How can a person even respond to a man who so clearly filets his soul and dissects all the pain that he feels about relationships? He seems to not just do it while experiencing heartbreak he instead seems to relish the experience and prolong it through his writing. I hope before he leaves this planet that he can find another soul worth bearing his to that is truly worthy of the extraordinary person that he his. He loves life and deserves to have the shards taken out of his heart and healed.
This is poignant, articulate work from my favorite Rollins book, "Solipsist". Sometimes I think "Black Coffee Blues" is his best, but Solipsist is the volume I always come back to.
And by the way, for us writers, our personal diaries, and our observations are all we have. I am working two jobs, I am a writer and a musician, and I dont give two shits what anyone thinks. I do it because I love it. Rollins does the same thing. He's not perfect, but he is a friend of mine. Now, on that note, please quit critiquing what you will never be able to top or relate to, because critics are failed fucking artists. Stop talking if you have nothing good to say.
Here's my two cents. Quit arguing about opinions. I put this up here for people to listen to. But if people are going to sit here and badmouth a person that I appreciate, I will either remove my stuff permanently, or delete comments that are negative. Please stop posting negative comments. Thank you.
Don't sweat critics like sheLovesG. It's just an opinion. Rollins is definitely not the best writer, singer/songwriter, etc. But one thing he has: dedication and tenacity. He has always been about his work (books/music) and getting it out there. if you were into it, great; if not, great. Either way was fine. Rollins has evolved over time. Some people are still clinging to the 80s and 90s. Just accept that he's an individual out there DOING IT instead of TALKING ABOUT IT.
'In the end what you don't surrender , the world just strips away.' ~~B. Springsteen~~ Henry's books are a good antidote to self pity, and depression.
Its good to see through things. Its the sign of an evolved mind. And I think yeah Henry does push buttons. Sometimes when he pushes mine, it really makes me more aware of my own deficiencies as a person...I think its marvelous that a 45 year old mind would have this kind of awareness...I think he was younger too. When you listen to him now, there is a bit of a softness to him that never used to be there...I guess life kind of wears us down over time. I am 33 now. Give me ten years. Heh.
I dont mind being a consumer of words that make me self aware, or help me articulate what is going on inside myself. I think anyone who reads it can relate. And yeah, we all have been through it. And its not a revelation, really, just someone bringing to light a piece of the human condition. I will take it, thanks. I think every writer is successful because of the fact that they articulate that which is not original, and bring it to light. It is why people read, and why they seek validation.
Rollins isn't "sincere" enough for sheloveG's mature, 40 something intellect, which he/she finds insulting. Furthermore, he's too crass and manipulative of his readers according to shelovesG. And he tries to make us think that some of his experience are unique when they're not. Well, if you have something to share that's more original and authentic and better crafted, I'd love to see it...
The difference is I'm NOT presenting myself as someone with unique insight, nor am I trying to sell my personal diaries(tedious), mediocre poetry or tickets to "spoken word"(unfunny comedy) shows. It's also not my problem that you're a devoted cult follower incapable of critical thinking.
No, you're just a self-appointed critic, at least in this case. But maybe you're onto something. You should rescue all of us Rollins fans from our brainwashed state. Anyone who doesn't dislike him, as you do, clearly lacks independent thought. How silly of me? By the way, does everything have to be about age with you? And why are you commenting on something you don't even like? I rest my case.
I think hes been through some trauma that has impeded his ability to be consistent, and truly trust without turning the tables. I guess I posted this one because what he actually says I do believe...but Rollins is a performer, so its possible that he may be embellishing things too...

It's my favorite of the bunch as well...I also really love the collection of essays in Eye Scream...I read that one over and over as well.
