I go to the "hill" in the spirit in the deepest center of my soul where God(Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) dwells. Do you know that you are the temple of God and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you(1Cor 3:16). The center of the soul which is the spirit is not touched nor disturbed; there the King dwells(Sta. I first saw this movie in theaters, which somewhat gives away my age. "Do-re-mi" was the first English song my Chinese wife sang to me. These songs always cause her to stop what she's doing as she sings along with them, with a voice that rivals the professional soundtrack.
YOU KNOW i JUST LIKE THE STORY! Does anybody realize it took place during WW11. It's more about what these people faced during the war than anything other you might think. Think about it.
@kittyalex1986 Yes, I know about the German occupation of Austria. Seeing the conflict within Captain von Trapp as he deals with the most difficult decision he will ever make, and understanding it myself, brings tears to my eyes. Did you know the story of the von Trapp family is true? The movie makes it a musical, but it does tell their story.
One of my all time favorite musical movies since I was a child!!!!! Such beautiful music and scenery.........I used to wonder "why" people didn't just burst out into song in real life, like they do in this movie.........LOLOL. But MUSIC is the key to your soul and gives you something "special"..........
some lyrics or music if i may, fill ur heart with such happiness that you feel smitten...this is one of them. i hav always loved the movie n all its songs.
I was sitting is music class and we watched this movie all the way through. I walked out of the classroom mad because everyone was talking about how "gay" the movie was. I was furious. I guess some people cant appreciate a true work of art.
Aww... that's sad. The younger generation is not used anymore to sweet (even if a bit naive) movies. Now, it's all about violence and stuff.
Eventually, they might grow up. I used to think jazz music was lame and boring when I was young but now, I just love it. Same with classical music. TBH, it's hard to like those genres when you're young and/or poor coz TV and radio don't help (is there a free classical/jazz channel on TV ? of course not... You have the commercial music instead).
The original soundtrack was also issued in quad 4 channel in the 1970's on Quad LP (cd-4), quad 8 track and quad reel to reel. If you like it in Stereo, try listening to it in Quad wow,.the only thing that sounds better is the 70mm & 6 track Todd-AO film.
My friend and I love Sound of Music so much, particularly the Austrian maid Frau Schmidt, that we made a parody of the musical told from Frau's perspective. It's a comedy that we both wrote. If you're interested in seeing it yourself, youtube "Sound of Frau" and click on the version with the best quality! :D
It's been almost half the century, and we are still loving the movie and the songs. I believe it will still be loved by people as long as the earth stands.
@alphametro Dear alph., It has been half a century etc. . The thing that makes it so good is the story ! Nice songs without the story would be the same as Abba the musical. . The story of the Nazi invasion of Austria and elsewhere is of great contrast to the gaiety of the familial parts of the movie and the solemnitude of the religious abbey refuge. . Cheers. from, del-boy.
laurarox01, I did just that and now my boys are 29 and 24 and they know all the songs. My oldest won a contest because he knew Do ReMe ha It is great to pass it on to our future generations What a Wonderful Movie...saw it 7 times in the movie theater when I was a child....may we never lose this treasure~~
my favorite movie of all times. when i was growing up i saw "the sound of music" in the theatre at least 50 times or more. those were the days when a movie would be available for years. it helped me to survive my childhood and so did Julie Andrews. She was an inspiration back then and has continued to be throughout my life. i have always felt such love for her, her singing, her acting, her humanitarian efforts and her writing. I love all her movies, The Americanization of Emily was my first,
One of the most beautiful musicals of all time!!!! I grew up with this movie, and get chills no matter what song or music comes on. Julie Andrews will be, in my opinion, the greatest actress/singer ever!!
so amazingly beautiful voice one of the best voices ever julie andrews is my favorite child hood memory and im now 51 and listening to lady gaga sooooo different
IS IT JUST ME or does anyone else feel like the're on top of a fresh air mountain, about to take flight, when Julie Andrews first starts, "The hills are alive~" ???
@emoisnthatcool Yes! I wish my life were a musical so I could randomly break out into song beautifully with instruments accompanying me and nobody giving me weird looks anytime!!! Do you even know how much I would die for my life to be a musical?
Lol, I hate this movie. My mom used to torture me with it, she used to have these moments when i'd come home from school and she'd been watching and anytime we wanted something from her we had to sing a line from the movie, i chose this song because it was easier to remember and when she caught on she kept switching it up, this is one of her favorite movies, she is such a goof even to this day with my kids, she teaches them these songs and stuff.
im 15 too and i dont wanna be a bitch or whatever...im asking purely out of curiosity....what is it u see in that kinda music? its like...nothing music. its empty you know. it doesnt really have any meaning. it doesnt say anything to me about my life or love and it holds no meaning whatsoever for me....why do you listen to it? i honestly and sincerely wanna know....
