  • I NEED ANOTHER SHOT...

  • it takes a fuckin genius to go deep down inside and pull some shit out like this then compose it into a song. this what these "artist" dont understand today, u got to go in and pull some shit out. let life be your lyrics not fantasy.

  • he's right in that song especially fro the one who have a lost love. I love it

  • there is no such thing as jesus but if there was a jesus he wouldn't been jesus he would of been marvin gaye.

  • @MrCalculus999 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." pslm 14:1

  • i feel like this right now... ain't seen nothing but trouble baby.. hate when i get like this.. talk crazy i'm fucking you up.. don't trip girl. it's how i am

  • @FallbackMuzik Hold on my friend ,better times ahead surely!

  • he sounds like curtis mayfield in this song even tho he sings a million times better den him lol

  • @MIKZ562 Curtis Mayfield was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. There's no need to diminish him when giving props to Marvin Gaye.

  • sooo stupid minded....

  • this song can bring anyone at peace....

  • when's the last song an artist made you shake your head and close your eyes because of simply being so good that it pierced you through and through?? on EVERY song?!?!!

  • Amazing, he could be the best ever.

  • @BlueMagicVaults could be? how about he is. never did the same thing twice and was a talented singer/songwriter

  • Who would have thought that something so dark could come from such a gifted man?

Had to listen to it a few times before I said "Damn, Marvin done went in the dungeon on this one".

It a beautiful song on the surface but his pain resonates throughout and by the

end of it you almost want to cry as he begs to be released from his tormented life.

Don't ever think I have been more sadder than the 2:24 I spent listening to this song.

R.I.P. Marvin, you are truly missed.

  • MYYY LORD....listen to that beat and then the lyrics are so real and so sad...smh..WHY THE GREATS HAVE TO FALL SO SOON

  • eventually this song became flyinh high in the friendly sky. kinda wish he would have keep this name sad tomorrows

  • Real music, real music, kidsssss... NOW TAKE NOTES CHILDREN, THIS IS REAL MUSIC!!! NOT THAT MAINSTREAM BS!!!

  • My all-time favourite Marvin Gaye song. I couldn't imagine my life today if I had never heard this.

  • 1:30 is where it gets very sad.

  • @lifestraight Sad, but so beautiful at the same time. That last minute is probably the most evocative moment in music that I have ever heard. It hits me right in the chest.

  • The saddest 2:24 in music history.

  • The saddest 2:24 in music history. I just recently "discovered" Marvin. I always knew who he was, what with Grapevine and Let's Get It On, etc. but I never knew the depth of this great man. God definitely made him special and put him here to spread his mesage of love and brotherhood. Now he's leading the choir in heaven, I've no doubt.

  • @ltlwing47 I'm glad you made this discovery.. because this is the marvin i was raised off. :D

  • Through our short comings as human beings we never loose the ability to love and the need for redemption.

  • how can a song about drugs sound so good

  • @9577frasier

that's an easy question to answer ...... marvin was good at what he did even if he was strung out on drugs

  • this is really haunting and beautiful. the outtro touches you real deep in your gut, especially when he starts riffing on the melody. "take me away, take me away..."

  • I started listening to Marvin after a long hiatus...I've recently been rediscovering artists..does anybody else hear/see D'angleo when they listen to Marvin?

  • Talk about soulful, deep, touching, and timeless. Man, like wow, what else can I say that Marvin didn't already make you FEEL?

  • damn it feel like marvin is telling my life story. my mission in life is to make a change and i am willing to fight the men who are making slaves out of the poor people on earth. some people say i am stupid for doing this but i feel like ill go crazy if i dont do it. if im killed because of it i want the world to know i did the best i could and will the world understand what i was doing and continue to fight?

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • @008fox When Marvin sings the lines "I did the best I could,... Nobody understood." It literally wrenches me with pain. My father (now deceased) would say that alot when dealing with life's frustrations. Those lines always hit me hard on this song.

  • @008fox me too..every time..

  • I had to come back fro some healing. I can't stress how amazing thhe last 52 seconds of this song are...possibly my favorite minute in the history of music. And it's only right that it's provided by Marvin.

  • This might be my favourite Marvin, maybe. Its tough choosing favourites from great artists because all they're songs are great. either way I love this song

  • hes talking about his addiction, damn good song

  • 1st time heard this version! severly deep, in his thinking ability. He drastically changed his musical and vocal style, such as Stevie, even the Beatles got a little deep. Marvin was at his top and yes you can see that his pain, was evident..yet no one covered their pain and made it listenable, without the person getting depressed, like he did. Marry Blidge tried it, obviously following Marvin's style. Alot of her music, was from his. His pain, was for our strength.

  • One of the greatest songs EVER!!!!!!! WOW... This song is toooo deep!!!

  • From 1:32 on...goodness.

  • I wish youtube had repeat....

  • he had the most hottest musical chord changes and that harmony, actually him doing the backround himself!! he was the first to start doing this!

  • Did the man put his heart & pains in his music or what?!?! Wow! I truly feel blessed just listen to Marvin Gaye's music, Nothing like it second to none! R.I.P. Brotha!

  • coolest cat

  • I finally found this song! =D Its been so very long since I last heard this! Thank you for uploading this my friend. ;D

  • Good song. Love the bluesy feel and doo-wop accompaniment (as Marvin employed on many tracks). The song touches me deeply.

  • Never came out on vinyl. It was an early version of Flying High in the Friendly Skies but was never released until later on CD

  • Marvin was using his own personal shortcomings to extend the reach of his fellow man. This song has an air of righteousness embedded in the synergy of the piano, bass, and Marvin's angelic vocalizations. Makes you wanna be a better person and try and help those who stumble along the way. Thanks Marvin....

  • The only problem with this song is it is not long enough! Marvin at his best!

  • MAN!! I know!! thats what I have been saying since I first heard it.. thought it was just me

  • +1 Just my personal opion of course...The reason why never want the song to end is because its almost like you can feel marvin in the room in your soul when you hear the song..and when the song does end you realize...yes it was his father that killed him..but the demon he was fighting aggravated the murder of our beloved marvin. And all we have is his plea for peace.Rip always Rip

  • You're right about the length. When it finally goes off I'm going "nooooooo! Keep telling me about the people that don't understand!" That's when I immediately play it over again and again.

  • @E1985Man Yeah thats what I do ; ) Just listened to this again and it has made the hairs on my head are stand up. It does exactly what 'soul music' says on the tin.

We need a modern day Marvin Gaye to set us alight again.

  • @birdmanbenjibeat

Yeah it was the B-side version.

  • Marvin Gaye always came real deep with his . He made me think about how messed up the world is and how powerful love can be.

  • one question. can anyone tell me if this particular version ever came out on vinyl? I know it came out on CD. I have the other Flying High in the Frieddnly Skies on vinyl, but I need this one

if anyone can tell me that would be appreciated

  • Back in the day I had it on a "45". Think it was the "B" side of "Mercy, Mercy Me".

  • "I know I'm hooked my friend... to the boy who made slaves out of men."

this is probably my favourite Marvin Gaye song.

  • the lyrics to this.... he was clearly beggin for help....but i could be wrong.

  • O my goodness thank you for posting this. everybody who ever had it posted always had to remove it for some reason i listened to this song everyday and couldnt find it for a long time on here Thank you simply magnificent, i feel his pain and agony!

  • i love this song!

  • I love this song. The subject matter was covered earlier in this album but the music track just puts such sharp point to Marvin"s pain. Great track!

  • This song TRULY touches me..In my very personal and humble opinion this is his best song.

  • I agree. I was just about to express a similar opinion, but then I read yours.
