Many are close to cities which have naturally warmer climates based on the amount of concrete, black tops , heating and air units, and heat from vehicle and engine exhausts etc etc. This is a KNOWN and hotly argued topic among SCIENTISTS. if the temperature reporting devices are placed to close to a heat source ( as thousands are ) then the overall temp avg. is going to show false highs.

The term Climate Change is a recent one to explain away the cold weather. Pierce Corbin has a company that predicts weather more accurately than most. He does it based on solar activity. Even NASAs charts show a definite corealation between solar activity and temperature, whereas, as Pierce pointed out, the temperature has dropped even as C02 has gone up For 40 years between 1940 and 1980, and again the past few years. Global Warming is silly. We had a global cooling scare at the end of the 40 year cooling period in the late 70s.

@kotapaka i totally agree,in fact I lean more toward a natural process than the man-made theory. But does that change the consequences? If we are capable of changing a natural process, should we do so?
If a comet the size of Alaska were to strike the Earth and kill everything larger than a microbe, that would also be a naturally occuring phenomanon. Would we be wrong in doing what we could to prevent such a thing from destroying us?
If the technology exists to save us ;use it I say....

The other thing is that everything which is good about modern society is connected to energy. Cars, computers, electricity, heating, cooling etc everything is energy.
So if CO2 doesn't effect the process (i.e. its a natural process such as ice ages) we don't have to do anything. THese guys are trying to create a product on which people will spend money by convincing people of globalwarm

In fact we haven't even exhausted 40% of the current wells and not all oil deposits are found. I'm disappointed with Bjørn Lomborg for this. Fence sitting seems reasonable but isn't.
Even if science were democratic, no poll of scientists has been done. I get the impression that not only isn't it a consensus, anthropogenic warming isn't even the majority view.
At least he's the type who will change his mind when the science gets through to him. He is sceptical in the truest sense, and will continue to question his own position.
If they were all like him, AGW would be far more credible.

Piers has a much better record of making accurate forecasts than the UK Met Office who's long range forecasts have been totally wrong: eg. they predicting a 'barbeque summer' this year (it was a washout), and a mild winter last year (London shut down due to the freeze)
