@adcstmh He was diagnosed with mesotholioma in 1979, a type of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. He'd been exposed to asbestos during his military career and his race car hobby. The cancer metastised and several cancerous tumours developed in his abdomen. He died following surgery to remove these tumours.

I'll never forget seeing the opening scene of LeMans when Steve drives the course in his 911. McCool. Lots of scenes, bouncing the ball against the wall in the great escape and jumping the fence. Too many more. The good die young.

Very nicely rendered tribute. The selection of the Collie song was chilling as it accompanied the photos. So if McQueen had lived what other films might he have made? The story/screenplay for "Fancy Hardware" could have been a wise choice, and with a co-star like Tuesday Weld or Farrah Fawcett. I also could have seen Steve doing "Tender Mercies." Any other ideas?

Very nice tribute, and the song really works well with it.

McQueen and Paul Newman were always my favorite male actors growing up. Newman did comedy better, but both had that cool, dangerous edge that they made look so easy, but obviously isn't since there's not an actor working today who can touch either of them in that regard.

Steve was my dads favorite actor. Steve grew up in a home for boys, Chino CA, and donated a bunch of money to that home, and also went back to visit regularly. A good guy! I was a paper boy when he died for the Herald Examiner, and remember the front page. R.I.P.

My favorite movie by Steve McQueen was "Nevada Smith", then "The Great Escape", "Sand Pebbles" and "Papillon". Bullet was a good movie but the story wasn't that much, without that fabulous chase scene it wouldn't have made it.
