  • @lucaslmgv .........Johnny marr could play this on a cheese grater and make it sound superb

  • @Davidmh1971

YEah, sure. But it sounds better on his jag

  • Marr is superb guitarist

  • Some band's singers are betther than other band's singers...

  • Some bands are better than others...

  • send me a pillow and ill send u mineeee x

  • from the ive age to doll age,,, i have but just 1 concern :} :} :} love you morrissey keep going

  • @robertvernon88 it's "from the ice age to the dull age" ;)

  • @loopernow I think he's saying "dole age," "dole" being an archaic word for sorrow or mourning. How wonderfully melancholy. :)

  • @CastleMysterio No Dole as in State Benifits! Sign on the Dole!

  • @BruisedArcade09 That occurred to me, too.

  • Johnny "fucking" Marr, this is pure genius. Some bands are bigger than others.

  • @gstrafkos84 haha will do, maybe i'll throw in a little background music "heaven knows i'm misereable know" might be fitting. @killerwayz/swarmmaster if morrissey and freddie mercury have had a three way with some random chick, perhaps some DVDA action so that the jizz could intermingle, then in 9 months they would have been the fathers to the greatest frontman of all time. Flabbergasted gents? I just posted that to see how butthurt people got and also to hear a witty retort or two.

  • Fuck subparsauce

  • i'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater than listen to the smiths

  • @SubParSauce Suit yourself.

  • @SubParSauce Then fuck off and do just that. Don't visit a Smiths video if you hate them dumbshit.

  • @SubParSauce

if u do, can u post the video of it on utub?

  • Marr and Morrissey make music unlike any other..

  • The most magical ending to a song you could ever imagine. Johnny Marr must have thought to himself in the last 30 seconds wow, I made this! I love the bass line so much on this song. Wonderful!

  • Johnny Marr is a genius. Doesnt miss a note of an encredibly hard song to play. One of the best riffs ever as well

  • I had this version on a re- released cd single of "there is a light that never goes out" from the early 90's. I never knew there was video footage of it. The quality of the recording from the cd is very good and worth owning if you can find it.

  • So beautiful

  • espectacular!!!

  • I've always been a Johnny Marr girl but Smiths fan who only give attention to Mozza cant deny that the spotlight here is on Johnny and Andy only! BLOODY BRILLIANT!

  • @NavLfc Aye lass

  • When Morrissey says that he has never worked with finer musicians than his current band you can't help but wonder what he's been smoking.

  • Is Morrisey biting his thunb at someone for throwing something on stage at 1:45-1:50?

  • One of the best riffs in history. genius

  • johnny marr is so underrated

  • Johnny marr is a fucking wizard!!

  • Best version of this song i have ever heard

  • THEEE BESSSSTTTTT

  • amazing

  • johnny marr is just a bloody brilliant guitar player. and the riffs he writes are astonishing.

  • Have they made this verson? I like this better

  • oh my morrissey.

this is fantastic, sounds like an early morning

in the country as the dew of the grass glistens

    to the sun rise.

  • with some girls it's like being a hotdog in a bun; with others it's like being a clapper in a bell -- is that what he's talking about?

  • @SupernalOne With me it's more like trying to wedge a cucumber into a cheerio.

  • @xILambyIx

    wrong hole

  • @SupernalOne Damn... Maybe that's why she was crying.

  • Johnny Marr....fantastic..!!!

  • how could hate this ?

  • 6 people don't like the fact that some girls are bigger than others

  • på den här tiden va vi inne på både punk och indipop!!! tror jag??

  • @tzelen Absolutey tru. Yngwie plays a million a notes per sec and he never misses a note. He´s brilliant. Well, in a few hours I´ll watch Morrissey play live in Sweden. Bad comment, this.

  • @MrJeppelin Poor sod....sorry your concert didn't happen.

  • @BooNube Horrible indeed, even Yngwie would break into tears...

  • @tzelen I disagree, I think Marr is one of the best guitarists ever. This Charming Man.

  • absolutely amazing piece of music.... absolutely impressive , great , there are jno words to describe how good this song band were..............

  • this doesnt require the best guitar skills? this song actually requires so much skill to play. johnny marr ftw!

  • @PurpleHat1991 It doesn't take much to play, but it takes a lot to play it well. Anybody can play it with enough practice, but to be as good as Marr is here, you've really got to be the proverbial dog's bollocks....

  • @TheTenderhooligan doesnt take much to play? -facepalm- just stop now. you're killing me.

  • Well Done uploader, what a good film and sound, and oh what a band, those guitar phrases absolutely heartbreaking stuff, and the vocal a tragi-comedy and wistful, it's hood to see that news about this clip is getting around and people are tuning in, one of the best clips of them on Youtube, a treasure.

  • THIS IS SO BRILLIANT. YOU MAY SEARCH, BUT YOU'LL NEVER FIND SOMETHING LIKE THIS. ORIGINAL IS THE APPROPRIATED WORD.

