I think the Schönberger-Laumman was the first semi-automatic pistol in 1892, whereas this was 1893. However, the Brochardt c93 was the first commercially successful semi-auto.
@pizzafan1234 actuly the luger p.08 was invented in 1898,and adopted first by the swiss in 7.65x21mm parabelum in 1900 then adopted by the german military in 1908 in 9x19mm parabelum.

the borchardt c96 was the predecesor of the mauser c96, however production ceased due to the competion from mauser.

@tina6581 yes, you are, sort of. it was made by Hugo Boreschat (sp?) when he moved to hungary. it was a basic design for the P08.

@akdude182 The P08 Luger was invented in 1898. Production started in 1900 by DWM. It was used in the german army starting in 1908.

@pizzafan1234 Actually the 1911 is based off the M1900 which led to the 1902 38. the borchart was the first fully manufactured semi auto pistol.