@Smallville357 really? wow... If you can't find meaning or love in this kind of music in general or in the songs from this movie in particular, something is very wrong with your life... now, IF you're talking about metal, deathmetal, alternative... well, some alternative bands really talk about life and love in the way that they understand it... it's just a different point of view ;-)
@Smallville357 This music is a tribute to the most perfect species on Earth in the eyes of the highest powers -- the wild and wonderful Singer Dogs. Feel free to criticize, but you will suffer consequences, perhaps severe ones.
Classic, watched as a kid, I am shedding tears, will there ever be an all time classic like the sound of music, my kids love the movie and i bet there own kids in future will love this, it transcends time....
I've been a fan of this music for 45 years, but I've never bothered asking anyone a simple question about this song's lyrics. When Julie sings about a "lark learning to pray", what is she talking about? Is this some British slang or idiom that Americans don't understand? How does a bird "pray", and why?
How could anyone not like this music and the album. It touches the soul. It question's one's soul. It brings out every concievable and good emotion of of anyone's soul.
I grew up watching this movie at least 3x a day for almost 7 years since I was three. And I still like it now. Listening to this soundtracks leaves a lot of great childhood memories with my family.
If I ever have kids I am going to try my hardest to introduce them to these wholesome, beautiful Rogers and hammersteins musicals that I grew up loving!
My mum used to watch these movies when me and my brother were 2 or 3. I remember the songs, and random scenes such as Liesel and Rolf arguing in the square, the nuns singing, Maria sitting on a pine cone.. being allowed to join in with my mother watching a grown ups movie she obviously loved was a huge plus. I never forgot.
All the Rogers and Hammerstein musicals! Start us young, and we won't forget :)
@Lexluthor2109 ...I found your comment a little insulting. You don't have to justify for LOVING The Sound of Music. Just because someone is straight or gay it has nothing to do with the classic of The Sound of Music. It's not just gay men and women that love classical musicals like this.
I'm a 23 year old straight man and yet, i have to say...amazing stuff, A TIMELESS CLASSIC. At the end of the movie i found myself fighting not to cry...lol
After watching this movie, all I could think of was "I want to fall in love."
I was seven when I first watched it. And it taught me how sweet love could be. How music is beautiful! I will never forget this. I could still remember giggling when Maria and Captain V. kissed! Oh, I love this ♥
@karokot Don't even pray. Praying doesn't do anything. I'm an atheist and I saw how many nuns and people "prayed" for my 4 year old cousin who had cancer and he died just today. You're putting your thoughts towards the wrong thing. Never pray again. Stop wasting your time on religion.
I'm really sorry for your loss. I lost a 5 yr old niece but I found great comfort in knowing she was in Christ's arms and would never be sick or in pain again. And believing I will see her again makes me very happy. I will pray for you and your family that you will find a comfort during this terrible time.
@JesusDiedlol667 Too bad on the day of judgement you'll be bowing down and worshipping Christ and saying His name along with the other athiests who never believed...and it will be too late.
@thebordenbunch Give him a break. People turn away from God time to time because of hard circumstances. Don't say you haven't! He who cast the first stone has no sin. So, you never known if he'll turn to God sooner or later.
Not to be mean or anything... but you're being pretty preachy and insulting non religious people, just like this person "attacked" the notion of god and religious people (still, I feel sorry for his loss and understand his/her reasoning, I'm not a religious person either TBH). Both attitudes are rude and close minded and people should be free to find their own path in life without being judged like that.
Anyway, I love this movie's soundtrack. And I LOVE Julie Andrews.
You know, I'm thirteen right now, and although this movie didn't come out when I was born, I probably will still remember it. That's how powerful and memorable pieces of art like this can be. That's what makes a masterpiece a masterpiece.
I was making dinner in the kitchen, and Julies voice in the Overture kept playing through my head. Mind you, I had not heard this in over 40 years since Mom played the LP quite a number of times. So I sat over dinner listening to this once again.
How wonderful we can step back and listen again. Thanks to whom ever put this up!
How strange is it that after I watched and loved this when I was a kid and didn't realize that, at that time, the movie was approximately 25 years old! Shows how it could relate to everyone, no matter how old and in what generation they are.
I saw this movie yesterday and finished today. This is the most enchanting film I have seen in ages. Why cant people make more movies like this. The ratings would be so much better >>.This movie is ADORABLE I luv LUV LUUUUUV IIIT X3
This was my absolute favourite movie as a kid! I remember watching multiple times a day, singing the songs, acting it out... I even had the soundtrack. I am 15 now and my love for it hasn't diminished one bit. <3
I get chills when I hear the opening music. I immediately flash back to the images of the mountains of Austria and then Julie spinning on that hill. Such a classic.
This is a stunning piece of music and I'm so sorry that your nice video has been hit by a random deluge of sexual prejudice.

