint of Darwanism and its relationship to Entropy is Wrong
yes!! snakes rules bitches no arm no legs and still at the top of da food chain.Bite his lil fury ass...now if i can convince him to do dat 2 da mongoose and badger that wud make my life! =c)
@HaloKing3536 The baby meerkat survived . we have a similar animal (mongoose) in Sri Lanka. they have anti venom in their body . so Mongoose can generally kill Cobras . but humans can even die from a Cobra bite if not rushed to hospital in 2 hours.
what touches me is when his family stayed on his side... maybe that gave him the strength to hold on. this happens to us humans too, when our loved ones stays with us especially in times of illness - we find strength in their presence.
Stupid. Snakes have been part of the ecosystem long before meerkats ever showed up. Both snakes and hawks have an important part to play in the ecosystem.
The answer is NO animal is "evil" or "bastards". They kill and eat smaller things than themselves. Snakes don't kill for fun or sport or anything like that. They eat when hungry, end of story.
@chiconspiracy however a snake is less important than a meerkat, and i only called it a bastard because it attacked poor little arnie i didnt want to get technical about anything
Anyone who's suffered a venomous bite/sting etc and lived through it feels really bad for that little bastard. *look at the little marks on my hand and chuckle* It never ceases to amaze me how tough the body actually is :)
You people feeling sorry for the meerkat, that's life bitches. We're too pampered by civilization with our excess foods and cars and homes and medicine. Most animals in the world live short lives and die gruesomely.

It's actually only if they eat them; eating many venomous prey items have no negative affect on them if they eath them. Scorpions, if stung, don't truly affect them, though.
Oh my fucking god. I was cryin during this, `cause I thought the poor meerkat was gonna die. Then Simon King said he made a recovery on the 3rd morning. And I said outloud. " Well thank fuck for that !!" haahah. ( im only 12 btw. And i got into trouble for sweearing hehehe ;D)
Poor baby... I find it a miracle that Arnie was still so young and survived, when even a grown human could've died. Meerkats never fail to amaze me...
And look, all those complaining "Why didn't he help it?" He did that because film crews simply cannot interfere with the role of nature. If they saved every injured creature they found, they'd end up with a nursery, preety much. They have to let nature run its course, no matter how heart-breaking.
id like to ask that guy 1 question. How did you feel as you were recording the following moments without helping at all. = 2:05, 2:13, and 2:50 as its mother im assuming puts its head on the baby.
He still can't walk with his left leg... Well he might but, He have at lest a strick of pain go up his arm!!! i'm a animal expert!! I'm a wild life person!!!!
Ven will kill human but not meekat is because our body does not have faster antibody development then meekat. also our body DNA is different too. However that does that mean meerkat have more stronger ability then we are. Each spec have their weak gen and strong.
It could have been a very light strike with minimal envenomation - there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to snake bites, roughly 30% of bites on humans are actually dry bites.
Oh and the reason they don't fall ill from eating Scorpions is because in a split second before the Meerkat grabs it with its mouth, it tears off the stinger , which means here is no venom threat to it, making it like KFC to Meerkats. Yummy. :P
Seems like a lot of the bites recorded on film are from puff adders. Flower was bitten by a cape cobra(which has a very powerful venom) in the face. She might have survived like Arnie or Rocket Dog if it had been a puff adder.
Yes, AngelXmikey iis right. Like most animals, being bit in the face will obvisously lead to swelling around the wound area, e.g Flower from Meerkat manor (Her face swelled up badly) and, like Arnie shows, will most likely lead to Paryplasia, and the Venom will be quickly transsmitted to the brain, causing colossal brain damage, leading to death. But Meerkats have some sort of blood cell which can override venom cells.

I liked it when the show made it look like there was just the meerkats, but when they show sergent douchebag blurbing about how amazed he was that the meerkat survived while they were right in front of him, it takes away the feeling and purpose of this documentary.

the people filming don't need to take care of him at all. that's the whole point of documentaries - to show the real wild, not the wild with the aid of humans. plus, humans helping would take away the meerkats' abilities to do things for themselves.
der awesome just think that bite could have killed a man but da meerkat...only caused him sickness for a few days THERE SO AWESOME...if only they were that good in being not easy to eat

if the people filming takes care of it, the meerkat loses the ability to survive on its own in the open... THATS worse off than being killed

the people filming don't need to take care of him at all. that's the whole point of documentaries - to show the real wild, not the wild with the aid of humans. plus, humans helping would take away the meerkats' abilities to do things for themselves.