  • This is from their final tour, isn't it?

  • Comment removed

  • Can't get enough of this live version!

  • @tzelen Tiny screw-up at 4:05, but that's all I could find. Marr owns.

  • @splaticon5 I think he meant to do that... Either way I think it works.

  • @splaticon5 i didnt hear it

  • MARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • crying music though wonderfull really getting at something

  • hot tranny mess and I mean that in the most homosexual ly great way.. Love the analog meets digital delivery device universe simpatico .. dddu... long live analog~ log live vinyl℈℥ΩℲ℔

  • @tzelen Doesn't get any more true in my opinion. Since I started learning guitar; I never understood why people had to feel that unless a guitarist played at a million miles an hour then they weren't great. Marr was the greatest display of that, that I could ever muster. Guess that's why I have his name buried under my skin in ink...

  • qué increíble con qué facilidad arrastra los "trastes" increíble, parece que toca la guitarra con magia!!!!!!!........ cuántas notas serán por segundo!!!

  • @tzelen

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, part of Johnny Marr's style (and brilliance) is playing many notes at once to create a very full sound, as if there are three or four guitarists playing. I think he said in an interview that he wants his playing to sound like an orchestra, or something to that effect. He succeeds incredibly, as there is NEVER a dull moment with him.

  • We're always talking about the incredible talents of both Johnny Marr and Morrissey but the bass licks are also awesome!

  • @BistouflyTheGreat exactly. andy rourke was so tight. as a group they were awesome

  • i am crying

  • I just love this melody, only Johnny Marr can create such great chord progressions.

  • Can someone PLEASE correct the mistake in the title? I HATE it when people confuse "than" with "then".

  • @supersonickaisa totally. its a gen y thing. i know young teachers who do it these days.

  • @rohanhaggart Paha bullshit dear fellow, it's what Generation Y call a 'typo.'

  • @IndieExplorer No way. It happens way too often to be a random typo. This is not meant as a critisism of gen y, no need to get defensive. just an observation. if anything, it would be the fault of those who taught gen y.

  • @supersonickaisa

There's a Smurf who talks like you !!

  • @supersonickaisa I hate this too and also I hate it when people mistake "you're" with "your"

  • Marrs will never b matched he is GREAT

  • Curious is this available as dvd bootleg?

Next best thing from missing the smiths live!!!

  • @tzelen this actually isnt that easy of a song to play

  • itsacooltrack.

  • @tzelen ok so listen Heaven Knows im miserable now

  • send me the pillow... the one that you dream on...

  • Argue all you want about who the best guitatist or whatever is but this just seems to sound better than anything else when you listen to it. Especially the intro. There's lots of versions on youtube and credit to all of them but none of them touch this one and only live version.

  • @tzelen sounds like he missed a note at :25

i luv marr btw not hating

  • @longview1987 Just want to say he doesn't miss a note. That's him moving his hand whilst the note was still ringing out.

  • I just wanna cry 'cause the sound of the guitar is amazing ! Thanks Johnny Marr you make me happy everytime I listen to the Smiths !

  • one of the best bands in the entire history of music

  • Puxa, as primeiras notas ... que louco!

  • i definitely live in the wrong decades

  • A voz dele tá uma m... aqui

  • Snif!

  • Super

  • vintage at its finest!

  • rifftastic

  • better band without craig gannon...but a bit thin live!!!!

  • @tzelen i agree but disagree Marr's right hand intricacy is unparalleled and requires a great deal of skill

  • Охрененное

  • That ending riff could go on for 15 minutes and I would still think it's not long enough. It's absolutely hypnotic and incredibly clever.

  • this is the definitive version of this amazing track. cant believe i've never heard this before. where was this filmed?

  • @ONDERON101 It was filmed in London at the Brixton Academy, December 12,1986. This was their last performance. In one of my documentaries it's brought up that Morrissey added the extra lyrics so Johnny could play the dreamy guitar part longer. What a f'kin' treat!

  • a well-hidden gem this video...

  • This is quite eerie. The only ever live recording of this, captured by complete chance with a very low quality camera that just adds to the eerieness. Just think, had that guy decided to leave his camcorder at home that night none of us would be watching this masterpiece right now.

  • @spectre0075 Apparently, it's about how Morrissey spent so many years of his life without paying attention to women's bodies, and never realising that some girls are bigger than others.

    As simple as that.

  • "As Anthony said to Cleopatra, as he opened a crate of ale, ohhhhh i say....."

  • I can't believe guitar can sound this good. I can't believe I lived 20 years of my life without finding this band. Everyone just sounds so fucking unique and good.

  • @aaronmmarty Man it's so weird you say that, I'm in EXACTLY the same position. 20 years into this and I've only discovered their music, completely blown away.

  • Johnny marr. Fuck he's so cool. Moz omfg just odbnjiovrntgobvjur. The best musical pairing who have ever existed

  • fucking talented bastard. I'll have his head!!

