Im also interested of this stoma. Never actually heard anything of it, but it looks very bizarre. Anyway, it needs some bravery to show this here. Take care.
I had this surgery because of the same problem i wasn't reacting to the drugs that i was prescribed and my colon was very heavily diseased so i had the surgery to save my other organs from getting the same problem because it would just burn right though my colon and onto other one's so yes it does save your life. i am also having another surgery which they can do now is the J pouch in a few months where they connect the small intestine straight to the anus and you will live relatively normal.
Thanks for sharing. My Grandpa had a colosopy, which would be over 45 years ago. I bet he would be impressed about the improvements for Stoma patients.
to all you who have wrote stupid comments on this if you don't understand something go read up on it,I did oh by they way this it my dad and i am proud to call him that so unless you have something nice to say don't comment keep your opinion to yourself
@misshunter1984 but let's be honest, youtube commenters aren't exactly the pinnacle of intelligence. who cares what these guys say? its the internet, people mouth off simply because they know they can. your dads healthy and that's all that matters.
My Anus was removed at the same time I got the ileostoma operation. Since my large intestine was removed there was no need for an Anus. At the time I was told there was other types of procedures on the european continent but the mortality rate was very high and that my surgeon preferred to do the one he did no me.
Pleace let her know having the op is not the end of things. I went back to work afterwards and got married a few months later. I now have 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters. I have had some problems with the skin around my stoma but that can be sorted for me it was with ethere with Cavilon spray or Saltair adhesive solution. Check out my other video My Stoma with commentary it has more text.
@RuskiTer How rude, what kind of question was that to ask the guy? it's a medical procedure, it saved his life, I would not wish that upon anybody until you crawled out from under your stone, his life is worth an infinite amount of yours are you anencephalic or just damaged?
I thought I`d write a reply to those you have said I had a choice. I had my operation in 1980 and yes I did have a choice, 2 in fact, live with a Stoma and bag or Die without one.
By the way, I think you are very brave to put this video on Youtube. Not many people would do that. Don't get my comment wrong. It was just my opinion. I can be wrong, but I thought a stoma a 'choice'. If you don't want to go to the toilet every couple of hours then you take a stoma. But by reading the comments I think I am wrong. By the way, I have heard since couple of months that many CU patients have another option, called a pouch. Anybody more info about that?
you don't get discouraged or affected in any way by the ignorant comments left behind by those empty shells. It's sometimes hard to remember when there's just so many shallow people around, but there are open minded people out there too. I see that some have been here. Listen to them, stay positive=). Thank you for posting the video, it was very educational and very, very brave of you. Always remember - those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind. Dr. Seuss:). Wish you well. <3
My dad means a lot to me, more than the world put together. The doctor told him two days ago that they're 95% sure that he will have to go through this operation. I just want to be prepared, for both him and me by doing the research. I have to admit, I was expecting to be disgusted when I opened this link, and I was. The thing is, I realized that this is reality. Those that don't have it should be more supportive of those whom are less unfortunate. Sadly that's not always the case. I really hope
I think it's great you put this video up. Someone close to me has a similar situation and I am trying to do all the research I can. Thank you for aiding this. You just have to ignore all the narrow minded people who leave ridiculous comments, I am very grateful!
Good for you.I,v had an ostomy twice, once because of having some of my sigmoid colon removed and the other because of a leaking bowel and almost dying, along with many many complications, wound vacs hernia operations galore with the most recent using pig collagen.I've been opened up so many times my abdomen looks like I was attacked with a dull rusty axe.A bag does take some getting use to but you do get use to it.Stories I could tell good and bad but your a great person for posting this, thanks.
I think people who have ugly comments about this are ignorant and do not know that this could happen to ANYBODY! I have lots of respect for you for being able to post it. I wish the best for you and keep on being brave no matter what. Also i hope that all those negative comments won't affect you in any way. Those are people who are not humane and believe that nothing will ever be wrong with them, they should realize that they are human and are not perfect!

Firstly, jlh945 your ignorance and rudeness is appalling.
Secondly, ROBBIE2MS thanks for putting this video online, I work with a service user who is adjusting to life with a double stoma, he has mild learning disabilities and was having problems understanding his stoma. This video helped him understand what he was adapting to and that it isnt' just him with a stoma.
Thank you so much. My partner has just gone through surgery which has had this result. I had no idea what to expect. you've taken the horror out of this, for me very alarming scenario. I hope I can now help her deal with this in a more understanding and loving way. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Thank you again for your courage in posting this video.
I quite agree with jlh945 It really is disgusting, it took me quite some time to decide to take the video and put it on line but then I thought lots of other people have tried dieting and failed so I should`nt worry to much about showing a flabby belly on line.
@ROBBIE2MS Yeah I also kind of agree with jih945. I also have colitis Ulcerosa, but I don't any big problems with. I'm going 2 times a day to the toilet and got this disease since february 2008. But I would never put such a bag on my stomach. I rather go more often to the toilet. And Stoma isn't a choice between life or death, I think. I'm a very succesful, social, good looking male, and it would be disastrous to life with this thing. My opinion.
@bratwa I'm sorry, but what were you trying to achieve by telling him that? He already has a stoma, you don't have to rub it in just because you may have it better off. Also, it may not always be a choice between life and death, but for most cases the operation is recommended for that reason. Operations with stoma as an end result is not reduced to Ulcerative Colitis alone either, it is for a wide range of complications. Colon cancer for example, which my dad has. Please be more open minded.
@bratwa so you put your good looks above your health ? You may wish to use the toilet more, but what about people like myself whose bowels were so badly diseased it is literally a choice between life and death - and yes, that is what the surgeon told me. Having a stoma is no different from having a spot. It does not stop you do anything at all, and has given me probably a better quality of life than you have
I think you're very brave that you're sharing your part of life with us and educating us. There is no shame in this video I find you sir very strong and never be afraid of this, you're educating others into a reality in some people's lives so you are a strong will strong fighters and God bless you my friend!
Hey jh945, its obvious that you are not very old, nor are you very educated!
Some people do not have a choice, when the choice is life or death, the decision to live out weighs the cons of the stoma. People live every day with all kinds of medical conditions, try educating yourself and stop calling people who are different than you a freak!
