I don't think 'looking alike' is the most important criterion when looking for the actors for Death Note. It's more important that they capture the atmosphere and typical emotions of the characters. Like I could actually see Cillian Murphy for instance as Light, because he sometimes has this emotionless stare which suits Light. Etcetera.

Well for Ryuk the character is all CG so why not use the voice actor from the anime. Hell he did the Voice of Ryuk in the Japanese live version why not the American remake.
They should put Nicholas Hoult in it, he'd be amazing as some character, he's such a good actor. But I'm not sure which, I don't think I could see him as a main character but who knows. Kristen Bell would be amazing, but I'm not sure about her being Misa. It just, I don't know, I don't see it.

To be honest, and don't take this in a racist way, but if you're going to make a movie based on Death Note, ALL THE JAPANESE CHARACTERS SHOULD BE PLAYED BY ASIAN ACTORS! Characters like L can be played by American actors because he has a somewhat unclear ethnicity, but other than that, if they're this race in the manga, they're this race in the film.

I dunno about Johnny Depp. Sure he could do the role, but it'd be difficult and expensive.
A much easier, and cheaper, way of casting Ryuk would be to throw a little makeup on Gary Busey, and have him just wander around the set.

Um, The first one has better hair, but the second one has the attitude for Mello, Second maybe.
First one for Misa
First one for Mikimi (Though the second ones glasses are so perfect)
As hard of a desision it was, the second one is best for Watari.
The first one defenetly for Yagami's dad, perfect, especially with the gun.
I don't know Matt well enough to make a judgement on him.

either way they are gonna fuck it up because death note is all about the japanese people. The US version would have to change alot, like japans best student. shinjuku, Kanto etc. Task force wouldnt be japanese etc.

I dont really care anymore. Theyr milking the title death note, like everything else, resident evil, the ring etc. I'll still check it out when this comes out but i wont expect it to be any good unless they change the story alot and somehow make it good.

Well for Ryuk the character is all CG so why not use the voice actor from the anime. Hell he did the Voice of Ryuk in the Japanese live version why not the American remake.

They should put Nicholas Hoult in it, he'd be amazing as some character, he's such a good actor. But I'm not sure which, I don't think I could see him as a main character but who knows. Kristen Bell would be amazing, but I'm not sure about her being Misa. It just, I don't know, I don't see it.

I really hope they do NOT make and american death note. I am an american and I think we would fuck it up. The real death note move with Matsuyama Ken'ichi and Fujiwara Tatsuya was great. just leave it alone people. besides..the remake always sucks!!!!!

To be honest, and don't take this in a racist way, but if you're going to make a movie based on Death Note, ALL THE JAPANESE CHARACTERS SHOULD BE PLAYED BY ASIAN ACTORS! (Unless Light is played by Zac Efron, of course, but that would only be for laughs XD. I'm sorry, I just think that would be hilarious...). Characters like L can be played by American actors because he has a somewhat unclear ethnicity, but other than that, if they're this race in the manga, they're this race in the film.

Any way if US remakes Death Note, there is a 80% chance they will screw up... but who care. what do you have to lose. I the film is horrible don't see it. If it's good that would be the best. Ether way I want to see the results.

Its too bad you changed your mind on Kiera Knightley as Misa, because I actually agree with that original choice. I mean, as long as Knightley fills up, she can look hot enough for the part. Plus I feel she's a good enough actress to be able to pull a Heath Ledger/Joker surprise mindfuck of a performance. I don't know, I just have a feeling about it.