  • 6 people are actually revolting.

    how can you dislike this!?

  • some boys are bigger then others.......hahaha

  • @tzelen Right On Brother

  • @tzelen Exactly. Hell, the little guitar riff at the end of the song is seriously one of my favorite guitar parts of any song ever recorded, and it's not difficult to play at all.

  • i was there brixton last gig

  • The intro is so beautiful

    I fucking love Marr

  • On the shop floor there is a callender,as obvious as snow,as if we did'nt know...

  • Great musicians

  • @tzelen True that. But most guitarists admit to be unable to play the way he plays. Totally unique and totally brilliant

  • Cool guitar

  • @tzelen Dont be taken in by the "simplicity" of Johnnys guitar work his stuff is certainly not easy to play he just makes it sound that way but your right he does make every note count and his arpeggios are very intricate and subtle and most importantly melodic and therein lies his genius

  • fabulous......Morrissey and Marr ....genius

  • the last concert they played T_T

  • Check out 'Convalescence Kid: Nothing left to lose' This guy is pretty awesome!!!

  • AMAZING SMITHS RULESSSSSS

  • Hi

    Is this your incredible video?

Do you know where this concert took place?

    Best,

    x

  • @lozza1000 Brixton Academy

  • beautiful song

  • Can't stop watching or commenting this... Johnny Marr steals the show!

  • I bought the exact audio tape of this at Camden Markets in, I guess, early '87. I know exact because the crowd comments heard are just as I remember. Then, all these years later, I can see it and hear it again. Thanks Steve of Soundsville International, this recording is part of my life as a young man.

  • I was there

  • best song ever!

  • i can't listen to this, it's too good

  • to further that, I think Morrissey's lyrics betray the exquisite nature of this song, he should have put a little more effort into it..this song could been ten times more epic with the proper treatment..anyone agree?

  • @THEYLIVE2012 I thought so too in the beginning, but really I think the "easy" lyrics contrasts against the song in a very interesting way. It's almost like the tune give the words a whole other meaning, one that's just an inch out of reach, that I can't fathom no matter how I try.

  • Comment removed

  • @tzelen thats one thing i noticed as well...not one note is missed...pretty incredible because it is a spacious song with a lot of string skipping and not only does he not miss a note, he keeps the rhythm effortlessly I don't know about you, but Johnny Marr is probably the most underrated musician around...this is gold

  • @THEYLIVE2012 I have to agree.I was given this album in the 80's during my twenties,in 87,I was 27

an I remember listening to it on my walkman on a streetcar in Toronto( late spring early summer) like it was yesterday.

Fantastic album,I wore the thing out.

It really is to bad that guitarists like Johnny Marr are over looked... he definitely inspired me.

  • @THEYLIVE2012 I don't think you can call him underrated -- he's usually (and correctly, imo) hailed as a musical genius :)

  • @MSimp2k6 yeah but hardly anyone knows him, unless you're a smiths fan or a serious music fan...I mean Johnny Marr isn't as well known as John Mayer, which is a shame i wish i could play like Marr....if one day I could wake up and have that crazy system he devised in my own mind, id be a happy man

  • Good music

  • Johnny and Andy... oh god.

  • i'm a girl bigger than others :)

  • Perfection

  • So simple, so great

  • Wow...Pure gold. This is from the Brixton Academy gig, right? There used to be videos of every song from that show on youtube, sadly they got pulled off. If you have any more videos of this concert, please post them.

  • Thank you, as well.

  • The guitar sounds like polished glass. I'm practically in tears.

  • likewise.

  • Best intro ever. Marr & Mozza are pure genius.

  • I watch this video everyday... Can't get enough of The Smiths and the rarety of this video...

  • "SEND ME THE PILLOW, THE ONE THAT YOU DREAM ON, AND I'LL SEND YOU MINE..............."

  • They need Craig Gannon on this song.

  • This is YouTube gold - thanks so much!

  • LEGENDRY FOOTAGE!I MIGHT ADD!

  • JONNY MARR STEALS THE SHOW MAGIC ON THE STRINGS AWSOME SONG

  • does anyone know what the third verse is exactly?

  • @guywiththerockfistup - On the shop-floor, there's a calendar, as obvious as snow, (as if we didn't know)

It's a lyric to back up that the song was about tits. but Morrissey came up with it at a different time so he didn't include it in the recorded version :)

  • @guywiththerockfistup The third verse goes

    "As Anthony said to Cleopatra

as he opened a crate of ale"

  • also morrissey sounds drunk as shit!

  • this is bum note/bad tuning or something, right? correct me if i am wrong.

  • @creedencelearwater It's played with a capo at the fourth fret putting it in the key of G#, as opposed the album version which is in E.

  • If only I could turn back time and go to one of their gigs.

  • The guitar riff is one of the most beautiful in the history of rock music, I swear.

  • WHY in the world did they disband?? i dont fucking understand!!!!!!!!!!!