symmylynn 1 month ago
@symmylynn Actually, yeah he does. Read Leviticus 18:22 - 23:
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with woman kind: it is an abomination."
What that means is that "HOMOSEXUALITY is wrong"
"Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion."
That means having you-know-what with animals is wrong.
Don't trust human rights, gay rights, or anything like that. Trust the everlasting word of God.

@TheBenaiah Is that why it is considered a timeless classic, then? You just don't appreciate good music or stories.

I'm 15. I listen to metal, deathmetal, alternative, you name it.
But you know what? I love the sound of music. I learn music not by letters, but by do-re-mi.
And when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favourite things, and then I don't feel so bad.

@Zantoki i'm exactly the same, while I'm listening to my A Day to Remember, Brand New, Blink 182 etc, i'm absolutely in love with this!

im 15 too and i dont wanna be a bitch or whatever...im asking purely out of curiosity....what is it u see in that kinda music? its like...nothing music. its empty you know. it doesnt really have any meaning. it doesnt say anything to me about my life or love and it holds no meaning whatsoever for me....why do you listen to it? i honestly and sincerely wanna know....
Smallville357 5 months ago
@Smallville357 really? wow... If you can't find meaning or love in this kind of music in general or in the songs from this movie in particular, something is very wrong with your life... now, IF you're talking about metal, deathmetal, alternative... well, some alternative bands really talk about life and love in the way that they understand it... it's just a different point of view ;-)

@Smallville357 This music is a tribute to the most perfect species on Earth in the eyes of the highest powers -- the wild and wonderful Singer Dogs. Feel free to criticize, but you will suffer consequences, perhaps severe ones.

I've been a fan of this music for 45 years, but I've never bothered asking anyone a simple question about this song's lyrics. When Julie sings about a "lark learning to pray", what is she talking about? Is this some British slang or idiom that Americans don't understand? How does a bird "pray", and why?
BRUC2016 1 year ago
@BRUC2016 , "lark learning to pray" is only used as an idiomatic expression...

If I ever have kids I am going to try my hardest to introduce them to these wholesome, beautiful Rogers and hammersteins musicals that I grew up loving!
laurarox01 1 year ago 187
@laurarox01
It's easy :)

It's not just gay men and women that love classical musicals like this.
jpdennis2013 1 year ago

@JesusDiedlol667 What happened to you is tragic, but leave your own opinion of religion out of it.
missAUDACITY 6 months ago
@JesusDiedlol667 Too bad on the day of judgement you'll be bowing down and worshipping Christ and saying His name along with the other athiests who never believed...and it will be too late.
thebordenbunch 6 months ago
@thebordenbunch Give him a break. People turn away from God time to time because of hard circumstances. Don't say you haven't! He who cast the first stone has no sin. So, you never known if he'll turn to God sooner or later.
angelicbaby92 6 months ago
@thebordenbunch
