@simonotterberg sure it is. I have done it many times. All you need is a male: male cable (don't know the correct technical word for that). What I mean is, male jacks at both the ends of the wire. Insert one one in the 3.5 headphone compartment of your iphone and the other end in digital hub of your speaker. Hope this helps.
Sure. Not every laptop has SPDIF outs, and when they do it is rare that it is more then a 2ch out. I recommend an external soundcard if you want 5.1 from a laptop.
My Laptop, like most peoples, doesn't have a SPDIF output, so I use a, external USB soundcard, which had an optical out. I just hook up my Z5500 using an optical cable from the soundcard and happy days, Itunes has never sounded better!
hey i have a problem with the intensifier, it starts to blink and the sub starts to "wooooof" by it's self. i think its bad connection, but the cable seems fine. what can it be?
hi, i have one question, i have a HP DV7-3085dx and i want to buy the Z-5500 but i need to know if i can use all the functionalities of the speakers like the 5.1 channel and others, thanks
@pollolin2000 Ahh yes, that is quite a large problem.
It tends to happen quite often, thankfully an LED backlight does not affect sound quality. Anyway, it is quite poor that it does occur, but I can not do anything about it.
I have the same toshiba laptop (Toshiba P200) and Logitech Z-5500. If i buy the optical cable including the mini jack. Is this enough to get SURROUND SOUND? People tell me that laptop CANT' T give surround sound but only 2.1???
I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1123us and it doesn't have a SPDIF headphone jack. I know I can get the minimum features of the logitech z-5500. Is there any way to get digital surround sound with my laptop? If so, what would I need? Thanks.
Unfortunately you will only be able to use the Logitech Z-5500 with minimum features. In example, you could just get a 2 channel stereo signal, so no digital or even surround sound =(
There is of course external sound cards, I advise you look into some external sound cards for your laptop, or if you please, ask me and I will look around for you, so long as you provide me with a budget to work with.
@DaTechGuru i have a ASUS N73SV whit Spdif output.. i want to use the sweex 7,1 external sound card.. could you plz tell me where to put al the plugs of the 5500?? i am a bit of a noob:P
hey, i have the hp pavilion dv3-2130ea and im think of buying the Logitech Z-5500 Sound system. Will it be compatible? if not what will i need to make it compatible and will the qualitiy still be the same?
I just looked up the specs for the laptop you stated, from the specs, the jack/s that came to interest are; the headphone jack, the headphone jack guarantees that a minimum connection can be accomplished, the Logitech Z-5500 will be limited but comptabile with your laptop, for example, you will recieve an analogue signal that has 2 channels, left and right, so no surround sound or digital signal from your laptop to the Z-5500. Feel free to ask further questions.
Unfortunately a headphone jack does not allow for a digital signal what so ever. You can of course simulate 5.1ch surround sound with certain programs, but it is usually not as good as the real thing, if you have further questions, please feel free to ask.
If your Xbox and PS3 are connected to your TV through a digital connection and then a digital output on your TV is connected to the Logitech Z-5500 control panel, it will work. I need a better description to help you further, better yet, a video if possible. Also feel free to ask any other questions of interest.
It will work, so long as a digital output from your TV is connected to a digital input on the Logitech Z-5500, such as a Toslink cable, an optical connection essentially. Please feel free to ask any further questions.
If you haven't got s/pdif on your laptop, the best thing to do is to buy creative sound blaster 5.1 sound card which is usb and there you go, and you will get better sound then your laptop sound card would give you any way..
Hi, what's the 96-24 thing on the control pod that shows?

@DaTechGuru Okay, so I'd need an external soundcard. Is there one you'd recommend for the z-5500? And how does the soundcark hook up to the laptpo?
